i will probably be at hookahville... i might go to the ledges instead. nelson ledges is the greatest venue on earth. its just perfect in every way.... anyhow heres the website...
i was going to PM you, but i figured that i would bring it out into the open. Ok Nelsons Ledge... looks like they have tons of music festivals during the summer. Is there like a really big main festival... or is it just like Gratefulfest, Spring Hookah/BlossomBlast, etc?

I think it was a thread on "the bort" not sure I've poked around a lot the last few weeks looking for info on this fest after I heard about it intially! then today the line up was miraculously announced I feel like a nerd I already joined their myspace page since they don't have a message board...that's me with Towelly )

gratefulfest is the biggest. and summer hookah is good sized too. alot of the rest of the are smaller. id say a around 4-5000 for gratefulfest. and some of the smaller ones are only a few hundered. but gratefulfest is by far the biggest one.
EDIT--- oh and gory at the quarry is big too... even though its halloween weekend and the weather sux there is always a couple thousand people.
dont let the small numbers scare ya away though. i like it better. it really is a community. ya see the same people all the time instead of raging and then disappearing off into tens of thousands of people never to be seen again, i love the small fest feel.

Yep. I'm a Facebook fan already (the 11th one actually). Can't get on Myspace at work, but its top priority when I get home
i have two exams tomorrow [my profs are love haters apparently] and i cant study. argh
As if Business Law is difficult at all...
Since I live in Michigan and have been struggling to find a festival this summer that's "Can't Miss," I think it's safe to say I'll be there this July.

like I said before if would go to Iraq if this festival was there. I have never seen a more enticing lineup in my life. As far as people concern for security, I would expect it to be on par with roo's maybe a little less tighter, who knows, I wouldnt worry about it though!
I was thinking about doing VIP becuase the price isnt too bad but.... for one the fest will be less than half the size of roo so waiting in line wont be as much of and issuue, second there is so much sweet music jam packed in the fest that I dont think I'll leave the stage area let alone get an ounce of sleep. I prob. will only be at my camp to eat and change cloths then back to the music. Y go VIP if you wont even be at your camp?

i just worry about the first festival chaos. i know the first year of bonnaroo, people sat in line for 12+ hours. i think i'd die if that happened.
edit:
the det news article says the place is 2000 acres. bonnaroo is 700. so it could hold a bonnaroo sized crowd obviously. are there only 40k tickets or is tha tjust the amount they expect to sell? if they promoted this thing a tad better, i could see them selling more than 40k

i think we waited alost that long in 04 at roo. and gathering of the vibes was bad too. but it was nothing a few cds, a case of beer and some funny cigarettes couldnt make all better.

