So I am getting married Haloween night in Vegas. I swear to all that is holy,it WAS NOT my idea. But we are still trying to figure out where to go on the honeymoon.

I've been reading great things about some of the scuba and villages off the coast of Honduras. I'm planning on going next year. Much cheaper than Cozumel.
Honeymoons are very personal. What kind of place do you both like?
We went to Maine, camped on the beach and went to visit every lighthouse in the State. It was great if you like "roughing it" and eating lobster every day. We're going back to the same beautiful campsite for our 16th anniversary this summer.

Have you ever been to Vegas? If not, then you might be pleasantly surprised. My wife and I were married there back in '96. We initially planned it as a bit of a goof... it was such a tremendously tacky, hack idea, we couldn't resist. We also figured it'd give us a good excuse for a nice small ceremony. We planned for only 4 days, thinking that we'd be bored with anything longer.
Needless to say, we fell in love with Vegas. We went back every year up until our daughter was born. We were in Vegas on 9/11, and got to see first hand how all of America united in sympathy for what happened in New York. Had we been in NJ at the time, I don't think I would've had the same perspective.
If you've been there recently and still aren't impressed, then I'd second Meg's suggestion for New Orleans. The French Quarter alone is beautiful, romantic, and energetic (at night). You could spend a week or two easily shopping (and eating) your way around town.
Yeah thats where I am trying to sell her on is Cozumel. I have never been but I keep hearing how beautiful it is. What did you like about it?
I loved:
the people there are extrememly happy to have tourists there - it was a big change from Jamaica where virtually everyone we encountered was rude to us
there is a small island off the actual island of Cozumel called Paradise Island - it was beautiful
I believe you can catch a ferry boat over to the mainland of Mexico and check out the Mayan and Aztec ruins
We were only there for one day (cruise ship) but we loved it enough that instead of taking another cruise - we will fly straight to Cozumel and spend a week there

All of the Riviera Maya is great. I stayed near Playa del Carmen and went snorkeling of the of Cozumel. There is a ferry that runs back and forth regularly. From everything I read Cozumel is more low key and has beautiful beaches.
Playa is much less touristy than Cancun is and had a lot of great shops and places to hang out.
Also definitely check out the eco parks like Xel-ha if you decide to go to that area.
One thing to consider after most weddings - you will be TIRED! Mentally, physically...
We went to Costa Rica. I was initially upset because CR is such a cool place and my hubby booked us at an all-inclusive and I know with those places you don't venture out and see the sights as much.
However, it was awesome because I know a teensy bit of Spanish, the locals knew some English and weren't mean when I destroyed their language, so we stillw ere able to see the sites, but we also have a safe home base where we could drink to our heart's content, take 4-hour naps in A/C and get room service all day long. We also stayed at a resort that was probably 90% adults and of those 70% honeymooners so we met some really cool peeps. The beach was right there, the pool was huge, the drinks were strong, the villas were romantic, the tub was big enough for two and I think I slept more that week than I had the six months prior combined.

if i was planning a honeymoon right now, i'd go for costa rica or italy...i've never been to either one, but those are two places that i'm DYING to go.
this probably isn't honeymoon material, but one thing i've always wanted to do is hire a sailboat and sail around the caribbean. i read something about that in the magazine budget living a couple of years back, and when i have a little bit of $$ i'm totally doing it!! you hire a skipper and they're usually really cool...they show you all the awesome places only the locals know about. i think there are even some really exclusive resorts that you can take advantage of for free if you sail in. and it's awesome because if you get a group of friends (about 6 people) you can get by for about $600 each, including food, airfare, etc. i wish they had the article online so i could link to it for you guys....but it was one of the coolest looking trips i've ever seen!

I've been to Costa Rica, and it's absolutely beautiful! And I know you can go on a tour for pretty inexpensive.. I'm not too sure about the figures, but you can scope the web and find a deal that suits your needs.
I want to go to Fiji on my honeymoon, because it's just a thing my boyfriend and I have always talked about lol.
oh man.. fiji. I get chills just thinking about it! I can't wait to get married haha
I would recommend the sailing charter -- you can hire as much help as you want or need (captain, cook, etc.). We chartered in the BVIs and didn't have need for crew since we sail, but it was a very relaxing vacation.
I went to French Polynesia for my first honeymoon. It was a magnificent place, but the travel time was brutal. I'd recommend not flying longer than five or six hours because you will be tired after the wedding.
hey cupcake, if your serious about PR, I have an uncle that owns a small resort there. It's on the opposite side of the island from San Juan. Not quite as busy but plenty of nigh life and things to do. (The picture I just posted in my mug if from there)
ive been on A LOT of cruises (like 8) so if you need cruise advice u can ask me. my favorite is princess.
jewclaw youve been married 11 years?!?!?!?
i've heard great things about princess... but Royal Caribbean has been my fav so far... they all take you to the same ports of call... it's mostly luxury vs. affordability... i think Royal Caribbean has a decent mix of both...

hmm.. when i was doing alot of cruising it was with family/family friends..and we hated royal carrib. i think it was just my age and alot of factors. and you are right. princess does have better food tho ;D and it is a lurxury vs. affordability thing. and RC is very nice ;D

i would loooooove to go someday but i cant see it happening anytime soon. maybe one day if the bf ever actually proposes
Royal Caribbean isn't as young of a crowd as say, Carnival. dcbee and I went on a cruise to the Bahamas on RC last January and there were def. plenty of people our age, but more so people in their 40s and 50s. Not a ton of children.
The food was good, the excursions were fun, we had a good time. Our friends are going on a cruise for their honeymoon - great way to see lots of places but have minimal stress in regard to planning. Just know your room is teensy and liquor is not included.

I'm going in June (right before Roo) do you have any tips or ideas of places to go?
We are staying in Luquillo on the NE part of the island and have the typical tourist stuff listed to do (the rainforest, Bio bay, Old San Juan, the Bacardi factory!! etc.). Any tips from someone familiar would be really cool. We will have a rental car so we can get around.
