I'm moving to Charlotte after I graduate in May. I was wondering if any of you here had advice for someone new to the area... outside of Bonnaroo, the move is the only thing getting me through this semester.
My roommate and I are heading down this week to look for places to live- any advice would be greatly appreciated - places to live, restaurants, bars (with good live music)... THANKS in advance!
but really... the best music venues are The Neighborhood Theater, The Visualite Theater, and Amos's South End has gotten MUCH better shows lately, and the good ole Double Door Inn has been around for ages
for bars... Philosopher's Stone, Smokey Joe's, The Graduate downtown, there's a bunch
IMO the best part of town to live is the southeast, anywhere within the wedge between Indepenence Blvd and South Blvd... but even then scope it out. Or you can go out next to UNCC... that's growing by leaps and bounds

Hey Kelly
I moved to CLT is 2005...
The City is awesome and there are a lot of cool places to live..
South Charlotte is generally the expensive/congested area.
If you are looking for arts and a younger more artsy neighborhood..check out NoDa www.noda.org/
Its pretty close to uptown (2 miles or so) and its still affordable..plus you have the neigborhood theater and bars and art galleries..yada yada. I'm thinking about moving there with my fiance.
I lived in the University Area (NE Charlotte) and that was really nice to, lots of restaurants and shopping. Not as much in the way of arts and music but its a good place to go if you're moving to Charlotte and want to start renting and get a feel for the city.
There are definitely areas to avoid due east and west of uptown come to mind.
feel free to email me drbrainfreeze@hotmail.com with any questions.

hey! I've lived in Charlotte my whole life and I love it. The area just really depends on your tastes. I personally hate the University area because I like older things with a little more character and individuality. Neighborhood Theatre definitely has good live bands and Philosopher's Stone, Jackelope Jacks and Thomas Street Tavern are some good bars to go to if you don't feel like going uptown. Feel free to PM me if you want.
