Every year my family and I (mom, dad, brother, grandma, grandpa) get together on Christas Eve to eat, play games, and exchange gifts. Every year I have to come up with a game and this year I can't think of anything.
I need help with putting together a game that won't cost hardly any money, will be easily understood by 85 year olds, and can be finished in about 20-30 minutes.

1. Name the seven dwarfs. 2. Name the eight reindeer. 3. My favorite - name 10 parts of the human anatomy that have three letters (tit and ass don't count)

Yeah, can these be preexisting games that are relatively cheap? If so, I highly, highly recommend The Great Dalmuti.
It's a game that uses a special deck of cards (I think retails around $11), people play their hands and try to be the first to get rid of all their cards. The fun twist is that the players themselves work in a class system, with the first person being The Great Dalmuti, second being Lesser Dalmuti, and all others being merchants except for the last two people, who are Lesser Peon and Great Peon. The game encourages you to play into these roles, doling out appropriate seating, food and drink, and treatment based on rank. Obviously, with a close group of people this can be very fun and humorous. Also, the game has no definite ending; you just play rounds and switch ranks until people are ready to quit. A single hand usually takes around 10 minutes, I'd say. Anyway my family and I love the game, and we play it at every major gathering or holiday. There's a special feeling you get when you can look over at your mother-in-law, as the Great Peon, and order her to get you a beer.

Someone turned a**hole into a legitimate game? I've wasted a good portion of my life playing this.

have everyone get into groups and have each team write their own christmas songs. then have each group sing. give a prize to the best song...a fruit cake, somethingy christmas-y, or those lottery tickets were a good idea...
and if you're a high tech hippy you could set up equipment and record everyone and then make a cd for your family!
John: We don't even understand our own music Spider: It doesn't, does it matter whether we understand it? At least it'll give us . . . strength John: I know but maybe we could get into it more if we understood it
Hmmmm....how about musical dirty santa? You randomly round up xx number of random objects (that can easily be hand held) from the house (one for each member of the family playing - minus the leader, presumably you of course!) Make one item something that is awful - a family joke of some sort that NO one likes...that gosh awful sea shell pix frame that Aunt Marge brought back for grandma from Miami or what not...you know what I'm talking about Make that the "Family Shame Object"...this is what the Loser of the game who will face shame and ridicule for the rest of the year will end up with. So everyone starts off with something and you start the music and the objects pass around just like musical chairs....then you randomly stop the music. Everyone has something and SOMEONE has the "Shame Object".....you count to "10" "20" whatever and everyone can swap items till you call stop...of course no one wants the "Shame Object"....except that you are going to randomly (or notsomuch) start taking away objects and eliminating peeps EXCEPT for the "Shame Object" (which will be the Ulitmate Loser) and the Winning Object....so to stay in the game they have to pick wisely....but they also may end up The Ultimate Loser.....
Just a thought....simple....$0 cost.....and easy to understand and play in under 30..... ;D
