WooHoo! A friend of mine needed some $$$$ so he just sold me his LP collection for $200. There are 200-300 LP's, all from the 70's and most VERY rare and uncommon bands, mostly progressive rock. All are in near mint condition.
you lucky rooster! Congrats on your score. You must get a USB turntable. My husband likes his. He is working on the soft ware to take out the pops and crackles.
Thanks for the USB turntable update. I'm seriously considering it. The friend who sold me the LP's made me promise to record a selected list of them to CD one day. We agreed that "one day" might mean deep into our AARP years.

I would not say thatI am a collector - we have two boxes of vinyl and no way to listen to any of it
um hello!!! send them to me!!! ;D
ummm - NOOOOO! LOL - one box is stuff my brother gave me when he left home at 18 (I was 9) - so that was 1978 - Alice Cooper, Kiss, The Guess Who, Bread
another box is a box that Boz picked up at a garage sale - The Clash and others
oh how i love vinyl. my college's radio station was forced to get rid of all the records and as music director i had access to the entire collection. i found some real gems in there Slint, Flaming Lips, Smiths, Sonic Youth...

the half priced books here in austin are a GREAT place to find good vinyl, outside of going to an actual record store. i also found a lot of my good vinyl on ebay from dj's who were selling off their collections
I lucked out again. I currently store my LP's on a rickety wooden shelf in a closet. My new LP's are in cardboard boxes.
A local furniture store is going out of business so I stopped by to see if maybe they had a cabinet which would hold all my collection. I stumble upon an piece left over from entertainment center/wall case that is basically a extra deep bookshelf. It is solid walnut and measures approx, 5'6" tall x 2' wide x 20" deep. The wall case costs $2500 total and this remaining piece was listed at $350. I offered them what I had in my pocket ($108) and they accepted.
It even has a small drawer in the bottom which holds my turntable perfectly.
So I now have a gorgeous solid walnut LP storage case which will hold 800-1000 LP's. It must be my lucky week!

My roommates and fiance laugh at me. I worked in a record store part time for most of my adult life (ie I need the discount and first dibs on incomming used stuff.) Please don't get me started on Lps. We have a seperate room for those. And congrats Troo. It's always nice to keep things nice and tidy. You seem to have lucked out over the past few weeks.

I did the ol' inherit and raid thing. My uncle gave me all his records which include maybe 15+ grateful dead, including two copies of Europe '72. My dad let his just collect dust so I took it upon myself to "clean" them, all the way to my apartment. I haven't bought too many in recent years, except for one of my all time favorites for listening, the Friday Night Lights soundtrack.

I've been buying vinyl for years. I have somewhere around 1500 albums. I would much rather listen to music on vinyl than mp3 or cd.
i agree completely....karma!!! ;D
While the improvement in sound quality may or not be perceptable to someone who, like most my age, can't hear the new "stealth" ring tones, the compromised convenience is just not worth it to me. If I had to play a record every time I wanted to hear music, I would do very little listening.

haha yeah i don't own any records or a record player. i'm a slave to all things new age. i think that was obvious with my great score on that marketing test haha
