Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
It looks like both your systems should have inputs. The question is do either one have an output line (LINE OUT). If either one has a line out, you can run that to the other input(LINE IN) and that should let you use the input system.
I wouldn't be surprised if neither system has an output though.
A decent picture of the back of both systems might allow us to say for sure.
I'm heading out to the Reghina Spektor concert but if you can post the backs I'll look at them when I get back (if no one else can help first.)
Edit: Beat me to it.
Looks like there is no input or output on this, at least not one with up to date hook-ups.

Which one sounds better? That may be the one you want to use to drive the speakers.
Are there any jacks at all on the back on the record player?
It looks like your record player has two jacks on the front. I'm guessing they are for headphones and a microphone. You could get a cable to hook up your CD player into the record players microphone jack.
But if the record player is that old you'd have better sound probably getting a cable to go from the record players headphone jack to the MD/Video in plugs on the CD player.
It will plug into the headphone jack on the record player and the two MD/Video inputs on your CD player. You may have to play with the volume a little on the record player to make it clear but it should work for you.

ok, you're going to have to dumb it down for me. i literally know ABSOLUTELY NOTHING about anything we're talking about.
all i want to know is if i can somehow make the music from my record player come out of the speakers for the cd player. i just have no idea how to connect it to do so.

Perfect. The cable I linked to will plug into the headphone jack. The other end of the cable has two plugs on it. They will plug into your CD player in the two red and white plugs labeled MD/Video input that you showed in your picture.
I'm guessing the front of the CD player has a switch labeled MD/Video. When you want to hear the record player put the switch in that position.

i love the depth vinyl has but the noise and he ocassional distorsion, not to mention size keeps me from getting into it, for regular listening i prefer cd or sound files with a good bit rate and sampling rate, but it would be sick to start a vinyl collection, even though i have no player.

i think that noise and distortion is what makes it vinyl. if you keep your records in good shape, and store them properly, there's no reason they'll sound any worse than a cd or sound file.
i guess i just find some kind of connection with the music knowing its how people first heard it and fell in love with it.

Many argue a good Record Player sounds better than a cd, which i agree with. But the difference between an entry level record player and a audiophile approved one is audible, at least i think. If your records sound real bad you could try just buying a nice cartridge for your current player, that will definitely help.

you could get an AV switcher box....you can hook up to 4 different pieces of equipment and toggle between them. You can find one and any electronics store and they cost about $30. We have to use 2 at my house.
I think it will solve your problem...but I might jave misread (I'm not wearing my glasses right now)
I love the richer sound of vinyl. Whether its due to the continuous analog sound (digital music is broken into discreet bits which are so small that we are supposedly not able to distinguish each piece while analog is actually one long continuous stream) or just being used to the distortion, I don't know. But I think maybe our ears and brains can tell that digital music is actually chopped into pieces so it sounds harsh.
Or maybe it's just my old ears. Still I love vinyl.
Hope you got your system hooked up in some convoluted way.

ok, so i bought the Y cable. its too small to plug into the headphones jack, but it does fit into the mic jack. i plugged the other end into the video out, but its still playing through the original speakers. i know i'm doing something wrong but i don't know what

The link above should get you what you need. The 1/4" to 1/8" headphone jack will plug into the y and plug that cable into the cd line in, it will solve your problems. My living room is wired ridiculously. My computer sound is hooked into my mixer which is connected to my turntables that is routed across the room to my surround sound. i have cable and my xbox 360 hooked into the surround through a switcher. I also have my nintendo and my nintendo 64 hooked up to my tv. The cable is split into my tv and wireless internet. I plug that into the back of my head. I am wired.
This word also has a underground meaning once you break it down. Let’s take “Bonn” for example and it actually turns into the word “Bone”. We all know gays use this word to describe the action of when they are fecal fisting their Cuban cabana boy at their sex bath house parties. Now let’s look at Roo, “Roo” is short for “Kangaroo”.So put the full true message together and you get“Bone a Kangaroo
ok having read through this thread hear is what you need to make it work out for you . go to radio shack and ask for a cord that has a small tip on one end and rca jacks on the other end . i'll get meg to take a picture of the one i have for you . once you have that cord you plug the rca jacks into the out jacks on back of cd player then plung the small end into the mic jack on front of stereo.then get a blank casette and put in in the side that records.in order to listen to cd player this way you have to put tape player on record and push the pause button. push the tape button on front you should be able to listen to your cds...good luck and god speed

Boz has it if his view of your connections is right BUT... That is if your CD player has an RCA audio "out". I didn't see one.
All I saw for an "out" from the CD player was speaker wires and a digital CD out. If this is right than Boz's RCA jacks won't work. Here's an RCA jack.
I don't know of a straight wire way to use a digital out to an analog in (mic in). So you'd have to use the "Mic" input on one end and strip the wires on the other end to hook to the speakers out. Then do as Boz says and act as if you'rer recording with a blank tape on record and pause to here the MIC.
This will result in monaural sound, not stereo, with both speaker producing the same sound, but it will work.
I still think your best bet is to use the headphone OUT to the MD in. Go to Radio sahck and get a connector with a headphone jack on one end and RCA's on the other. Get the $4 adapter maxwell suggested. You can get stereo sound and not have to do the record thing.
Hope we are not confusing you too much. Just think of it as any OUT connected to any IN should work but your older system is definitely not designed to make this easy.

ok, well the cord thing i understand...i just got the wrong size last night...no biggie.
the thing i'm still having problems understanding is how to make both the cd player AND the record player come out of the cd player speakers. i assume the cd player speakers will somehow need to be attached to the record player, but i don't want to have to switch the speaker wire every time i want to switch between media

hippy you need a cord that has headphone plug on one end and rca plugs like above pic troo put up on the other headphone end will be the small size like for headphone on mp3 player and red and white rca plug on the other end then a adapter for the headphone end to fit the headphone plug in on turntable then all you have to do is go from headphone jack to audio input on back of cdplayer then it's time to rock to some good old vinal
