Hello I have been lurking here for about 4 months and this is a great resource for all those who wish to make the trek to bonnaroo. But on with the question. After staying up last night to see the lineup I was not excited to see Metallica and Kayne West headlining and also the price being about 230 with service charges and all. However I have heard about a little thing called Waka and I was wondering wether any of you guys have been there. I really would like to see the flaming lips and the ticket price is only 125 right now. What type of crowd is there, is it usually the same as the bonnaroo crowd? Just pretty much let me know what you think it does better or anything in general that would be a deciding factor in chosing between the Roo and Waka.

you would have a fantastic time there. it's really laid back - and their lineup is really fun this year - esp for the money, it's a great deal. lawrence is also a really cool town. all in all i think that if you like the bands there, you will have a killer time - good people, bands, organization, and other stuff to do ;D

I went to Waka last year and had the time of my life. Granted I have yet to go to Bonnaroo, but I will be attending Waka again. Check out the thread above, and if you have any other questions feel free to send me a PM.
If you want to see the lips they are playing Summer Camp which is Moe's festival and it is much more laid back as far as security goes then Waka. I was at the first Waka and it was ok but I know it is getting much bigger now. The security issue was a problem though. Even in that first year the state police were driving around the campgrounds in 4 wheelers the whole weekend busting everyone.
Summercamp right now has the following artists and tickets are $95:
Lips Moe Umphrey's Mcgee The Avett Brothers Cornmeal Groovatron Family Groove Project 56 Hope Road
Oh dang Summer Camp looks pretty nice and it's a lot closer to me. I might even be able to make it to that and the roo. So the atmosphere is a lot laid back there huh. That's good. Has anyone else been there and what do you think about it?

I'm probably going to waka instead of rothbury or bonnaroo this year. Yep, I've come out and said it--now I'm committed. I just prefer both the lineup and the price, to either of the others. Hope the law enforcement presence isn't too bad

^ Didn't have any problems last year with law enforcement. Glad you are making the trip to Kansas this year. There is no doubt you will have an unbelievable time.
