For me anyway, this is easily the best lineup the festival's put together since '04. Diverse and well fitted to the format. There was a lot of talk of big time headliners, but honestly, I don't think Zilker is set up well for that in a festival setting. On top of that, given that I'm going to Bonnaroo and Pitchfork, this festival is sort of like icing on the cake. Just enough big names up there that I have no interest in seeing at all. Plus, Bjork and Dylan are on my see before I die list...

Am I the only one concerned by the blurring of festivals? Sure, Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza and ACL, etc. all have unique artists and styles, but there is a LOT of overlap. To me it's kind of disappointing, almost like we haven't got anything special. I know that's not really true, but it still lingers...

Eh....
...This lineup didn't wow me at all. There's good bands, But seriously, what do they have in their lineup that Bonnaroo doesn't rival? I'll take Bonnaroo's lineup hands down, any day over ACL's. Just my two cents.

blaze, I kinda agree with you. That's been my main beef about the Virgin lineup. The problem is it's very difficult to figure out who's mimicing who-- in other words, who's to blame.
I also want to say that I have no idea who One Mississippi is, but that is a completely kickass band name.

Well, they have Bob Dylan, Bjork, Arcade Fire, Yo La Tengo, My Morning Jacket, Lucinda Williams, Robert Earl Keen, M.I.A., Ghostland Observatory, LCD Soundsystem and a bunch of British bands you either care or don't care about. I think the lineups are comparable outside of the obvious huge draw of The Police. Any of those acts on any given year could probably perform at Bonnaroo as much as they could perform at ACL. I think the format sets ACL apart.
I will say this in ACL's favor. They have two acts that are can't miss for me: Bjork and Dylan. Whereas Bonnaroo really only has one: Manu Chao. But I also know that Bonnaroo has a format that's really kick ass, and puts together collaborations and experiences that far exceed anything you'll find at ACL. But I think ACL's done a good job of doing what they do best: getting a mixture foreign indie bands, Roots/Americana acts, Austin acts and Adult Contemporary acts.

I don't know. I tend to think year after year, the stereotypes of each festival are pretty much reinforced by the lineup with a few exceptions. If you gave me a list of top headliners (RATM, The Police, Bob Dylan, Pearl Jam), I'd pretty much put them at the festivals they're at. But then, I probably wouldn't predict Manu Chao for Coachella, Tool for Bonnaroo, Ben Harper for Lollapalooza or Bjork for ACL.

I just realized that this makes the 4th festival-- along with Coachella, Sasquatch! and the Toronto Virgin fest-- which will have Bjork. Oversaturation aside, it makes me very concerned about why Bonnaroo couldn't/didn't book her. Lord knows it'll be another 3 years or so for her to tour through the US again.
ACL 3 day passes are sold out...and i havent bought the ticket yet....this is unbelievable....going to have to buy 1 day passes...... i still cant believe how unbelievable it is since they didnt sell out last year. but this years line up is a lot better. im just in shock.

Ugh, that really bums me, I thought I would have a while to buy my ticket since I'm pretty much broke after Bonnaroo.
The conflicts that stand out: Friday Conflicts: LCD Soundsystem vs. M.I.A., Queens of the Stone Age vs. Spoon, Crowded House vs. Joss Stone
Saturday Conflicts: Andrew Bird vs. Steve Earle, Amy Winehouse vs. Zap Mama, Arctic Monkeys vs. Muse, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah vs. Cross Canadian Ragweed vs. Indigo Girls, and of course, the biggie, The White Stripes vs. Arcade Fire
Sunday Conflicts: The National vs. STS9, DeVotcKA vs. Rodrigo y Gabriela, Robert Earl Keen vs. Ben Kweller, Lucinda Williams vs. Bloc Party, Rose Hill Drive vs. Preservation Hall Jazz Band vs. Amos Lee vs. Regina Spektor, Del McCoury Band vs. Wilco vs. MMJ, Ziggy Marley vs. Reverend Horton Heat vs. Ghostland Observatory vs. The Decemberists.
And surprisingly enough, I'm much happier with the conflicts this year over last. Last year, it seemed like every band I wanted to see was playing at two time slots every day. This year, I'm pretty much guaranteed seeing someone I like nearly every hour. Plus, I got the 3-day wristband and not the $80 single day tix with all the no leave restrictions those things have. My advice to people who want to go to the festival but don't have the 3 day pass...wait. Unless you only want to go one day, single day tix aren't really worth it. Ebay is going to price you out. Craigslist will have a ton of illegitimate offers. And with the way the printpasses are laid out this year, you could get really ripped off. And sometimes the ACL peeps release batches of 3 day passes to screw over scalpers as the summer goes on.
If you have to, buy one single day ticket and plan your music weekend around enjoying Austin and checking out the aftershows. Then go down and try to get a wristband off someone when the price is right. It's much easier to sell off aftershow tix at the last second that it will be one day tickets.
The Arcade Fire is the band at the top of my list of unseens....but the White Stripes is my absolute favorite band.....that is enough to make me just choose NOT to go...because I couldn't handle that conflict.
And Wilco vs. MMJ? Missed most of Wilco at Roo to get a decent spot for the WS but would really like to see them.
Also, Arctic Monkeys vs. Muse is pretty rough too...
Yeah, the hardest one for me is M.I.A. vs. LCD Soundsystem. But as far as the conflicts go, here's a little hint: keep your eye on the aftershows. The White Stripes are likely playing Stubb's Sunday after Dylan, and I would be genuinely shocked if Arcade Fire didn't play an aftershow either.

i would LOVE to go to ACL.. my friend has a condo out in Austin so it'd be convenient, but I'm thinking I'd rather just save up the money and just have a really really really good time at Voodoo
