Glad Boz could answer the iPod question. I know nothing about them or their connections. I was dragged kicking and screaming into the digital age when they quit making vinyl . The scars have left me traumatized about new technology. Besides, while they are covenient, I'm not a big fan of the overly compressed MP3 format.
I love my vinyl , am happy with CD's ;D and use MP3's only when necessary .
But between Boz and myself, it seems we can solve anything. Another reason to vote Boz/Troo in '08!
This word also has a underground meaning once you break it down. Let’s take “Bonn” for example and it actually turns into the word “Bone”. We all know gays use this word to describe the action of when they are fecal fisting their Cuban cabana boy at their sex bath house parties. Now let’s look at Roo, “Roo” is short for “Kangaroo”.So put the full true message together and you get“Bone a Kangaroo
I'd like to backup my vinyl on CD's. I have a DVD recorder deck (mainly for recording video) but I'm sure I could run the turntable into it and record. But the turntable has no pre-amp (of course) so it would likely have to be run through the receiver and into the deck. Also the deck would not recognize the song breaks so I would have to manually set an index point between each song. (hassle)
I have also been watching these USB turntables that plug directly into your computer and the price is getting affordable but I have no idea of the recording quality. Also does the software index the song breaks on the CD so you don't end up with essentially one song.
What are your opinions and/or advice. I have many hundreds of albums so I see this as a long term process.

I haven't really looked into it. I have a few crates of vinyl in my basement and I've been wanting to rip them to mp3s. I've looked at usb turntables and that looks like the way to go. Some come with software to help you in the ripping process. I don't know anything about how the sound quality would be, etc, but I figure after a decade of not listening to my records, they're probably gonna' sound pretty crappy anyways compared to all the digital stuff that I've been listening to. My ears have probably forgotten how to filter out all of those pops and crackles.
I would assume (and hope) the USB turntable software would index the song breaks so you can skip songs when listening. I know they have anti-popping software, though I don't know if it's any good.
I'm looking to convert to CD format, not MP3, as MP3 compression does not sound as good unless it is at the max bitrate ( and I still think it's a bit harsh.) Which format do USB turntables convert to and at what bitrate? anyone know?)
my father in law has a cd burner and it puts everything to cd format. not sure of the brand ,but he is using it to put his reel to reel tapes and vinal on

I think what you need is a dj mixer, I can line in or out just about any stereo device through it. There are some cheap ones out there online, or they can be found at a pawn shop.
