I'm getting 3 baby rats in a couple weeks. All three are girls, all three are black in color, 2 are hairless, one is haired. I'm trying to think of names in advance so I'll have an idea of what to call them when they get here. I want a theme for all three names and here's some ideas I've had...
Lily, Rosemary, and (the) Jack (of Hearts)
Prudence, Lucy, and Penny (or Eleanor, Sadie, etc... inspired by Across the Universe)
Juno, Maude, Olive (3 of my favorite movie characters)
I'm open to suggestions. A theme for 3 names is a lot harder than a pair, but there's new possibilities.

i have to ask... Why in the HELL do you want rats as pets?
i'm not trying to be mean at all, just curious. i hate rats, mice and possums!! haha
how about: trap sticky pad poison
i love animals, i really do... but rats!? please explain...
^^ i concur... are these domestic rats as opposed to sewer rats? can rats be domesticated? do you keep in a cage or do they more of a ferrett demeanor? seriously though... i too, am curious...

I had two rats and they make great pets. they can be very affectionate and they are very smart. its kind of like having an extra awesome hamster. Mine were very sweet.
Now you just told me that friendship is all I'm forced to repair the breech in my wall Illusions and dreams, as usual, it seems Sabra girl, they've been my downfall
Extra awesome hamster is a great way to describe them. They are definitely domesticated. If you can get some from a good breeder where they are well socialized they are super friendly. Petsmart and Petco are not good places to get rats. They answer to their names, can be trained tricks just like dogs, and are really loving.
They stay in a cage, but are allowed time out to play. They will hang out on your shoulder or in the pocket of a hoodie. Ferrets aren't a good comparison, there's no comparison to ferrets. Ferrets are just weird.
For anyone who really wants a dog, but can't have one. I recommend a rat. They are also the best "first pet" for a child. They are hardier than hamsters and gerbils and are much more friendly while still being relatively easy to care for. The biggest downside is that they do not live very long. 2 years is average. 4 is about as old as they get. My little Frankie lived 3 1/2 years which is pretty remarkable. Oh, and they will be your drinking partner! Frankie loved to have a few sips of red wine. She'd drown herself in the glass if I let her. And scientists have discovered that rats laugh. It's just in a frequency too high for us to hear.
Keep the names coming. This is fun! I like the MASH names, but we already have a ferret named Radar, so that won't work. And the greek names are a neat idea, but they are a mouthful!
I'll list our current pets names to give you an idea of what kinds of names we like:
Yes I am aware that I am insane and I am probably breaking several laws. But they are all given their basic needs and lots of love and playtime. They all see vets when they need to and the dogs and cats get their shots. And nearly every one of them is a second hand pet. Some were adopted from humane societies, some were dumped by their former owners on Craig's List and some were rescued from horrible situations. Most of them would be dead if we hadn't taken them in.
one of my rats was best friends with one of my cats. we let them play with eachother all the time also, another one of my cats was best friends with one of my pet mice. when my mouse died she just slept next to her cage for a couple of days
