Oh man i totally agree!! Why cant stuff stay the same all the time!! Why does anything ever have to change? Im going to be sure to keep my expectations real high, so i can complain about how much it sucks, and how great it was years ago. Good thing im such an expert.
I think its when Chef's voice actor left the show is kinda when it really started going down hill.
I don't think it was mentioned why he left, but it was probably because the show wasn't going in a direction he felt was right.
Isaac Hayes left because he's a Scientologist, and they had an episode that blasted scientology. There's more to it than that, but in a nutshell, that's what happened.

Well, I'm just stating my opinion (as you are) and, just for the record, my expectations are never high for a show like South Park or Family Guy... I expect what has come to be expected of these shows; a few good laughs, and maybe some clever plot devices... It's just not as good as it used to be.
I was sitting here thinking about how South Parks not as good, so I went to Jumptheshark.com, and to my surprise, it's widely believed that the show never jumped...
I can't put my finger on if or when South Park did, but it's definitely no where near as good as it was about 5 or 6 years ago.
Thanks for the "jumped the shark" reference. I had never heard that phrase. IMHO Southpark jumped the shark when they killed off Chef. I don't think I've seen a Wow episode since. It might be time to pull the plug and move on.
Last nights episode was disapointing, but there's always one or two of them within a season. But to think that their hasn't been a good episode since Chef left is ridiculous. What about Imaginationland? Or the Bono episode? How about the Snuke episode? Plus the Homeless or D-Yikes episodes, I think last season was actually pretty good for being the 12th season.
Personally, the reason I enjoy South Park (my all-time favorite show) so much is that I'm a South Park Conservatist. I agree with 99% of their views, and they attack current issues that I have opinions on. I feel like I've "grown up" with South Park. Plus, the little things within an episode are what get me the most. Take last nights episode for example; when they switched back to the debate from Britney Watch, you heard Hilary saying "spearchuckers," and the scene is cut. I died laughing at that part, and everyone around me just stared. I think the show isn't as good as it was a few seasons ago, but it's still damn good. Would you rather be watching South Park, or Desperate Housewives? ;D
every season has had their hits and misses. Like i said earlier, its either 1) expectations are raised, or 2) people are overly critical, which comes back to raised expectations
I see... it's still an enjoyable show to me, I haven't missed an episode since I got Comedy Central about ten years ago. Hopefully they can put my criticisms to rest and bounce back with some great episodes... maybe their saving the best for later on.

That spearchucker thing was pretty funny, I'll give you that.
Maybe south park is the same, and maybe its the viewers that have changed. I mean, im different than i was when i was watching South Park 8 years ago when i was 19.

South Park has evolved as a show, and frankly, I think its atop its game. Imaginationland was incredible to say the least. There is no another animated show as socially relevant or poignant. They aren't just trying to be funny, they are trying to shed light on various aspects of society. I've been watching it since its inception, and I can see how some people would prefer "older" South Park episodes to newer ones, but it has really been the same show all along.

^^^ I agree, there really isnt anything I really HAVE TO watch on TV, only south park. That "spearchucker" comment made me spit my beer all over my coffee table, holy hell was that random. I loved the chanting everyone did, and I loved how everytime they went back to "Britney Watch" it was in a different sounding voice, it kinda reminded me of "they took er jeeeeeebssss!" I thinks someone said it already, but the itty bitty small details make this show (imo) I cant wait for next week.........er, wait, i'll be roadtrippin, gonna hafta get it on itunes i guess. boooo.
Like all the rest of the season? Yeah... But, like the rest of the season, there were some side splittingly funny parts... specifically Butter's song on YouToob.

Seemed a little odd that the south park episode had a centralized theme of youtube and then was followed by lewis black's the root of all evil discussing youtube and porn.
I personally haven't seen most of the youtube videos that the episode referenced, but i laughed out loud when i saw cartoon black ninja hit the deck.
