My wifes a nurse and always works Thanksgiving. I spend the week helping the Salvation Army shelter cook and prepare and then spend Turkey Day working the kitchen getting the food out. It's nice to see how many families make a tradition of the family coming out to help serve food on Thanksgiving morning and then go home to eat themselves. Last year we served about 2000-2500 people.
I cooked for about 15 years before I graduated college so it's nice to be back in a kitchen helping out.

this year for thanksgiving, i'm doing sort of a duel turkey day. I have to work till 3pm, then i'm doing the traditional dinner with the family/newloveofmylife/kids (brothers and sisters). Then way later in the evening, after all of my friends have finished with their family holiday gatherings, we're going to have a second meal of thanks at the waffle house with all of our closest friends, followed by a party/fire back at one of our houses (to be determined).

going to Starved Rock State Park - eating a turkey buffet - partaking of much corn and going for a long hike in the crisp, clear fall air (with hubby and dog in tow)
we're going to biglou's parents' house. i wish i could go up north to see my parents and my nephew (whom i haven't seen in a few years) but biglou's class reunion is next saturday. who plans a class reunion on thanksgiving weekend???
Going to Dallas to have Thanksgiving with my brother and his in-laws, and then spending the rest of the time chilling with my hometown friends from high school. I usually stay at my roommates house, and we throw a 24 hour movie fest we call the Cold Turkey Movie Fest the weekend after Thanksgiving. This year we're showing The Holy Mountain, Scanners, Deep Red, They Live!, Duck You Sucker! and Graveyard of Honor...among others. It should be a good weekend.

I'll be on a plane Thanksgiving Day, Flying to Georgia for a friends wedding (seriously, who gets married the Saturday after Thanksgiving?) I'm not too happy about this. It's a lot of cash and a pain in the ass to travel for a wedding for two friends who live in Arizona. But the father of the bride insists on it being in Georgia b/c he doesn't want to travel. So now my buddy (who's family isn't exactly rich) is forced to travel so the wealthy southern family doesn't have to leave their little Southern bubble. Now the only family he'll have at his own wedding is his Mom, his sister and her daughter.
John: We don't even understand our own music Spider: It doesn't, does it matter whether we understand it? At least it'll give us . . . strength John: I know but maybe we could get into it more if we understood it

damn, that sounds like some B.S. on the Georgians part..
what a great day, I fried a turkey with my dad and our neighbor "Babe", watched football, saw a bunch of family and friends and then nibbled on some corn in my shower with the fan on and towels under the door..(first time I've done this is many many years) ahhh nostalgia.
Doing our Turkey and such today. Thanks Mothersky (and karma) for reminding me of younger days and traditions. It was a family tradition, for us kids who were so inclined, to take a walk shortly before the meal to catch up on how each was doing and have some pre-meal corn. It was always one of my favorite moments. (My parents knew about our corn and had no problem as long as we did it outside.)
I'm gonna re=live that today after the foods ready; walk in the woods and corn out and work up an appetite. Kind of restart a family tradition (even if it's by my self.)
