Just getting back into it after a long absence, trying to collect all of Isis vinyl, been trying for a long time, finally got my hands on the Sawblade vinyl....I'm literally geeking over it.
Just wondering if anyone else here collects records, I have been for years, love it. Nothing beats throwing 'King of the Delta Blues' on the table and zoning out to me....

I've been getting into it ever since Christmas 2 years ago when my brother got me a turntable... I have 50ish now I suppose... Hopefully my collection will continue grow throughout the years. It's definitely more satisfying to throw down a record than it is to just click on itunes
The sound quality is MUCH better on vinyl the the highly compressed mp3's. I love the depth and richness.
It was REALLy nice in the early 90's when CD's were the rage and everyone was dumping their vinyl. You could get LP's for practically nothing. I got dozens for under a buck each, the library had donations they sold for a dime and a couple friend just gave me there collections.
If my house hadn't been robbed in the 80's and all my vinyl stolen, I'd probably have near 1000 by now.

I just got a new entertainment center and for the first time in years have room to hook up my turntable. I literally just hooked it up yesterday and I'm looking forward to finally breaking out some of my records I've been lugging around the country for ages.
i've got about 500...new and old. the really obscure stuff is what catches my eye whenever i go digging. i was really getting into record collecting when i was still living in the U.S. but for the past two years i've been living in panama where there is a total of 0 record stores. its really sad.
I don't have anything that I could call a "collection" but I've got a few.
There's my Radiohead In Rainbows discbox. Also, one day at the Salvation Army I found U2's [/i]The Joshua Tree[/i], Elton John's [/i]Don't Shoot Me I'm Only The Piano Player[/i] and, most importantly, Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon all for one dollar each.
I started collecting when I was in college. I've got a bit over 200 now. Most are from thrift stores, but every summer when I go visit my family in New Jersey, I make a pigrimage here: www.prex.com/

I collect 7'' from old punk bands mostly (ie Black Flag, Misfits, Necros, Minutemen) but also have some rarer Glam stuff, I'm big into Ziggy-era Bowie and T-rex's early $h1t especially the Tyronosaurus Rex days. Anyways YEAH! I'd kill for a really great new record player> I have the massive speakers just ned the cash for a good system.
i've got 40-50 records, not including a bunch of 7". The Decemberists and David Vandervelde are my latest new finds...
good times.
Grimey's in nashville is one of my favorite places to check out for vinyl [plus their instores are awesome] and if you come thru murfreesboro to get to the roo and have some time, check out Grand Palace, on the square. It's this really awesome record store, new and old. Plus they have a label and release their own 7"s and records, too.

Got a few hundred 12"s and a handfull of 45s. A few rare gems, including a signed XTC Apples box set and a mono Mothers of Invention Freak Out! I still buy more vinyl than CDs. Too bad I don't have a working amp for any of my 2 record players. It's on the list.
John: We don't even understand our own music Spider: It doesn't, does it matter whether we understand it? At least it'll give us . . . strength John: I know but maybe we could get into it more if we understood it

i started collecting sometime in 05 i believe. i brought my parent's old turntable/dual cassette deck up to my apartment in college, along with whatever they had in their collection. i have 8 pink floyd, 6 jimi hendrix, a couple doors albums, 3 led zepp, eric clapton, muddy waters, moody blues, johnny cash, willie nelson...and lots more.
i don't have nearly the collection that some of the others here have posted about, but i'm pretty proud of what i have. i've recently started to try collecting albums of more recent music such as wilco, cat powers...things of that nature. its just so much more expensive!

Still have several hundred LPs from the days before CDs. My son pestered me endlessly to let him raid my collection for his DJing gigs, but I held my ground. Now if only I hadn't given all those other albums to my little sister 'cause I'd "out-grown" them...
I do still have the very first album I ever owned - Beatles "A Hards Days Night"
I've been collecting for about 5 years now. I mostly have newer records, but I have found some old gems in thrift stores and flea markets. Like a never opened The Cars Greatest Hits.
I have collected for a while and i find flea markets and yard sales the place to find gems...first pressing zeppelins...beatles....clash....all kinds of treasures...$9 is the most i have paid for a live T. rex album from japan. I love the hunt
I'm not an avid collector, but I do browse the thrift stores. I found the Beatles white album at the Goodwill once. I ordered a record on ebay once and it was a disaster. I sent it back. I've gotten records at thrift stores for a quarter in better shape than this one was. My fiance got Wilco's Sky Blue Sky on vinyl for his birthday. So we have a small collection. He's more the audiophile than I am, but it is nice to fire up the tube amplifier and put on a warm record to relax to. Anyone can appreciate that.

yes, the hunt is the best part. there is nothing like flipping through trash for 30 minutes, and out pops a gem! we are up to 50 or 60 i guess... one day, i want to wallpaper a room with them

Right now i'm trying to get Pink Floyd - Animals for a good price
i have atom heart mother, relics, dark side, wish you were here, the wall, animals, meddle, and a nice pair(which includes piper at the gates and saucerful of secrets)
animals is my second favorite after wish you were here. just search ebay. i found most of my floyd and jimi there
I'm officially geeking now, just locked in my Isis Shades of the Swarm box set. For anyone that cares, Conspiracy Records sold out in a few hours of the 250 boxes they had, Robotic Empire hasn't released theirs yet.
I just started collecting, and I plan on collecting sparingly and very selectively. My first three: Stars of the Lid- Stars of the Lid And Their Refinement of the Decline Isaac Hayes- Hot Buttered Soul Serena Maneesh- Serena Maneesh
WooHoo! A friend of mine needed some $$$$ so he just sold me his LP collection for $200. There are 200-300 LP's, all from the 70's and most VERY rare and uncommon bands, mostly progressive rock. All are in near mint condition.
I gotta get a new belt for my turntable. And probably a new USB turntable as well.

damn! congrats! i wish i could find someone willing to give up their vinyl. unfortunately, in a musically cultured city like austin, there aren't many people who would sell you that many for so cheap...they know what they could get for them
