These certainly aren't gaffes, he's been talking about bombing Iran "in jest" for a year. I am completely opposed to being in Iraq and have been since the beginning. Those were some lonely damn days. Anyway my problem is no one can define what victory in Iraq is so how can they plan Iran. Next time re-instate the draft and watch what happens.
The problem is they will institute a "Vietnam type" draft where the wealthy can go to college forever or buy deferments (ie Cheney, Rush ) or get limited slots in the Guard (ie Bush, Quayle) where they won't have to serve.
Let me say many patriotic people would still volunteer and God bless 'em for it but the draft would only affect the poor, who are always the ones getting screwed.

Iran is a primarily Shiite nation and is NOT funding the Sunni group, that is Al-Qaeda. There's a reason he corrected himself within moments of the comment -- it's simply off base. If funds from Iran make it into the Al-Qaeda pot, it's from those indirect, wildly loose lines, like you mentioned, through Syria or another nation.
