Lol at Judas and the Black Messiah, Da 5 Bloods, Ma Rainey, and One Night in Miami all getting shut out of best picture. Jesus Christ, HFPA. As if the Minari thing wasn't bad enough.

I mean, my thoughts can be summed up as "HFPA gonna HFPA" but...
1. Yay Palm Springs! 2. Why is Kate Hudson getting a nomination when Cristin Milioti is right there? 3. That Jared Leto nom...just lmao 4. Interesting that the HFPA considers Hamilton a movie (or maybe that's how Disney campaigned it idk) 5. Mank's not that good 6. WHERE THE FUCK IS I MAY DESTROY YOU?

The snub of I May Destroy You is a fucking travesty.

holy shit i knew something was missing. that is CRAZY. not only is the show amazing but it tackles so many pertinent sensitive topics in a unique and approachable way AND pushed the whole television medium forward. absolutely nuts it got snubbed.

The first ep was the first time in any piece of media I've seen that nailed my experience with realizing I'd been sexually assaulted. It wasn't this grand epiphany. It was a simple "oh, that happened, didn't it?"
That final shot of Arabella looking down at the camera is just...ugh. I know "the camera looking up at someone = that person has power" is like, the simplest metaphor in visual media, but god damn it made me cry.
IMDY is easily a top 5 show of all-time for me. It just means that much and I didn't even connect to all of it. Not even close.
There's a lot to criticize when it comes to those noms but my main Globes critique this is year is what is the point of having this silly awards show if they can't have a bunch of drunk famous people in a room together?

not sure how the globes are going to do it but the emmys livestream was a lot of fun. kimmel did great and it was cool seeing all the celebs little at home setups.

But the whole point of the Globes is to get celebrities in the same room drinking together. The actual awards are inconsequential jokes.
My aunt does the planning for a mid-sized entertainment industry award show (not something I'd heard of before she got involved) and she said last night they've gotten a record number of submissions, when they were wondering if they'd be getting hardly any at all. For whatever that's worth.
The Globes were pretty underwhelming imo. I understand they were working within certain constraints and limitations, but still. The tech problems on the very first award given of the night was pretty ironical.
I saw Nomadland won best Drama, and I think that the movie is almost perfect for awards. Great acting performances, great visuals, and choose your own adventure of what an academy voter wants to take out of it. Want to take out of it the issue being capitalism, you 100% can, but if you are an old white man voter that wants to see the movie as a story of the rugged individual and older people doing what they want, you can see the movie that way too. It's going to clean up at the Oscars.
1. i thought tina and amy's opening monologue was great. it seemed well rehearsed because despite the bicoastal transmission they didn't speak over each other or anything like started happening later in the show. and they really ripped into the HFPA, was very satisfying and funny.
2. loved maya kenan's bit but my love for the bit may be hard to separate from my love for maya and kenan lol. but i think objectively the confusion as to whether they were a couple or brother and sister was very funny, as was maya's three shoes.
3. overall i was less interested in winners this year because the nominations were so abominable. and i already got a lot of satisfaction out of the emmy wins last year.
4. i liked the acknowledgment from the HFPA that they needed more representation from non-whites (did anyone else notice the HFPA rep from germany was a dead ringer in looks and voice for Minna Häkkinen from Veep), and they had a lot of POC as presenters etc. some may roll their eyes at this as too little too late and i did a little, but at least they acknowledged it, we'll see if they make some changes moving forward. all that with the caveat that who gives a shit about the golden globes etc.
5. lots of technical problems later. it is what it is with what they were trying to pull off, but the emmys seem to do well with it six months ago i dunno?
6. i understand what they were trying to remanufacture celebrities interacting with each other, but the awkward little zoom break out sessions between celebs as they went to commercial didn't really work.
7. and i also see they tried to do the thing where they cut to a random celeb to get her/his reaction, but it appeared the only celeb they cut to was Don Cheadle.
8. genuinely enjoyed the Norman Lear tribute. i am too young for a lot of his stuff, although I have a passing familiarity with Archie Bunker, but I was genuinely surprised with the amount of pushing forward the guy did with TV. pretty cool. and he's 98 years old wow.
