Teddy has already said there isn't a gotcha moment coming, so I don't think there's anyone out there I'd rank above Rage. Locking in Rage and NIN as 1-2 is the move.

Tool wouldn’t be a gotcha moment. If you look at a lot of their fans, they’re definitely butt rock.

I think most people tend to like Rage more than Tool though.

i don't think they'd be #1, but Pantera is also a possibility. IMO they are like the MC5 of buttrock, they created it before it was a thing. buttrock at it's core is metal/hard rock with all the fantasy and anything cerebral stripped out of it, and pantera basically pioneered that when they ditched the glam elements in favor of flannels and denim and phil started singing about how awesome he was.

Personally, I definitely prefer Deftones. I was going by what I think is going to happen. There’s a possibility Deftones isn’t even in it.

I think you could say that about all the 80’s thrash bands though. They borrowed anti-fashion elements of hardcore with better musicianship. Many of them toured nonstop - think Venom, Slayer, Metallica maybe Celtic Frost until the crossover years of mid-late 80’s when a lot of punk became metal and vice versa. That era thrash (Anthrax, Suicidal) was when Pantera got big and basically carried water for hard metal. People have problems with Phil, but they’d for sure deserve a spot in the top 7 or 8. Again they aren’t better than Black Sabbath, solo Ozzy, Soundgarden or Alice In Chains but depending on who all is voting and how much they know or lived that era would decide who goes where. It’s not going to be right anyway with only 5 spots ( 1, 3, 5, 6 and 10) left in the top 10. There’s bound to be misplacements depending on how he rolls shit out.
