Time for another day of Inforoo pretending to listen to classical music!
Do not front on how many of us were band camp and choir class kids. We aren't willing to burn classical yet for logistical reasons, but it will burn out in the top 10. Plus really this... Debussy.

some ambient music hits me in the feels so hard, more so than all but a few genres still left up there. maybe inforoo dot com needs to get more in tune with their emotions, huh?

Especially with all this talk of alternative going, since I think it was established a few rounds ago that emo falls under that umbrella.

Emo and scene could be lumped into anything you want from punk to alternative to buttrock to p-a shit.
Why the folk hate? Folk is more than just jingly jangly strumming and vocal harmonizing. It's the base for World and is interpreted differently in every culture (Irish Folk, Romanian Folk, etc.). There was a time in music history following the great depression where folk singers were carrying the banner for labor rights and got lumped in with McCarthy's Red Scare. They owned it because they picked the side of the working class. Pete Seeger was a big part of that as of course was Woodie Guthrie. Whereas the bulk of modern country until the last several years has been all God Bless the USA proto-MAGA shit, folk comes from the far left side of mid 20th Century Politics. Also Peter, Paul & Mary > Toby Keith

emo could also fall under punk. that's more the MCR emo than the sunny day real estate emo though.
