it seems like ever since the OLGA went offline that the only tabs sites out there are very genre or band-specific (or will be diverse but have like zero songs to choose from). anyone know any good all-encompassing tab sites like the OLGA used to be?
911tabs.com will pull up just about every guitar tab site on the net...it still pulls up sites (like Olga) that have been pulled by the RIA...but basically it will just go out and hit all the hits for almost every tab it fan find for any site....I just go there for any song I want to find a tab for and just start going through the sites....ones I have most luck with are ultimateguitararchive and AZ Chords personally.....
LOL....you can download free guitar tabs - that are "only one person's interpretation for educational purposes ONLY" mind you.. for popular songs....well for just about ANY song for that matter.....lots of people with MUCH more time than me sit around and listen to songs and figure out how to play them and then post the tabs on websites....you can go out and download them or just copy and paste them (most of them are flat text) into word or notepad, and then learn to play them.
Of course some of them are better than others....some people are better players than other....some are just simple chord interpretations for beginners and some get downright HARD! But what I like about 911tabs is that they give the users the ability to give each version of the tab of the song a rating from 1-5 so you can see which ones the users have ranked the highest - i.e. which one people think is "closest" to sounding like the real thing.....
At least that is MY take on the whole thing... ;D For what it is worth....
Aha - Oh I bet she will think that is cool - thanks bunches - off to email her about them - she got a laptop of her own for Christmas and I just know - is currently at my parents house logged onto the wireless - surfing the net
and tabs are WAY easier than reading sheet music. i was listening to dave matthews today and realized 10 years ago i could play almost all his songs and now i know maybe two of them, so i decided to get back into the tab world.
OK - judging from the teenagers reaction - *I* am an idiot because I did not know about these beforehand - she shrugged her shoulder and said "Where do you think my guitar teacher gets the music he has been teaching me?" Which just tells me that I shouldnot be paying him $15 per freakin' lesson to teach her crap that she could learn on her own.
^^ Not that simple meg. Tabs do a horrid(or nonexistant) job of showing time and picking or strumming method, thats what must be taught. Also, 15 a lesson is a good deal compared to around here.. you want a decent guitar or bass teacher you are payin 30-45 per lesson

I know - she just frustrates me sometime - ungrateful little wench. She actually had the opprtunity to have a GREAT guitar teacher - Patrick Harkins (http://www.patrick-harkins.com/) who has moved back to Jackson - but her dad dropped the ball - he wsa supposed to be paying for the lessons - anyway - long story short - she is being taught by the husband of the 10 year old's piano teacher
See this is why the "maybe" will remain in effect for quite some time when people ask me if i ever want kids...
Ehhh - you are still young - and so are you Becca - no need to rush - I can honestly say - I am enjoying the two year old much more then I did the older ones when they were her age - I am more laid back because I am older.
And the teenager is actually a pretty cool kid - most of the time - I am sure all of you realize that with the way I talk about her - she just frustrates the hell outta me at times and the pre-teen is starting to pick up on the attitude.
well, i'm 24 and i've been really starting to realize what a pain in the *ss i must've been for my parents when i was a teenager, so karma to you for handling it with grace
i, however, am still riding the "i'm not ready for kids" train
*i like coconuts, you can break them open they smell like ladies lyin in the sun** *Hell I don't even know where I am** *for now I must sit here and ponder the yonder: The herbivores did well cause their food didn't never run** *We listen, if it feels good We shake** *You made a big impression for a girl of your size, Now I can't get by without you and your big brown eyes.**
Old thread but just what I need right now.I am learning guitar and wonder if someone could suggest a recent site that has chords and tips for beginners.I have found many links that seen promising and then they aren't.
Instead of dirt and poison, we have rather chosen to fill our hives with honey and wax; thus furnishing mankind with the two noblest of things, which are sweetness and light.

Good Luck!
911 is the best site I've found. You'll find 10 different tabs for the same song, all with ratings so you know which ones are good.
However, the most accurate tabs I've found have been on band specific pages. frankblack.net has made my life so much easier

www.cyberfret.com . They've got some really easy to understand lessons on there as well as chord/scale charts and that type of stuff.

Thanks mucho rooconteur, that site is all that and a bag of edamame. I found nearly everything I was looking for.
and I would love to hear that tape ; )
Your welcome. And "I have a tape I want to play you" is the first thing David Byrne says on the Talking Heads' Stop Making Sense live album, right before an amazing "Psycho Killer". It is must-listen material for bonnaroo 09. Highly recommended.
roocon, I heard David Byrne at my second roo. I was in camp only -right in front of the What(where VIP is these days). It is clear and vivid even now - good memories.I have not heard that album tho - but I will ask around to some of my music trading friends.
