Just got a press release about the kings of leon's new record, which will be released in early-April. The last paragraph piqued my interest:
Kings of Leon will be on tour immediately after the release of "Because Of The Times," including a spotlighted slot at Coachella as well as soon-to-be-announced other festivals.

Agree about menomena, pretty sweet album. Not even the best album of that week though, for that you'd have to listen to "the enemy chorus", by the earlies. Overall that was a very solid week of releases.
I am glad that people are digging Menomena. I have not picked up the new album yet, but it has gotten glowing reviews and it is good that you guys are digging it as well. I think that they should get be a band that gets more pub than they do, but hopefully it will start to come. Those guys are the nicest guys, got to hang out with them a little bit the last time they came into Atlanta. They used to send out pretty funny emails, but I have not gotten one in a while.
It really does seem like 2007 is going to be a great year for music. I have already been loving the Deerhoof and Of Montreal Albums, and once I get the full Arcade Fire, I am sure that will be another good one.

2007 is definatly looking solid. There was a ton of albums just from the release week of jan 23 that im enjoying, clinic, deerhoof, the earlies, fuyija & miyagi, ghost, the good the bad and the queen, menomena, of montreal, and moe. Looks pretty solid to me. And for kings of leon, i hope they are there this year. I saw their set in 05', and while it wasnt an amazing show, it was nice to just chill at and sing along to some songs. If they were there this year i'd definatly try and check them out again. Plus, you have to love the bands enthusiam for bonnaroo.
I remember seeing Kings of Leon in 05' and I had seen one too many jam bands, and was very appreciative to see a band play songs that had definite beginnings and ends and that lasted under 5 minutes.
I like a good jam as much as the next festival go'er, but it was a welcome break.

Yeah - I consider myself a jam band fan, but by the end of 'roo in '03, I remember my friends and I saying "too much jam!" We just needed a break like you said...
The Bonnaroos since then have been plently diverse, so I think it's hard too get too much of any type of music at Bonnaroo now. I think this year I might be saying "where's the jam?!?!"

this is what i am afraid of. i am a huge fan of jambands, and would be quite disappointed if there were more Indie and alternative bands at the best jamband festival in the U.S. I mean Fountains of Wayne??? Come on! If anyone can shed light on their appeal, that would be great, but that just does not seem lke a Bonnaroo band.

^^^I dug up these just for you:

Fountains of Wayne!!! They are some of the cleverest pop songwriters out there, and have been on my Bonnaroo wishlist for years. Finally, an artist I'm really stoked about!

Jiglet, without knowing that well what music you're into, I'd highly recommend checking out 2003's "Welcome Interstate Managers". Just like dudezer said, you can hear "Stacy's Mom" in the context of all the other types of songs they write. There is a consistent theme in the music of strong pop hooks and tightly composed songs coupled with quirky narratives, of which that song is just one example of many, surprisingly varied tunes. It's just a fantastic album.

Right. As many people know, Adam Schlesinger and Chris Collingwood (the group's principal songwiters) are pretty tight with James Iha and D'Arcy of Smashing Pumpkins, doing several projects together over the last decade or so. Also-- and I suppose this might take them down in some people's estimations-- Schlesinger was the composer of the Oscar-nominated theme song to the Tom Hanks film "That Thing You Do!". In my opinion, regardless of how you like that song, that is a very impressive part of his resume.

thanks. i guess its all relative when it comes to taste. i am being unfair i guess because i have never given them a chance. maybe ill check it out. Who Knows?
I hope they've learned to play since I saw them back in '03. They only came alive during 'Trani' which was bizarrely the very end of the set.
I liked the tunes off the last album, but the lyrics were kind of embarrassingly "I lost my virginity on our last tour" fodder. Now I'm hoping the boys are growing up a little more musically and lyrically.
I always kind of thought they might have the longest staying power of any of that 2000 boom of what I can only describe as throwback bands (Whites Stripes, Strokes, Hives, Vines, etc.).
^^^You beat me to this. The new song sounds pretty good. I keep checking everyday for the new album. I'm guessing it will be an effort in futility for a few more weeks.
Their new record is going to be great from what I've heard. I saw them last September at a special event show in Nashville and they played several new songs and they all sounded awesome. New album won't be out til April. I am definitely hoping for them at Bonnaroo this year.
I defintely see you point about the lyrics and needing to grow up... but I think both records rock and there is progression from one to the other....
but none of those bands will outlast the White Stripes. Jack White is a genius...
Speaking of The White Stripes, I'd love to see them at the Roo. They are at the top of my list of bands that I haven't seen in person. I'd settle for a Jack White side project also.

Don't get me wrong. Love the Stripes. Probably one of the 5 best acts I've ever seen live. But given his current dabblings, his marriage and subsequent kid and his musical growth, I just don't see him keeping the act on life support any further than the concept takes him. The last album was the first one where you really felt some of the weaknesses in the limitations they put on themselves start to show. So while I agree Jack White's pretty much here to stay, I'm not so sure the White Stripes are going to be around much longer.
