Shitheads aside, Coachella is by far the most scrutinized festival in the US (and possibly the world). Who in their right mind would believe Coachella would try to go on while still in a pandemic with no vaccine widely available? We saw how much Sturgis got roasted. The media would have an absolute field day if Coachella happened with these numbers we have.
On this we agree - And no. The California based Coachella will not be the first back. Obviously.

What's been annoying about your posts these last several months is that it never seems like you're talking about ways to safely hold a large scale festival. It comes across like you're spitballing ways that Coachella can operate in compliance with current Covid restrictions and return as soon as possible. The latter doesn't really have anything to do with safety, it's just the appearance of safety. It's checking boxes.
If we're going to put business first and not really give a shit about safety, consider the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. Possibly the single biggest super spreader event we've had in the US, and it's generated tons of awful press. Does AEG/GV want a mountain of bad press if they go through with an April festival that gets linked to thousands of new cases? Why not just push to October? Nobody wants to be Smash Mouth (fearandparanoia excepted).
Except Sturgis didn’t end up being a “super-spreader” event
The South Dakota Department of Health has reported 124 cases linked to the Sturgis rally through contact tracing. A Washington Post survey of health departments found an additional 204 rally-linked cases in 20 states.
300 isn’t a lot? And that’s just attendees, not people they gave it to. Not sure Coachella wants to be in the position of explaining “no actually, only a few hundred people got sick at the festival, and frankly we can’t reliably estimate how many people *they* gave it to.” pwm112 Avatar pwm112 B.O. and Fudge Toes ** 4 hours ago Quote likePost Options Delicious Meatball Sub said: pwm112 said:Except Sturgis didn’t end up being a “super-spreader” event

461k people over 10 days in full “F covid” mode? No. 300 is not a lot.
Plus it’s not like these people would have been 100% isolated had they not been there. They would have been at work, shopping, etc. so it’s not 300. It’s 300 less what it would have been in the ordinary course of life
Also, CNN or Washington Post would have enjoyed nothing more to linking as many cases to Sturgis as possible and they can’t do it

And besides, even if you believe Sturgis is a myth made up by liberals to own Donald Trump, bad press is bad press and that’s exactly the type of shit Coachella doesn’t need. If the liberal news media outlets would’ve been able to pin mass death or destruction as a result of the Sturgis event they would have done it. The very pro Trump anti-woke crowd are perfect fodder for them. And yet you haven’t really heard a thing about the aftermath
Don’t really care about Coachella. Their lineups never appeal to me. I’m not exactly sure why a dissenting point of view that uses statistics and a decent amount of logic is not worth hearing. I assure you my Academic credentials suggest I am not dumb. Surprised Trump hasn’t named you head of the CDC yet
Waiting for the invite. In any event all I noted was that Sturgis ended up statistically being not nearly what it was pro ported to be. Festivals won’t be either

You don’t have a degree in epidemiology or a related discipline?
Negative. As a majority of the population does not. But I do read the internal revenue code and treasury regulations on the daily, generally not considered to be light reading. I confident in my ability to read data and make reasonable decisions. So far my career has affirmed that ability.

Kinda funny but sad to return to this thread a month later now that Georgia, Florida, etc are getting ravaged by covid. Sadly these idiots probably still think its no big deal.
We are all going to get this. Everyone know that right?

Yes it is. It’s called a vaccine. We are getting really close. Faster than in any time in the history of vaccines. Several are entering stage three trials now. Hundreds of thousands of people are volunteering to roll up their sleeves and be a test subject to see if it is safe and effective so the rest of us will be able to go on with our lives. And then we can go to concerts and protests and restaurants with no fear. We just have to be patient, and careful, and inventive with new ways to do things.
The mortality has been dropping massively as we do more testing. Staying inside for over a year because of a virus that has a slightly higher mortality rate is asinine
This
The more we learn the more it’s becoming quite evident that we way way way over estimated the potential effect of this especially amount the young healthy/non obese. But instead of reversing course we are perfectly content to ruin peoples lives and the economy so that the media can continue to proclaim they were right and make additional money off of people staying inside and watching the news and politicians can become dictators and save us all from ourselves
The mortality of this with respect to the older population is saddening however it is also affecting a group that the next thing that would have gone wrong with them would’ve been the last thing that gone wrong with them sadly. Be that the flu falling or any other major trauma
FYI. We have test groups. There were thousands of protesters in the streets of major cities. I’ve seen the footage. Gloves/masks/6 ft apart was somewhere between some and hell nah. People talking/shouting/moving/ getting their protest on. This was a full symptoms showing period ago. Where are the tens of thousands of cases in every city amongst the (presumably) healthy protesters? They don’t exist. You can’t tell me we can’t have concerts
Do you stay 'noided?
Nah. I’d say I’m the opposite of paranoid. It’s the news for 5 min and then on with the day. Been going about my day as good as anyone. If this happens I will be there. If not Fest19 is out best shot. If not that see me in Vegas and New Orleans
Just saying. The PA stats are like everywhere else. It’s not a problem for the young or healthy. And we are all going to get it at some point. And the hospitals are no where near overrun
100k deaths is a tragedy. But a shutdown economy is catastrophe. We are going to have more long term death and destruction from what has been done to the economy it’s just the media won’t cover that
Whose doing what now? I’m simply asking where is the outbreak among the protesters.
It's probably about to happen, I've had one friend get it already in Minneapolis
Ok. But Protestant started May 29 and symptoms show upon 3-7 days So there there should be mass outbreaks in major cities by now. Like tens of thousands or hundreds of thousands of the this thing is exponential people are correct. And NYS is at like 811 cases.

If somebody would’ve fortressed all of the nursing homes this “pandemic“ would’ve been statistically insignificant with respect to deaths. It’s the flu with a better publicist And no we should not have shut down our entire economy or changed everybody’s way of life for this.
The flu does not kill people this fast lol. You keep telling yourself that it’s the flu so you can pretend your actions don’t have consequences though

There is no question about that. But not because of this.
114,000 dead americans isn't bad to you? You know it's not over yet, right?
