Over the past few years I owed money to the IRS as I ran my own consulting business and never made the estimated payments..
This year will be the first year I don't owe anything! So, I've heard that if you need to use certain forms you can't file electronically until Feb 11, which sucks, but oh well.
Anyway, my question.. Have you filed electronically before? What product did you use, and how quickly did you get your return?

I have used this site the past 2 years and received the money within 3 weeks each time - they direct deposit if you want them to. I usually file at the beginning of February and have pretty simple taxes though.
just a tidbit of info in case anyone is wondering, my birthday falls on Tax Day, April 15th.
Back to the topic at hand, I have also used Turbo Tax to do my filing as well for the last 3 years, and have had no problems with it. I do believe that you get your money a little bit faster, if in fact you have money to be gotten. Can't say how much faster though. Anyone else care to elaborate?

"I just got fragged by a non-working speak." 5 Roo's and counting
woozie, I have been filing elctronically now for 5 years and have never had an issue. It has always been a smooth process and our refunds always come pretty quickly.
I have always used TurboTax - for the past two years - I have used TurboTax online and been very very pleased - never had a problem - can always go back and retrieve any information I need or print any form I need.
I have always gotten my refund fairly quickly - within about 7-10 business days

i have filed electronically for the past several years. it's the only way to go... i don't know what company i use because i'm eligible for freefile, being a broke college student. so, i file for free, choose direct deposit, and got my return in about 2 weeks, i think. once you do it online and it has been received, there is a nice "where's my refund?" function on the IRS website that lets you know the status of your return, and when it is supposed to be deposited into your account

I know it's already been said, but I use H&R Block online. Works for me...but I free-file, because I'm a po' college student as well. The website is really easy to do and gets things done quickly! I switched from TurboTax (I did TurboTax in 06) because Turbotax wanted to charge me.
ok.... i have tax questions... someone please help me....
This year, I did a little bit of work as an independent contractor, so I know I have to file a 1099 form. I was informed of this when I started working, no problem...
Today in the mail I got a check from my employers that for $185. It looks just like any other check, but under description it says "1099$$" Now I thought this was a little weird. Are they trying to pay me money to pay my taxes?? Is this even legal...? I havn't gotten a 1099 form or any other infomation.
The only thing I can think of is that they give everyone money to pay their taxes and then you have to pay the company back. My boyfriend said he thought it was weird because they would be out thousands and thousands of dollars if they did this.
I am going to contact them on monday, but I'm just wondering if anyone has any idea what's going on in the meantime.
