don't know how many history buff's we have out there, but if you have HBO. WATCH THE NEW 8-PART SERIES 'JOHN ADAMS'. I highly recommend it. its absolutely amazing as far as the cast, but the glimpse into our history and to see at such a 'down to earth' view of the beginning of our country is soooooooooooooo unreal to watch and they are only on part 2! paul giamatti and laura linney are awesome as always, and watchin' david morse as george washington is just eerie! just throwin' it out there.
Makes me wish I had cable. HBO does the best work.
I have always been fascinated by John and Abigail's relationship; it's strength, equality and passion, even while it was carried on over long distances for much of the time.
And Adams is such a complicated character. There is so much to like and hate about the man.
I caught part of an episode at my girlfriend's parents' place this weekend. I'm not sure exactly which part it was, but he was defending the unpopular cause of some Redcoats whose base had been attacked by colonists.
It looked quite interesting, and I'll have to check out the entire series when/if it comes out on DVD.

I'm liking the series so far, but to be honest, it could use a bit of editing... the length of the 2episodes I've seen boarders on pretentiousness. I personally like Paul Giamatti, but I'm finding his performance very one-dimensional so far.... I wonder if he'll look intense and pensive in this next scene as well ? Even his scenes with Abigail (Linney) seem to have little or no emotional subtext, but rather show a purely intellectual relationship (from him, at least). Linney brings passion to the role, showing a real depth of character... one wonders if the writers didn't spend more time fleshing her role out than that of Adams himself.
The rest of supporting cast is likewise superb. You're right about David Morse, although I wonder how much of that is attributable to make-up. Whoever plays Thomas Jefferson is a genius!

he was defending the redcoats who fired at the boston massacre. he got them acquited!!! that was an actual fact i never knew.
^ps i believe giamatti is doin' an amazing job...that man is certainly a genius! and morse definetly has a lot of makeup on but still...
I'll have to find a way to watch it online of download it. My professor is giving extra credit for watching and writing a paper over it. He said he would also give extra credit if we went to the Springsteen concert. He is also showing an episode of South Park in class!!
i wish my teachers were like that lol. anyways i really enjoy this show, but paul giamatti [sic?] is such an amazing actor and laura linnney too. i am really digging this show, but i love a lot of hbo films and original series. i miss john from cincinnati tho. i thought that show was amazing and wish it would have gotten picked up. at least the dvd came out this week. anyways john adams is definitely worth watching if it is your type of thing and you like good acting.
