i thought it was entertaining, the monster was cool, and i think it tried(and accomplished) an idea of bringing ALOT of people's everyday fears to the screen. Spiders, City attacks, heights, the dark, claustrophobia, losing a loved one... etc, etc
but the lack of storyline and background information was a little bothersome. Nice gimmick movie if nothing else.

I agree w/ Thejewclawstrikesback. It had zero character development, it had zero story line, and it had at least one thing every person is scared of. Save you're money or get it from netflix in a month.

But honestly when you walk in a movie like cloverfield are you looking for character development. It's a monster movie. Evil Dead ... great movie. but Character development come on. In fact took three movies to develop the lead in that one. And story line... young people fight for survival as monster attacks city. Did you think it was gonna have a more complex story line in an hour and twenty six minutes? And maybe you want more out of your movies (hell who doesn't at $8.00 a pop) and that's cool. But take it for what it is...a different look at a monster flick.
BTW - did anyone who saw the film notice anything about the last recorded scene? I didn't catch it but my friends did and when they told me about I thought it was a nice touch. (Sorry about the wording of this last part but I'm trying not to spoil it for those who haven't seen it.)

I'm not sure I know what you're talking about, so I guess I didn't really notice anything special about the last scene. I noticed it ended the way that night began, with a recorded confessional, but in a completely different context. I thought that was kinda cool.

I really enjoyed it. It was for the most part, a heart-pounding edge of your seat, movie which is what I expected.
You kind of have to overlook the lack of character development, and the lack of knowing where the moster came from or any explanation of it. To me it was still worth the money.
