Taking the chance that there are some Titans fans in the house...
(from my myspace blog)
Tennessee Titans... Bring ’Em Back Y’all!
So far this off season the Titans have made lots of progress for the coming season.
In January, the Titans re-hired Mike Heimerdinger as offensive coordinator. He was with the Titans from 2000-2004. Titans coaches, players, and fans are hoping Heimerdinger can jump start an offense that was one of the worst last season.
In February, the Titans announced DT Albert Haynesworth would be their "franchise player" which gives them longer to work out a multi-year deal with him. Haynesworth’s value to the Titans was obvious during several games last season when he was out with an injury. It will be crucial for them to work out a deal with him and making this move gives them until July 15 to do so.
The Titans also signed WR Justin Gage to a multi-year contract, keeping him from becoming an unrestricted free agent. In 2007, Gage led the Titans in receiving yards with 750.
So far March has seen the most beneficial moves by the Titans. It started March 3rd when the Titans signed 4 time pro bowl TE Alge Crumpler (from ATL) to a multi-year contract. It seems like the Titans have always wanted the tight end position to weigh heavily in having a successful offense, but not really having the talent or healthy players the past few years has kept them from enjoying the benefits of an outstanding TE. Crumpler can make a significant difference in the run offense and obviously make a lot of catches in the passing game. This addition for me is the most exciting and holds the most promise.
In another aquisition, the Titans signed DE Jevon Kearse to a multi-year deal. The Titans lost him to free agency in 2004 during their salary cap woes. Many Titans fans were sad to see "The Freak" go. I still have a Kearse jersey and am very excited to be able to wear it again. He will be wearing the same number (90) that he wore back then. This addition will make a powerful defensive line even more so with Kearse lining up opposite Kyle Vanden Bosch, with Haynesworth in the middle.
Yesterday the Titans proved they are not finished with the (re)additions. They re-signed WR Justin McCareins after giving him up to the Jets in 2004. The Titans can definitely use his experience to amp up the passing game.
Other noteable changes in Titans’ lineup include the loss of three defensive players to free agency: DE Antwon Odom, DE Travis LaBoy, and G Jacob Bell. None of them were really stand-out players and should not affect the overall performance of the D line. Just a couple day ago the Titans picked up offensive lineman Jake Scott from the Colts. His experience can do nothing but help the often ailing offensive line of the Titans.
All in all I would say the past few months the Titans are definitely in the plus column when it comes to roster changes. I’m am very hopeful for next season. Only 5 months til preseason!

yeah Kearse has definitely not had the same success the past couple of years as he did when he was originally with the titans.... i'm hoping he can stay healthy (he had a significant injury) and i'm hoping the titans defensive style fits more with his "ball chaser" mentality. *shrug* we shall see!
edit: karma to you for knowing that! are you a titans fan?
Titans fan in Memphis here!! I make it up to Nashville for at least one game a year. I was at the Giants game where Vince made that miraculous comeback!!!
I don't know what to expect from this year. These last 2 years we have completely over-achieved. the firing of Norm Chow was a strange move to me. I'm not sure what will come of the offense now that he is gone, but I do know we need some damn receivers. Love our running game and our stout Defense. We just need to put the ball in the endzone through the air. We are too one dimensional.

I am not a Titans fan, although i did like them when they had Eddie George. I just cant like a team that refuses to address their one glaring weakness aggressively. (receiver) And i agree about Norm Chow, they need a change of management, not coaches.

i agree, their receivers (or lack of) have always been a problem. always wondered why they never tried to get any BIG talent to fill some shoes there (esp after losing mason).
i don't know about the norm chow thing. i was never really confident about his process of running an NFL offense. i think he's better fitted for college.
Now you just told me that friendship is all I'm forced to repair the breech in my wall Illusions and dreams, as usual, it seems Sabra girl, they've been my downfall
I've been a MN Viking fanatic for 39 years, since I was 7. Couldn't change just 'cause Nashville got a team. I do root for the Titans except once every 4 years when they play the Vikes.
Watch out. The Vikings play the Titans in Nashville for the first time ever this Fall. (Yes, the Vikings did play the TN Oilers in1998 at Vandy in the Oilers last game ever.)
You know the best thing about the Titans? They always lose to the Vikings. They are 0-2, both times in MN. And 0-1 as the TN Oilers.
See ya at the Coliseum this Fall. Look for the Viking decked out all in fur.
I loathe the Cowboys. In the '70s the Vikings and Cowboys went to 9 of 10 SuperBowls. It was a race between us and them every year. I've never gotten past that.
The Hershell trade was just salt in an open wound.

Very interesting. I was born in MN, grew up going to Vikings games. I moved to Tn in 87, but have remained a Vikes fan. When the oilers came to Memphis to play in the liberty bowl, I started going to those games, and transplanted my fandom to the oilers/titans. I still root for both teams, b/c they play in separate conferences. My ideal matchup is vikes/titans super bowl. Win-win situation for me.
True, if the coaches can figure out how to use him. We have no receivers that need doubling so the defenses just put 8 men in the box. No one can run against that. And our coaches always try anyway.
Against the Redskins in a game that would have put the Vikings in the play-offs, they threw once on 1st down against the 8 man front. This led to 3rd and looong every time and they blitz our young QB. When we throw on 1st down we get big gains and it opens up the run, but our coaches are dead set against it.
If the Vikes get a star receiver, and the coaches learn to adjust to the defenses, we could go places.
Under Fisher we will always be a run first, Defensive-minded team. That is his formula for success. What helped us get to a superbowl was having a big play deep threat like Mason and Dyson were back then. Bennett was developing into it. I was a bit shocked to see him go to the Rams as a 3rd or even 4th option when he was our #1 receiver. I guess some players do play for money. With Vince's legs and a young, strong backfield in White/Henry, we have pieces in place. We just need a deep threat. We need receivers from this draft badly. Either that or maybe we will make a move on draft day to get a big play receiver.

Have you ever gone to Wilhagan's Bar in Nashville? It's a Vikings bar. Whenever theres a game, it's nothing but horns and helga hats in there.
I'm from MN, but don't follow NFL football. It was a trip to walk in there with my dad one Sunday, though. They were playing the Packers that day, so there was one lone, ostracized cheesehead sitting in the corner. Hahaha.

I think at this point before the draft the Titans are realistically the 7th best team in the AFC at best. I'm not sold on Vince Young as a passer either.
so, 4 or 5 years ago, I joined the TN Titans waiting list to get season tickets.
Today they emailed me, and said it's my turn!!! the seats are shit, but hey at least I am in!! I've been waiting for so long for this. I went ahead and bought them on the spot. From what I can tell, I grabbed the last 4 they had together. Very excited. Probably won't make all 10 games, but I'll try to make most of them.
I've been going to games every year for 5 years now so this is exciting for my family!

It's hard to tell when his receivers drop the first few passes each game...

I agree that its not all his fault, but I also don't think it is all the receivers. Right now hes more of a Michael Vick, but definitely shows promise to refine his passing.
Vince seems like he is going to be better than vick, he probably doesn't own any dogs, and he does seem like his passing can improve. Vick was a running back who was behind center every snap
