i see everyones points. cuz everyone makes really good ones. both have great amazing lineups. but for different reasons and different people. im intrigiued by a new fest. its interesting to me. but does it mean im gonna go? dunno yet - maybe wont go to either and hit just smaller fests this summer. im finding its what i like bettar anyhew. but yeah, people on both sides of the arguement make excellent points ;D
hmmm... first year of a new fest rivaling roo. could we have a keller williams incident vs karl denson latenight??? that would be a nice little slap to the face of superfly.

Rothbury is watered down Bonnaroo for more $$. If anything the overwhelming excitement for that lineup just further underlines the overall watered down nature of the festival scene at the moment...
You mean watered down like the last 4 or 5 Metallica albums? That's what I thought!

what if superfly really came out and was like... 'YA SO WE ARE ACTUALLY THE CREATORS OF THIS FESTIVAL... SORRY ABOUT THAT WHOLE BONNAROO NE THING...'
i would think about not going to avoid giving money to superfly. but only for a second. somethings are too good to miss. kinda like the prices at walmart. i dont like the corporation but damn that sh!t is cheap and its right up the road.

You mean watered down like every DMB album since Before These Crowded Streets? Or 3/4ths of John Mayers discography? Or Snoop Dogg's post Death Row career? Or 311's output since their first couple albums? ;D
speaking of superfly and other fests i thought for sure that superfly would have announced more fests on the farm this year. and probably a return to the old with a fest like the oldskool roo lineups. they probably will but wanna suck as any people into roo before doing so.

You do realize the Rothbury promoters are bigger than AC/Superfly don't you?

hahaha... nice... ya 311 is playing the same setlist(plus or minus 1 - 2 songs) that they played back in the late 90's..... at least DMB is trying to progress... John Mayer is progressing... Snoop Dogg stopped smoking weed for about 3 days, some would call that progression...
all that being said, i like each one of these bands...

i cant argue with that. but dave puts on a killer show.... imo. i loved both roo shows. the guests were amazing and the shows were stellar. hopefully they will add page. and when trey comes out to guest with dave we will all know that phish is on the property! of course its unnanounced people! 150,000 people would show up for phish and sci reunions. but thats whats gonna happen seriously... its possible.
as for the rest of the bands you listed ill be seeing something else while they play so it dosent much matter. but i bet snoop would be fun though. just for the nostalgia. but i sure i will be elsewhere.

This has probably been brought up already, but doesn't Rothbury's lineup look just like Bonnaroo 2005 part two. Thats the first thing I noticed when I looked their lineup. Rothbury's lineup does very little for me so I'll be at 'Roo this year.

Honestly, this was my exact thought.
And don't get me wrong, John Mayer and DMB and Snoop are all acts that I wouldn't mind catching. But they are all acts that tour constantly and don't really change that much (Mayer when he wants to can and does put on a great show).
For me, festivals have to be special to get me to go. I live in Austin, and I barely ever go to ACL because frankly, they don't often offer bands that I can't see at a club for less money and pain. Bonnaroo and a handful of other fests actually do deliver lineups that you're just not going to get other places. Metallica, Chris Rock and Kanye West playing a festival with Phil Lesh, Bela Fleck and Robert Randolph? Wille Nelson, B.B. King and Robert Plant playing a festival with Broken Social Scene, Battles and Death Cab for Cutie? I mean, what other festival exists Stateside where you might have a conflict between Levon Helm and Sigur Ros?
That's why I go with Bonnaroo. Because at the end of the day, every act at Rothbury is going to play Austin one time or another.
The following list is why I am going and i feel exemplifies why I'm not going to bonnaroo
Phil Primus Snoop Theivery Corp! STS9 Biscuits MMW Of Montreal Mike Gordon Crystal Method!! GreyBoy Allstars Lotus EOTO Panjea w/ Kang! Bassnectar Pnuma Trio DIPLO! The Juan Mclean Motion Potion
it really just matters on personal preference. bonnaroo is changing every year and we all know it at this point. i personally prefer the rothbury lineup because it has a lot of my personal favorites. but it seems rothbury is the answer to everyone that disliked bonnaroo's diverse schedule this year.
primus is one of my all time favorite bands, and since les is yet to be making an appearance at the roo this year, i am just naturally attracted to michigan over tennesse. i also have a thing for Dave, Medeski Martin and Wood, and Disco Biscuits. not to mention jon fishman and mike gordon will be there. roo has its perks too....namely my morning jacket....but i know that when my main roo attraction this year (phil lesh) will also be at rothbury, its just a natural decision.
i am still waiting patiently for the roo additions though, and hell if my finances are in place i just might do both!!

There are only three acts in the Bonnaroo lineup that are must sees for you? Wow. It's funny how someone who doesn't like jambands favors the jamband heavy lineup.
I don't really think so: DMB 311 Primus Thievery Corporation Snoop Dogg STS9 Keller Williams Gogol Bordello Medeski Martin and Wood Crystal Method
Out of those 10, only 2 - DMB & Keller - are really jammie... maybe 4 if you stretch it a bit to include Primus and STS9. To be perfectly honest, Widespread Panic, Phil Lesh and Disco Biscuits are on my Really Don't Care list.
[edit] Oh, and just to satisfy anyone's curiosity, here's my Bonnaroo Must Sees: Sigur Ros Gogol Bordello Ben Folds

This thread really surprises me. Sure the Rothbury line-up looks great, but overall I think Roo's is still better, and has more potential to be better. I can't see Rothbury adding many other great acts, but can totally see Roo adding a couple.
I like both line-ups for different reasons, but I saw a lot of Roth acts last year, and have never seen anyone like BB King.
With Roo I know what I'm getting, but with Roth I'm not sure about late nights or extended set lists. With Roth having roughly 20-30 acts less than Roo I can't see how they can pull off having late nights, especially considering they have 8 stages.
Anyways I voted both. I've been looking forward to Roo since I left the farm last year, and am really excited with the line-up. If they just add one more band I like (ie Mars Volta) it'll be perfect for me. I'm gonna try to get early birds for Roth and if I do I think I'll head there too. Although I'm not 100% on another right now, except that I'm gonna have a great summer!

!!! and Derek Trucks are high on my Like to See list. Little Feat... not so much. But definitely not one of my Really Don't Cares .
