the metric I’m using is kinda weird. I would say expectations of the average vote versus reality. I feel like Trump have voters exactly what they were expecting when they voted for him.
by that metric Obama is probably a bigger failure than Biden.
I honestly don’t think many people expected much from Biden. He just wasn’t Trump. If you knew his record as a senator you knew he sucked.
I’m not actually arguing Obama was the worst but I think it’s fair to say many more people had their hopes up for something different with him.
Dehydrate them and then grind them into a powder. SupeЯfuЯЯyanimal is the king of pepper powders and salts and they are so good.
oh that sounds baller
. Yeah, it’s a great way to spice up your own food. I just use a cheap coffee grinder. I do recommend trying to get a majority of seeds out before you grind. They can sometimes give it a bitter taste.. depending on the pepper.
A dehydrator is a great investment anyway. Always fun to try and make jerky.
I’d recommend Thai dragons or gong boa if you like Asian dishes. That stuff is so good to cook with.
Jalapeño salt is super easy. You’ll need about 3 pounds to make a cup of spice. Then just mix it 50/50 with your preferred salt. I use pink Himalayan.

First of all, on material benefits that people can see… the neoliberal consensus that took root in the late 70s has slowly morphed the party into one incapable of taken needed actions in labor, health care, welfare, etc.
Where they do take action it’s watered down with confusing means testing. Their messaging is bad because their politics are increasingly bad. Their politics are increasingly bad because they are the elites and are bought and payed for by other elites. That is where their class alignment trumps helping expand and/or keep their base.
In short, Someone like Joe M is just a lightning rod. The party itself isn’t actually all that interested in rocking the boat so they will continue to flounder as this shitty empire slides towards collapse and fascist rule.
They are stuck without a clean slate in party leadership. The only way to expand their base is the fear of the GOP. But it’s impossible for them to keep their gains because they don’t actually do much of use when in power. When they do, say Obamacare, special interests are able to sabotage the bills. Because, again, they our bought and payed for.
Manchin has completely fucked over the democratic party unless we're lucky this November and I want to be very clear on that. He managed to single handedly cut out massive chunks of the spending bill.
My point is that we need his vote to get to 50, and we probably can't any better from a senator from West Virginia.
But I think that Dem leadership can't do anything about him. Kicking him out of the party would be ideal, but then Mitch would have official control of the senate again, and that's worse than what we have now.
So he's put the dems in a position where they can only pass very, very, very moderate bills. Which then leads people to think that Dems aren't doing enough. Switching another senate seat will make his vote irrelevant and Dems can pass bills that make it look like they actually give a shit and realistically flipping one more seat still won't be enough.
I think you need an actual history lesson on modern politics if you think Joe Manchin is even one of the top 20 biggest problems about them. He obviously sucks but the problem with the Dems is systemic and down to the core.
This conversation is pretty useless until you grasp this.
Ok, I'm sorry for that, but I don't want to hear anyone say that Democrats are failing at governing, or that they are failing us when they are consistently bringing things to a vote only to fail by a single vote or two.

Guys, you need to spruce this thread up a bit. No more logic and doomsday talk. Let’s talk about the good things the Dems will do if we just vote harder!
It's funny that the politics thread is about to go out because of how absolutely enraging the political discourse is but we actually found Mafia and other Inforooers talking about sex to be worse.
The main takeaway from people’s opinions on the politics thread is a lot of them don’t understand political theory at all.

not super perishable fruit and veg would be great. trying to maximize hydration in all possible ways lol. and we'll have the grill going (for veggies--fruit i imagine folks would love to just munch on)
Will see what Walmart has in stock. If anyone has specific requests let me know.
let’s pm and will split fruit. I’ll get the more pairs le stuff since I’ll have coolers.
of like actual food stuffs, we've got: potato hash, tofu scram, gumbo, guac & chips & hummus (but honestly multiple ppl could bring dips and chips bc thats something we'll go through a lot of), jams, coffee cake, chili....
not to be That Girl, but i think we need some more foods y'all haha.
what about cheap easy stuff, like apples & bananas? bagels/bread with PB & J? beans and veggies and tortillas for brekky tacos?
I was going to make kabobs but I’ve got too much other stuff going with bringing stuff for camp to deal with it properly.
I’ll figure something out tonight. Maybe a fruit sad or something like that?

Liberty belle is ringing out Across the sea And everyone sings along Though she's singing way out of key From the shores of Gallilie To the runways of Anglesea
You know we're digging to hell Right past your own well As the magpies fly from Tallahasee To the sky
Memory lane forgot her way After all this time And she never learned from her mistakes And all the crime That caused the gulf of misery That separated you from me
You know we're digging to hell Drowning in our oil wells As the seagulls fly from Abu Dhabi To the sky
The birds still sing their melodies Their songs of love and food and trees Oh my how they fly So little do they know yet their days are numbered so Alarms are ringing in the trees
You know you've been to hell Drowning in your oil wells As the ashes fly from New York City Past the grimy clouds above New Jersey Past the kids who like to smoke like chimneys To the sky

Spending so much of the last year in the same hotel, looking at the same parking lot, has reaffirmed my belief that most people are selfish and only I should have a driver’s license.
There is a wide road behind the hotel with room to park 6 tracker trailers in a row. Like so much space. And what do people do? They take up 3 spaces in the main lot with a box truck right by the door. They park sideways across 5 spaces with a truck and trailer. They’ll park a fucking Uhaul in the corner spot blocking your car in at their side. It’s every week.
This should be a film. Reminds me a bit of Big Fish.
it’s got Forrest Gump/Being There vibe to. Dudes just floating through life and into all sort of adventures. Being good a baseball is just like a thing he sometimes has to do for money.
Got a vet appointment for Thursday but may need to call tomorrow and see if I can fit in at some point.
My 13 year old pup who has had two large growths/lipomas/benign tumors or whatever has now seen one get so big that there's something going on with it. Don't know if she got a cut/scrape on it because of the location or if it's actually getting too big for the skin to hold in. We noticed some minor amounts of blood on some carpets after she would get up from laying down (the growth in question is like a softball size on her chest between her two front legs).
Hoping for some semi-positive news but bracing for the worst. Send me (and her) some positive thoughts if ya can.
Wife and I are doing scary movie month early since we're about to have a kid and October will probably be light on the spooks.
So far we've done...
28 Weeks Later (good in theory but all the characters are so dumb) The Dead Zone (typically like Cronenberg, but this one was kinda rough. Very drab.) Fire in the Sky (actually really compelling and the abduction scene is amazing, but could use like 10-15 more minutes of scares.) Caveat (strange british horror. Has some creepiness though) Gonjiam: Haunted Asylum (legitimately scary in the second half, really enjoyed.)
The abduction scene creeped me the fuck out when I was young.
I generally don't share my personal business here, but seeing as this place is essentially my save-haven and respite I know always exists, I'll share. I need to start taking my mental health way more seriously. So, in light of turning 30 ten days ago, inadvertently and subconsciously making a list of things I want to achieve for myself and fully acknowledging that I having a drinking and alcohol abuse problem, I have signed up for Open Path and contacted a therapist for the first time ever.
Not even looking for praise, I just needed to tell people who won't respond with the interpersonal baggage that naturally comes with knowing and loving another person.
I quit drinking right at 8 years ago. Shoot me a PM if you ever need to vent or whatever.
Everybody’s path is different but I found several tips in therapy that spoke to me and helped me along the way. One of those is being able to learn from others so you can see mistakes before you possible make them.
And always remember you aren’t perfect. Don’t let stumbling blocks discourage you and get you stuck in a pattern. Like Alex said, it’s a marathon not a sprint.
