Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
On top of all that, tomorrow morning I'm going to hop on a plane to Denver to visit some of my best friends. They moved out there in September and this is the first time I'm going to visit them in their new home. We're camping this weekend then hitting My Morning Jacket at Red Rocks. Both of those things are bucket list items for me.
WHAAAT?!?!? I didn't know you were going to Red Rocks. MMJ both nights or just one? I'll be there both and I would love to meet you! (I won't be there until Friday am)
For months now, the mousepad on my laptop would act really weird whenever the computer was plugged in and charging, to the point where I couldn't use my laptop unless it was unplugged. I suspected a weird driver issue but could never fix it even after installing a new one multiple times. I'd grown so sick of this that I was looking around for a new laptop only last week.
Fast forward to this week, the power supply shits the bed, so I order a new one. I plug the new power supply into the laptop.... and the mouse doesn't do anything. It works perfectly. This whole time it's been a faulty power supply, and I never even thought that it could be the culprit.
had a phone interview this morning and I nailed it. They are setting up a face-to-face with the director of neurosurgery at Mayo clinic sometime after I get back from bonnaroo. They are putting together a team for a new project involving brain cancer and tumor growth and need an engineer for hardware/software stuff and they think I could be a good fit. This opportunity literally happened by chance...I randomly talked to a guy at the Intel Science Fair I was judging, who gave my name to a person he knows who works at Mayo who knew they might be looking for someone. There is nothing concrete about this, but I'm super stoked to be considered, and I haven't even graduated yet.

this is great man, I'm happy for you. it's funny how we say things like you said above, that it was totally random and happened by chance, but clearly this opportunity is the result of your actions. I mean, what were you doing judging at the Intel Science Fair? sounds like it's something you didn't have to do but you put yourself out there and did it, and in doing so talked to people and apparently came across as competent and friendly, so much so that the random guy you talked to remembered you and recommended you. so congrats!
anyway back to me, the past few weeks have been particularly stressful at work because of the number of projects I'm juggling. it's not management's fault, they scheduled well, but sometimes projects don't wrap up when we think they will, and sometimes that is totally out of our control, which is what happened to me.
BUT, I sent one big project for review today, yay! As for the other project I was stressing on which is "due" a couple days after bonnaroo (really it's an artificial client deadline), one of my managers just came around and said he setup a conference call with the client. in his words he is going to tell them "we know you have this deadline, but come on man, we gotta live our lives".
obviously he won't say those words to the client but it made me laugh and made me feel better. everyone at work knows I'm a live music junkie and while they may not share the same passion, they understand it's important to me and help me to prioritize it.
I've worked a handful of shitty jobs with shitty management, and it makes me all the more grateful for my current job and current management. I'm a lucky dude.
I've had some great things transpire in my legal situation, and have basically been given another chance. No jail, and no worries about potentially losing my job. Sobriety has been good to me so far! There is still work to be done before I'm in a solid place in my recovery, but I am determined and am on the right track! I have a great support network of family and friends in my corner. So fortunate.

With all my political activities, some quality time with what I call "my rock & roll spirit animal" six weeks before the election is perfect timing going into the home stretch.
Plus, my county party has had five meetings this year and my vice chair self has served as Acting (insert other officer title here) at three of them, so I don't feel bad it's on meeting night. It's my turn!
Tonight was the first dinner out Becky & I have had together since the donation in March. It was a great feeling, made even better because she looks & feels 10+ yrs younger. Everyone who sees her can't believe the change. It's all that 20 year old kidney.
I officially booked mine & Cap'n Mac 's tickets to LA!! I can't wait for him to meet my brothers and the rest of my family. Fingers crossed my mom can make the trip too!!
I'm trying to rack my brain around things to do in LA for a day or two, and I can't think of anything! Lol. I know I want to go to this flea market that we always go to but I can't remember the name Olvera St. Then I want to find my great-grandfather's star, watch the sunset from Santa Monica pier, maybe make a trip to Griffith Observatory if we can (I've never been), and I can't think of anything else. But I'm real excited! I haven't been back since 2014
Any other suggestions for things to do that aren't totally tourist hell?

California Donuts are fucking tasty. Angel City Brewing is in the middle of this arts district that I totally want to explore if I ever get back there. We were only there one night so we didn't have much of a chance to do much.
Edit: I would guess the flea market you are trying to remember is the Alameda Swap Meet. It was on our list, but we didn't have time.

Donuts and craft beers. Thank you for suggesting something for each of us.

Griffith Park and Observatory are fun, especially if it's a clear enough day to see the whole city. Walking around the shops in Santa Monica is always fun with all the street performers and stuff. Amoeba is always worth a couple hours too. If you have an evening free go to a show at Groundlings, they are one of the SNL breeding grounds with Second City in Chicago. They have nightly skit and improv shows, the best one is Thursday night Cooking with GAS, which is all improv and mixes their current cast with alumni. There will almost always be a few people you know from TV and movies and sometimes will be some really big comedy names. Either way you will laugh until you can't breath.

Second on Amoeba especially considering who you're going with. It's considered one of the best record stores in the country by basically every list I've ever seen.

When are you going?
We'll be in the area Aug 22- Aug 29. Some of that time will be spent in the desert tho. Idk when exactly we're going to go out to Indio, but unless my mom flies to LA then it'd be easier for us to go there rather than everyone come out to LA. (My mom is in Columbus still, but refuses to go out to the desert bc of family drama. Lol)

Ahhhh! Thank you! I've never done true sight-seeing before so these places aren't the types of things that come to mind for me. Lol. And as for FYF, it's TBD... depends on if my mom comes into town or not and (as always ) finances...

I was just in LA in April and went to Griffith Observatory (amazing views, I suggest going at night) and the La Brea Tar Pits, which was way more interesting than I thought it would be. Regarding La Brea, go during a week day and take the time to talk to the archaeologists who are there now working the active dig. They are so knowledgeable and really like talking about their work. I would have LOVED to go to The Broad, but we didn't plan well and didn't realize you would have to request advanced tickets or wait 60-90 minutes for stand-by.
Yesterday on facebook I saw one of my old camp friends, who is now a pastor in Charlotte, posted about a young 18yo needing a room to rent or someone to take him in so he can finish high school. That he needed stable housing & just someone to care. It broke my heart. So I shared it with my friends. It was the least I could do. And as of this morning it looks like one of my high school friends who now lives in Charlotte will be taking him in. I am overjoyed. Facebook isn't so bad at times.
I passed my boards!!!! I have to thank so many here that have listened to me whine and cry at all hours of the night, have talked me off the ledge more than once, and who encouraged me to just keep going. Thank you my inforoo family!!! NURSE GRETCHEN IN THE HOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUSE!!!!!!
