Ugh. I had a VERY odd run in with Perez Hilton at a Lollapalooza afterparty that he hosted at the Hard Rock Hotel in Chicago. I won't get into details, but let me say that I'd be very very happy if I never ran into him again. Good God.
What happens if my tee shot lands on a bird's back and he carries it out of bounds but then is attacked by a larger bird who grabs the ball and drops it in the hole? Is that still a hole in one? 'Cause that's how I'm gonna play it.
So the dates are out. August 8th thru the 10th. Sound like another fest in Nj .... Same weekend as Vineland. Eff. So Yeah and the NY Times is reporting that Radiohead and Jack Johnson are the headliner possibilities. I can't post a link but its up on Brooklyn Vegan.

I'm still leaning towards this all of this just being a confused interpretation of the Vineland festival.
The park is roughly 1000 acres. Of that, 500 aren't accessible to the public and 300 are dedicated to permanent structures and landscaping. That leaves only 200 acres for the festival... not bad, but not great either. I can't see them allowing camping at all, but if they do, I can almost guarantee it'll be all tent-only, with parking somewhere off site. The surrounding neighborhood isn't the best, but there are lots of transportation options.
I could maybe see something like Virginfest, but not Coachella. If it's true, it's going to be a logistical nightmare. The lineup would really have to be great for me to consider it, even if it were a different weekend than the Vineland festival.

Hey Spooky -- do you have to hop a ferry to get to the park? I can't remember.
No. You can drive there (Turnpike has an exit, but there are local non-toll roads as well) or take a train (PATH to Exchange Place, then transfer to the light rail, which goes straight into LSP). You only need the ferry if you're continuing on to Ellis Island.
Although it is great that there are going to be plenty of festival options this year, all of these festivals seem like it might be a bad thing for both the festivals and the festival-goer. If this Coachella east thing is for real, then you are talking about two festivals in New York on the same weekend in August (Coachella east & Vineland) one week after Lollapalooza and Virgin festival. That seems like there would be lots of canabalizing going on with the acts and the crowd. There's no way that I am going to be able to swing Lolla one weekend and then get my ass up to NY the next weekend to check out whichever festival. Although, now that I think about it, maybe they will have alot of the same bands play both festivals just on different days, and the promoters will split the freight. I know that they do that in Europe.
I guess I am saying that I hope that all these promoters don't get too over their heads and end up losing money and closing down shop next year and then there are no festivals in August 2009.
I definitely know that I am going to be waiting for all of the line-ups for all of the festivals to come out, before making my choice this year. Plus I am going to have to factor in Radiohead tour as well.
And for how great Bonnaroo has been the past few years, I think that I am leaning towards city-located festival like Lolla or Virgin or Coachella East. Just to get a new/different experience. But some of that probably has to do with my wife's new job which should get us some cheap hotel rates.
Just my two cents. Lets hope that it all works out, but if it doesn't lets hope that the promoters don't get too scared and pull out of the east coast markets entirely in 2009. That would be a shame.
C3 originally said there would be major overlap, including headliners, due to C3's involvement in both Lolla and Vineland. I would imagine the same might be true for Coachella and Coachella East as far as promotion and securing acts. But you're right...logistical nightmare for anyone hoping to make two festivals in August!

Thats good to know. Thanks for the heads up on the overlap.
Wow, this is in my backyard. I knew there was a reason why I moved to Jersey.
As far the cluster of festivals go in Aug, the only ones that is defiantly a go is Lollapooza and Virgin. I think there won't be many problems with the Coachella fest in NY/NJ, but I do have my doubts on the Vineland Fest happening. I keep on thinking of the crap that happened with Field Day and Bonnaroo NE. I just hope that I am wrong about that town politics preventing the festival from happening.
I have a feeling that there might be a joint announcement of the Coachella line-up next week and the announcement of the creation of the Coachella East festival.
People on the Coachella board are rumoring that Radiohead, Led Zeppelin, and Daft Punk could be headlining this festival. I think the sentiment is that due to the recent failures of east coast festivals, AEG is going to have a remarkably strong line-up to make sure the new festival is a sucess. I hope that they are right. It seems like it would be a hell of a time.
Radiohead, Led Zeppelin, and Daft Punk. That can't possibly be true.
To good to be true, but I could see at least one of those acts being there. Most likely Radiohead, but any one of them would get my ass up to New York City.
Great news. I have good feelings about this festival. Great setting, good management (Coachella people), and a really good chance for a great line-up. With Radiohead a definite, everything else is gravy. With the Coachella people putting the line-up together, I feel like there will be a electronic tent and alot of hip-hop, which is great. Plus, since it is in NYC, there will be plenty of late night activities during the festival, which has always been where Roo trumps Chella - late night. This might be the best of both worlds.