wondering if they have set capacity at a max of 40,000...i did read in an original article released to the newspaper there will be 3 entrances.......
this was the original article I saw a couple weeks ago: Early festival plans unveiled at meeting
“This (event) will focus national attention on Rothbury
ROTHBURY - The lineup of bands has yet to be announced. The exact details have yet to be set in stone. The total impact of the event on the community, both financially and logistically, has yet to be fully tabulated.
Nevertheless, residents from the Rothbury area, as well as Oceana County law enforcement, emergency and fire officials, crowded the Grant Township Hall Thursday night expecting to learn more about a proposed Fourth of July weekend music event on the grounds of the Double JJ Ranch and Resort.
And while completed plans are still at least a month away, those attending did get a taste of the size and scope the event — tentatively titled Festival X — is expected to take if the township grants the go ahead on the project.
A special public meeting is scheduled at the township hall Tuesday, Feb. 12, beginning at 7 p.m.
In a word, the event will be big; perhaps bigger than any concert event the area has ever seen.
“This (event) will focus national attention on Rothbury and Grant Township, Oceana County, West Michigan,” Double JJ owner Bob Lipsitz told the packed house at the start of the meeting.
“All the details have yet to be ironed out,” Lipsitz added a few moments later. “You got to bear with us tonight. Not all the pieces are in place.”
What is known is organizers expect to have a crowd of as many as 40,000 people descend on Double JJ property starting Thursday, July 3. Attendees would vacate the resort from late evening Sunday, July 6, through mid-afternoon Monday. Ticket prices will be upwards of $200, and on-site camping on over 300 acres will provide sleeping accommodations for the vast majority of concertgoers.
Ticket holders will take in music and workshops on six-plus stages scattered throughout the property, including a main stage that is tentatively to be located south of Big Wildcat Lake. Twelve miles of fencing will be used to enclose the entire event site, but contrary to some rumors, attendees will be able to come and go as they please. Hundreds of positions will be available to local job seekers, Lipsitz said.
Organizers said they hope to make this an annual event.
Madison House Productions, an industry leader in putting together events of this scale, will handle the production side, and representatives from the firm, Jeremy Stein, event director, and Richard Glasgow, event general manager, were at Thursday’s meeting to lay out as many details as possible.
Stein said the focus of the festival will be on climate change, and plans include an energy fair that will display solar panels, energy-efficient light bulbs and hybrid cars.
“The Core mission is to create as little trash as possible,” said Stein, who indicated the festival will employ Houston-based Waste Management Company to haul away the trash. “I give you my word,” Stein continued, “we will leave it as good or better than we found it. We have a long history of doing this.”
Stein said part of the ticket price would go toward creating a solar energy program at an as-of-yet unnamed local high school that would help offset the school’s energy costs. Stein said at least $50,000 would go toward that fund each year of the event, and a different school would be up for the donation every year.
An on-site farmers’ market, featuring local fruits and vegetables, will be offered, said Stein, and a Sunday morning bake sale could benefit local organizations. Stein also indicated the community could benefit from a land improvement fund, resulting from a surcharge on tickets, to repair local roads. Stein said repairing Water Road may be a good place to start.
The sheer volume of traffic into the area seemed to be the main concern at the meeting. Although it has yet to be finalized, the tentative traffic plan would utilize three highway exits, at Stony Lake, Winston and Fruitvale roads, to handle the influx of vehicles, and the concert site will have two entry points on Water Road.
Both entrances, north of Winston Rd. and at Cleveland Rd., will spill into a 20-lane configuration, allowing event and security staff to process cars at a rate of 1,200 per hour. If cars begin jamming up the highway, officers handling the traffic will begin routing cars through the Fruitvale Road exit and then up several rural roads to Winston Road, said Lt. David Roesler of the Michigan State Police-Grand Haven Post.
There will be foot traffic across Water Road, Glasgow said, but no roads will be closed. Water Road residents will be encouraged to use utility roads on Cleveland, Clay and Wilke, which will be open especially for the event. Glasgow said a traffic engineering firm will be working with the Michigan Department of Transportation and Michigan State Police officials to solidify the traffic plan. Parking will not be allowed except on the festival grounds, Glasgow said.
Local and state services will be tested, said Roesler, and the various agencies must all work in conjunction to pull off the event. Roesler received word Thursday that the state police will be able to provide as many troopers as need to provide an adequate amount of safety. “(The state police) will make it happen,” Roesler said.
Jail space will also be an issue, said Oceana County Sheriff Ken Prince. Prince indicated the already busy Fourth of July weekend will make county cells scarce, although space in surrounding counties, some as many as two or three counties away, could be used.
Prince has contacted police officials in Manchester, Tenn., site of the Bonnaroo Music Festival, which attracts as many as 80,000 concert goers. There area about 40-60 arrests per day at Bonnaroo, and some 190 officers are used to secure the event. Prince said is was possible the Double JJ event could have between 30-50 arrests per day, and 100-110 officers may be needed.
Additional local fire and ambulance service will be needed. Grant Township Fire Chief Roland Brooks said additional help from the Shelby-Benona and Montague fire departments could be used, and other county fire services could be shifted to cover any other areas.
“It will not take away from our regular duties,” Brooks said of the event. Fire officials from Norton Shores, which helped serve the now-defunct Muskegon Air Fair, will provide assistance on a fire plan. Oceana EMS Director Lance Corey said he has been in contact with regional ambulance services, and they indicated they could provide additional ambulance service. Organizers said there will be an on-site hospital to treat injured or ill concert goers.
Grant Township Attorney Rodger Sweeting recommended the township obtain a performance bond with the production company in case the whole enterprise goes belly up. Lipsitz recommended developing an agreement between concert producers and the township, allowing for more flexibility as to the event’s final price tag.
That, as well as ironing out the final details and obtaining public input on the event, will be on tap at the Feb. 12 special meetings.
Before then, “Everyone has some work to do,” said township Supervisor David Woller.
"If the sight of the blue skies fills you with joy, if a blade of grass springing up in the fields has the power to move you, if the simple things in nature have a message you understand, Rejoice, for your soul is alive."
i love that this is back to back with all good!!! and hopefully i can swing camp bisco the next weekend and 10klf the weekend after that.... but thats a dream that probably wont come true.
bonnaroo still has the deal-breakers for me with Sigur Ros, !!!, Ladytron, my morning jacket, BB King, and Ben Folds.
If I were able to take off work 4th of july weekend, then I would at least consider going to rothbury. I could ask John Mayer if this borat swimsuit is really comfortable.
