;D okay, now that we've shared some of our disappointments of '07, let's discuss the best of '07. best stuff that happened to you, favorite cds, best show you went to, etc. etc.
i was fortunate to have a lot of bests in 07, despite it being somewhat of a rollercoaster year.
~getting accepted back into college and finally getting (re)started on my education/career
~making amends with my mom and getting to see my family that i've been mostly estranged from since the age of 16 (which is a large portion of my life, given that I just turned 23), and even being able to live with them peacefully (i never in a million years suspected we'd even be able to have a peaceful family gathering)
~having a year full of a variety of plentiful corn
~falling in love with my roommate, who doesn't want to change a thing about me and who my mom has already accepted like a son andfinally being comfortable with myself in a relationship ;D
~getting to go to bonnaroo after a 2 year hiatus and staying up all night satuday, trippin' at the FLIPS and then going on the ferris wheel in the middle of the night
~having a job that i don't hate, that allows me to be on inforoo all the time and occasionally corn at work, and that pays pretty decent (with two weeks vacation once i've worked here for a year!!!)
~getting a crapload of glass for my birthday/christmas (how'd they KNOW that's just what i wanted?!?!)
~searching for my friend molly all year long, then finally finding her just in time for new year's eve!!!!
I always try my best to get into an optimistic mood at the end/beginning of the year in the hopes that it will set things off on the right foot. Never underestimate the power of positive thinking.
(wow, i feel like such a guidance counselor right now. A really really cool guidance counselor)
Four weddings in one year - I usually go to about one every three years. - Played best man role for a good friend's on Memorial Day weekend. Was nervous as hell about giving the speech, but thankfully barely remember it. - A cousin had the obligatory triple-7s wedding - Got to bartend for another friend at my favorite wedding of the year. To wrap up the night, the band brought him up (he's a violinist) to jam on "Freebird" - The last wedding in October was for a girlfriend's family friend. Turned out the groom was a cop, and all that entails - grand march was "Bad Boys," he was handcuffed going for the garter, etc.
Favorite three (non-fest) shows of the year: Roger Waters, Rage Against the Machine/Queens of the Stone Age, free FLips show courtesy of Southern Comfort. Bonnaroo goes without saying.
Introduced my girlfriend to my family and vice versa, working out better than I thought. She's only the third I've introduced to my parents.
Spring break visit to Chicago, to see a friend who moved to NYC and I get to see about once a year. Played mini golf, trespassed in a cemetery to visit Emma Goldman's grave, and lost my karaoke virginity to "War Pigs."
Moved out on my own for the first time ever. I don't plan on dealing with roommates ever again. I am now a pet owner. My girlfriend moved her cat in with me, because he doesn't get along with her roommate's cat.
Finally declared my political science major and graduation is in sight. Secured a legislative internship for the spring, but with whom is still to be determined. Had what I think was a great interview for an internship with Sen. Feingold's office, but I won't know about that for another couple weeks.
The last highlight is yet to happen: Having the same girl to kiss at midnight on consecutive New Years.

Bests that I can think of right now...
-Staying out of trouble (with the exception of one minor speeding ticket... damn unmarked cars...) -Getting kicked out of my house (if anyone remembers that, it was a very eye-awakening experience for me, much needed at that) -Being accepted back at my house MUCH sooner than anticipated (hence why the previous ended up being a good thing, I suppose) -Bonnarooooooo (really doesn't need to be said, but why not )
2007 was by far our biggest year yet. Prior to this year, I was working on my solo album (punk/ska/reggae), then I felt a bit of a calling on the journalistic side again. I took some serious business risks, and they paid off in dividends. We hit some amazing festivals, made great connections, and have some big things in the works. Some of my personal highlights:
- Met and did exclusive half hour interviews with reggae royalty: Ziggy Marley and Aston "Family Man" Barrett (Bassist for Bob Marley and the Wailers, which is my favorite band of all time). It's not very often that you get to sit face to face and talk to legends and personal musical heroes. Those were times that I'll never forget. Amazing, amazing times.
- Were the only independent podcast to cover Bonnaroo and Vegoose, and one of 2 to cover Lollapalooza.
- Made great industry connections
- Had a great spontaneous moment with Bobby Weir while doing his interview. Jack Casady of Hot Tuna/Jefferson Airplane walked in during the interview and Bobby stood up and interviewed him with our mics in a great impromptu moment. All I could do was stand there with my jaw on the ground with a goofy grin on my face.
- Dancing onstage during Gregg Gillis'/Girl Talk's set at Bonnaroo. I've performed in a band in front of big crowds before, but this was on a totally different level. It was one of the most amazing musical experiences of my life because everyone was so in tuned to the entire scene. It was almost trance-like.
- Also did interviews with Neil Fallon (Clutch), Miles Doughty (Slightly Stoopid), Girl Talk (twice), Ghostland Observatory, Infected Mushroom, G. Love, The Decemberists, Ben Harper, and Mute Math
- Gained some serious focus this year which I've been looking to do for a long time
- Met lots of great people that I'd otherwise never had a chance to meet
- Gotten closer with a lot of my friends...
- Was the Best Man at my friend's wedding and gave a toast that made people smile and cry at the same time
However, I can't wait for 2008. I have a feeling that it's going to totally eclipse 2007! Best of luck to everyone in the upcoming year, and definitely would like to meet as many of you as possible at Bonnaroo 2008!
Saw a lot of awesome music - both at concerts and festivals (lolla, roo, and monolith).
Got my first facial with my gf at a spa weekend... sounds fruity, but it was fun!
I'm moving up in my company - i manage 4 people...so that's a good accomplishment.
i basically finished re-finishing my pool room - we still need hardwood floors, but it's not like i can put them in i should take pics - it's very green.

She got some nice stuff for Christmas, particularly considering her parents are picky about that. She's growing so freakin' fast, we're trying to cherish it as we can. And as for the #2s... she tries so hard to get us when the diaper is off!

- Quit the job at the law firm which I hated, and had 6 months of glorious unemployment - Finally found a job I LOVE - Decided (despite objections from my parents) NOT to go to law school in the fall, to stay an extra semester to get 2 degrees, and then attend graduate school in Spring of 09 to get my MPA - Went to LOTS of great shows....was turned on to electronica, and went to several great electronica shows - Bonnaroo of course - Met an amazing boy who cares about me for who I am, appreciates a lot of the things I do, and plans to stay with me for quite some time - Finally realized that I needed to be doing what makes ME happy, not what makes everyone else happy
