I'll hop on the Yay MMJ train! I got six tickets for their Saturday night show in ATL in August. It'll be me, my girlfriend, my two best friends and their wives. And it will be a few days after one of the guy's birthdays. We're going to go to a brewery to celebrate then the show is in the Fox Theater. It's a cool, super old theater right and I really like seeing concerts there. Our tickets are right in the center of the theater about 20 rows back so we'll have a great view and great sound.
To balance out my GRRR posts, I have all this to look forward to so far this year:
March: Skiing in Utah, and my first time skiing Alta (!!) April: Attending my first festival with my folks: Jazzfest! Hopefully I can introduce them to Bonnaroo in the near future. May: Returning to Austin Psych Fest for a killer lineup! June: Week in Hawaii, followed by BONNAROO! July: Mike D friendgasm extravaganza in Nashville. August: MMJ at Red Rocks with Inforoosters!
It's been a pretty sucky couple of weeks - first with exams stress, and then dealing with both mono and an impacted wisdom tooth... but holy crap on a cracker, THIS IS HAPPENING! I cried please, please, please let me get what I want this time, and the concert gods heard me loud 'n' clear.
Now the only question is, how soon is... uhh, late May?

For the past probably 13 years I have never used anti-virus software on my computers. I've never needed to really. I know a thing or 2 about computers and the intertoobs and I've never had any issues. I don't DL and install random shit and I don't run any nifty plug-ins or install ANY tool bars, DL helpers or other highly vulnerable crap what so ever. I'm immune to click-bait which is where I think the vast majority of infections come from. I'm the kind of guy who doesn't use a mouse unless it's impossible to do otherwise.
But oh did I get got! Ransom-ware. On my hard drive is about 20 YEARS of work I've done on various creative endeavors. Musical compositions, sample sets, video compositions I've spent days if not weeks worth of hours poured into their making. One day last week I decided to play Dig-Dug on MAME (Multiple Arcade Machine Emulator) because I wanted to record the audio because I'm weird like that. The game wouldn't load. Weird because I'd played it just a few hours before (I've had this game in my collection for years so it's not like I recently DL'd it). I tried to load a few more games to record and no joy. I fire up Chrome to google some answers and

PWN3D I am!!! Well that sucks. I open the directory that houses all my games and open a txt file in there and sure as shit it's in Chinese now. I'm thinking I've lost my 80's arcade game collection and I have a browser hijacker, pain in the ass but not the end of the world...until I look around a little more. My whole fucking local app data folder - pwn3d. Good bye all ye plugins for all my apps I use. My Music Folder - PWN3D. Goodbye every last song I own. My Documents folder PWN3D. Good bye all of my labor of love projects that I've spent years working on, good bye all of the photo's I've taken, goodbye my sweet porn collection, good bye all the obscure out of print stuff (not porn) I'd spent time tracking down. All gone.
Or was it...? A couple of months ago I sprang for a 4TB external drive because I needed a place to keep all my shit. I'm a data hoarder. I don't like to delete anything and my C drive was so full I was starting to have a hard time running programs. The firs thing I did when I got that drive was to ctrl+c C:\ then ctrl+v E:\Bitch Tits. Creating and naming a back up folder on the new HD 'Bitch Tits' was pretty random but I decided that is where I'd back up all my data to automatically once every 2 days. The back up software that came with the drive automatically created a folder called 'backup' for this purpose. After the infection this older was encrypted also but Bitch Tits? Hell NO! That directory was left alone.
Tonight I tried running one of my digital audio workstations for the first time in a week. I loaded up a file I've spent the past month tinkering around with. No joy. The File is corrupted. I close the program and use the restore files option replacing all the files in that directory from the files I had stored on Bitch Tits and FUCK YOU SCRIPT KIDDIES! The file loaded right up just as I'd left it. BITCH TITS FOR THE WIN!
In the end I've only lost about 3 days worth of data and I am smarter for it. A decent AV company is now $56.95 richer because this experience freaked me right the fuck out. NOT GONE are my photos! NOT GONE is my porn! NOT GONE are all my digital creative endeavors! NOT GONE are the gigabytes of music I burned or acquired! FUCK YOU BiTCHEZ!
Oh man. This has been a wild ride. My sister had a c-section after induction failed and was released from the hospital within 24-48 hours (#stupidamericanhealthcareftw). She was back in the hospital in the ICU within 2 days because basically her kidneys shut down. Her mom (all my siblings are half siblings) flew up last week and will be there until tomorrow. Due to my dad's inability to communicate with her mom, getting updates was difficult but happened sporadically. My youngest brother flew up Tuesday and will be up there until Tuesday. There's a whole side story about me getting pissed at my dad for not flying up there that is affected by our history but that's a story for another day. Once my brother flew up, updates have been easier to come by. The reason this has stayed in the yay thread is because they finally figured out what was wrong with her last night (it's HUS). This is good news because they finally know what they are working against and, from what I read on the Mayo Clinic, it's something that is highly treatable with a very low rate of doing any permanent damage to her kidneys. She was also able to finally get up and move around yesterday which she wasn't able to do before, so hopefully, this whole thing will be fixed soon.

To contribute, my dad got thru his first round on chemo Thursday and is doing very well! The steroids are keeping fatigue and lack of hunger to a minimum. He's already shaved his hair down to a crew cut so there's very little up there to lose at the moment. Here's to being optimistic in the face of the beast!
