Well, I've been lurking around here for long enough... it's about time I join in on the fun!
I was very very pleased with how Echo Project turned out for me. My crew ended up with a prime spot right in the middle of the action. I'm pretty sure we were just across the main road from the marley flag. I actually had the first tent/car on the road right before that little cluster of portos before the vendors started. Maybe you guys saw me, I was wearing orange crocs and a Yes shirt pretty much all weekend!
As far as festivals go, I had previously only been to Bonnaroo the past 2 years. I must say that the smaller crowd was a relief. For the caliber of artists, I was amazed at how easy it was to get close to the stage with plenty of room to spread out. I don't think I ever waited in a line more than 3 people long for anything either.
Some of my highlights:
- Getting to see the flaming lips soundcheck friday before noon amongst 100 people or so.
- Being exposed to the Disco Biscuits for the first time while hanging out with my best ladyfriend Lucy in the sky. Truly a remarkable experience... especially with those lights!! (^^sweet pics)
- Finding some of the best brownies i've ever had from the vendor on the inside with the "glass pipes" sign.
- Hearing some of the funniest things people were saying while sitting in my tent late at night, since it was in a very high traffic area (in more ways than one).
- Hearing many people rocking the new Radiohead at various times thorughout the whole weekend.
- Only having a 20 minute drive home ;D
And the lowlights:
- Not bringing a good jacket.
- Friday night our neighbors had a Rave at their camp and were BLASTING the house music into the wee hours. I got no problem with people wilding out at a festival, but I gotta say that it was a bit annoying coming down/trying to sleep with that constant thump. They totally made up for it by carving those sweet ECHO pumpkins!
- Having to watch some guy get carried out on a stretcher at Treasure Fingers.
- It was sweet to be right near the action, but more than once we had security dudes come up to our camp with flashlights looking for glass bottles. It felt quite intrusive. I wasn't there, but a buddy of mine said that one dude came up to him and made him drop his balloon. Maybe this was just because we were camped along the road.
Best sets for me:
The Flaming Lips Disco Biscuits latenight (set 2) The Album Leaf Rabbit in the Moon The Duo Les Claypool Man Man God is an Astronaut
All in all it was an AMAZING weekend, and with it being held pretty much in my backyard, I look forward to next year!!
P.S. My buddy runs the Atlanta music blog. He posted his in depth review complete with more pics and some video clips. Check it out at www.ohmpark.com
hey! i'm right next to the guy with the red bandana in the polyphonic spree picture. just...not pictured.
You couldn't have been very far in front of us then. Did you see the very excited guy with the yellow t-shirt that he had torn and decorated? He came up there part-way through, and was directly in front of us. (I can't think of anything all that descriptive to identify either of us! )
dude thats why i didnt see the flag, it wasnt high enough! i was looking to the skies,
Those damn flag thieves!!!
That pic was taken after it had been retreived that morning. It lost about 6-7 feet of pole in its adventure.
It was a 12 foot pole. Half of it went missing. Thankfully I got my flags back. The pole can be rebuilt. I have the technology. It's going to be bigger, better, and stronger than ever before! All blinky and glowy too.

I hope that I'm not talkinng trash about any of you fine folks but.....
Did the flute-playing guy annoy anyone else? He got right in front of us at Dubconscious's Thursday set and played the hell out of it. He followed us around a vendor's stand while alternating flute and witty comments on Friday. (he was obviously bugging the hell out of the guy who was running the stand.) He kept walking past us while we were trying to watch The Roots, playing along with the music on Sunday.
Don't get me wrong. He was a pretty good flautist an all but, it got old...and quick. Especially when I was trying to watch and listen some of the bands. I'm glad that he can play the flute so well but, I didn't pay to hear him do an impromtu 'guest spot' while actual bands were trying to play.
Maybe I'm a scrooge but, he was really bugging me by Sunday.
Anyone else? (or am i just an asshole)

LMAO! You know, it took me about 10 minutes to realize he WASN'T a vendor (or at least WITH one of the vendors) the first time I saw him. Then when I saw him giving people impromtu flute lessons and saw him a few other times I finally got it....
Never heard him play along with the bands though...that would have annoyed the hell out of me too! I mean singing along is one thing (and bad enough sometimes....though I'll admit I am one of the guilty parties when it's one of my fave songs ;D ;D) but actually PLAYING along with the band???? Kinda unprofessional courtesy I would think.....
