i know this is the wrong forum for this stuff, but there's more traffic and i need an answer fairly quickly...
brett dennen is playing at sxsw, and i really really really really want to see him, but i'm not paying for a ticket to the entire festival. is there a way to get a ticket to individual shows or venues? or are you required to have a ticket to the festival itself?
Used to (almost 2 decades ago) be able to go the individual shows by calling the venue and getting tix. SXSW was much smaller then so that may have changed. Call the venue and ask.
You don't have to have a ticket (there actually aren't tickets, only wristbands and badges). If you show up to the venue early enough, there is a chance you can pay cash to get in. That's dependent upon the number of wristband and badgeholders that show up, though...in other words, space permitting.
You actually have a decent chance of getting in if you get there early enough. A friend who is a SXSW veteran and volunteers the fest said the key is getting in line early -- there are a lot of industry folks who try to make the entire circuit every night and, as they leave, more people are let in.

i'm just too much of a planner to do that. i suck, i know. i just don't want to go all the way downtown, deal with the madness of traffic that sxsw brings, only to find out i can't get in
Weird...got an earlier message this thread was locked.
If you have a wristband, you are reasonably assured of getting in to most shows. The exception would be private parties and/or shows requiring a badge or laminate. Badges are priority, then wristbands, then general public (space permitting)
Please don't pay more than $165! I think you might still be able to buy them from SXSW, too.
