The Age old Question
Does good music find you or Do you find the good in the music?
What is it about the music you like, sure you might like a wide range of things, but is it part of you that seeks the music our or do you just happen across good music and that why you like it. I don’t mean to get philosophical, but there are so many different types of music at this concert, sure there are some clashes, but the vibe seems to be one of just good music.
today at work i was talking about music and bonnaroo, trying to get a feel for my coworkers tastes in music, and found that nobody i worked with even cared about music as more than a background soundtrack while at work or in the car.
this completely blows my mind because i've always sought out music, but some people just don't care about it at all. i'll read books about teh dead, download shows, trade shows, learn to play songs, pretty much every minute of my day is revolving around music. doesn't make sense to me that some people listen to whats on the radio exclusively, maybe getting a cd every so often, but usually for the song they heard on the radio.
that doesn't really have anything to do with what you were talking about, but i really am confused about these people
*i like coconuts, you can break them open they smell like ladies lyin in the sun** *Hell I don't even know where I am** *for now I must sit here and ponder the yonder: The herbivores did well cause their food didn't never run** *We listen, if it feels good We shake** *You made a big impression for a girl of your size, Now I can't get by without you and your big brown eyes.**

Yeah its totally a question of what kind of music listener you are... Some people seek out good music, listening to alot and poking around for something that hooks them... Other people just overhear music in their everyday life and might pick out songs or bands that they like, but people who dont seek music out on their own have a VERY limited scope of whats out there, and might not even really know what kind of music they like....
It's kinda like the question - If you had to chose one or the other - would you rather be deaf or blind? I cannot imagine a life without music - music is there when you are happy, sad, angry - it is an important part of life - not just background

I tend to believe in the chicken coming first in this case. Like most of the posts thus far have implicated, or flat out stated, if somebody isn't carrying the desire, the music isn't going to move them, no matter what. Sometimes you can throw all the mixes in the world (trust me, I've tried) at folks who don't seem to have any taste or interest in music, hoping for some sort of epiphany, and get absolutely nowhere. I've come to accept that everybody's engine runs off something just a little bit different -- I feel no need to judge, but it doesn't mean I have to understand.

I like music.
I can listen to ALMOST anything, and enjoy it. My actual opinions on which music is better, which i like better and stuff like that is simply my opinion. Because of my love for music, I'm always listenign to music. Because i'm always listening to music, i need a LARGE selction of music to listen to. I listen to literally anything that has SOMETHING worth while in it, whether it be the cathiness of a corny pop song, the humor of a crappy rap song, or the actual talent of a rock band. While i find it hard to enjoy a few things (i.e. thrash metal) almost anything out there has some sort of quality to it, or else you would have never heard of it. Some people have a very specific taste in music, but what has drawn me to the jam band scene is the rather broad range of taste. There's such a huge variety in the sounds that come from the scene, including many that branch far off from the standard "jamband" i.e. Claypool, The Duo, and other such stuff. Music is great, and anyone who wants to limit themselves to a certain type of music is simply missing out.
I like all kinds of music, but growing up in the south I listened to a lot of Allman Bros and Skynyrd, so I think this predispositioned me for my later interest in the jam music and concerts. But, objectively speaking, it's probably more about the Headie person than the music. I think a killer live show should make any person interested in music, but not everyone thinks the same. Where I see bonnaroo as once-in-a-lifetime chance to witness some of the most eclectic music gathered together, others see only dirt, bugs, and hassle.

everything in life is about focus and attention.. if someone gives their focus and attention to any good music at any point of thier loves, its hard not to fall in love with music... but if you fail to give your full attention to a band or act then you certainly will be missing out on what others see is so great.
