Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
Considering the fact that none of the other main forums are really music specific, I'd say it's in the right spot. I realize it can go "off topic," in the sense that non-Roo related material is discussed, but it's esentially a breeding ground for much of the musical curiousity on the board. Hell, it often spurs listening trends and lineup suggestions.
Also, like Jay said, it has been in that location for about five years. Why fu*k with it now?
Fair enough. I just think it would free up some more room on the front page of Troo. I guess I disagree that the thread is in the right spot. Which Stage is entirely dedicated to music related discussion, seems like that would be the best fit.
Been a little while since I've been on here since I didn't go to the fest last year. But something I've noticed since I started checking back in a few weeks ago - the mods seem to be very quick to lock threads. A little too over eager to use that power in my opinion. I understand not wanting to be repetitive but you gotta let different conversations develop. i.e. It is possible to have multiple worthwhile threads about one band or show if people are discussing different aspects of it.

In the Troo Music Lounge, there's a list of bands with a thread for each. I don't see any reason why all discussion about a band can't go on within one thread. Sometimes we'll let a duplicate thread go for a bit till the discussion gets off course and then lock it. It's not about power, it's about keeping things neat and tidy and easier to browse.

Would you guys consider putting a sticky on the lineup additions thread? I have seen some nOObs who just don't know where to look create redundant threads on the subject. Being more visible might help the situation. Thanks! See you on the Farm!

There needs to be some way to cut down on noobs (i use the term with love) from starting threads already discussed such as a probation period. Something like they have to read/post in so many already active thread before they have the ability to start a new thread, thus forcing them to search/read/become acquainted with the board before posting another headliner/timeslot/Kayne thread. Just a thought probably too much work on someone behalf, its just annoying

ehh - I think all we can do is gently lead them in the direction of the threads they should have found before posting
50 post minimum to start a thread or 100 would be ideal
I think 50 is a good number. 100 maybe a little excessive. And maybe if you don't have the set number of posts yet you can get your thread approved by a mod? There may be a "noob" out there that actually has a really good, original topic for a thread.

See - I think 50 is too much - 25 would be adequate

something along these lines though of having a post count. I think that will make them look around for a bit instead of just starting random topics in the wrong forums and whatnot

I've debated suggesting something like this, but I'm split on it.
On the one hand:
We have been locking a lot of threads lately. It seems like an average of 5 or so a day. And yes, the vast majority of these threads are started by people who have less than 100 posts. It is a problem, and I wish people had better message board etiquette.
But on the other hand: Setting a post-limit for people who can start a thread is snobbish. It will dissuade people from signing-up for the message board, and frustrate new users. Additionally, we will likely find that new members will become post whores in their first day, in order to reach the magic number. I do not want a bunch of noobs filling this message board with rambling posts in order to start their own thread.
Not to mention the fact that my very first post on this board was a leak of the 2007 initial line-up. Had their been a post-limit, I never would have been able to start that thread. (Of course, I could have posted it in any other thread, and let someone else start the thread, which I suppose remedies that issue).
So, ultimately, I'm undecided. I think I do lean on the side of instituting a post limit, but I don't think the mods here will ever go for it.

On a related note, I think part of the reason for duplicate threads is because the search function on this board sucks so badly. I'm not sure if there is anything that can be done about that though. But a more efficient search option would certainly help things.
This is very true and is the bane of my inforoo moderating existence. I try desperately to find threads that I know exist and search in as many different ways as I can think of and I can never find the old threads without looking through every page. It sucks. I know

its not possible.
Even if a probation thing worked we'd have noobs spouting off like fire crackers, individually posting a single word per post for a 25 worded sentence.
