Go to Roo and spend $270, or go to City Stages and see these bands and spend $50.
Although, there's no way The Flaming Lips are going to pull out all the stops in the middle of Lynn Park. I seriously doubt it. I also wonder what kind of fans this lineup is going to draw. City Stages usually draws older people and more of the country/hip-hop crowd...I can imagine a lot of people going, "What the heck is a flaming lip?"

Exactly...I mean imagine the typical City Stages attendee at a full-on UFO show, confetti, alien girls, lasers and all. Is that really going to fly in downtown Birmingham?
Although, the prospect of getting to see the FLips in my hometown is VERY enticing.
me and my camp will be packing up and coming home on sunday for this. the also have the roots on friday and ben and the innocent crininals on saturday...its gonna be cool. as far a bamadancers comment....spaceship or no, wayne and the guys in linn park is going to be sweet!!!!! two flips shows in a year and a day...now thats a good feeling.

Michael Franti and Spearhead play right before The Flaming Lips. I think Franti starts at 8 and FLips starts at 9:45. I'm thinking about going. But I'd have to leave out at like 2pm to make it there in time to get a great spot. I imagine it's a 4 hour drive from Bonnaroo to BHam and getting there 2 hours early should ensure a good spot.

so ive been at stages all weekend. friday night we saw galactic with chali 2na and the roots. stellar sets from both....no masters of war. saturday was the first full day in which i started with blind melon, who in fact were nothing short of awesome. later in the day brought n.m.a.. they were a lot of fun lotsa dancing with fellow bonnapeeps. And then, Mr. Harper. I hate to say it, but his set here was a little better than last years roo set(minus ziggy and jpj of course). im on my way back to catch toubab, the wailers, spearhead and the flips..ill report back soon. in the mean time i have pix online at www.myspace.com/thecantina

Spearhead and the Flips rocked! I don't have a set list. But they opened with RFTP (as per usual) and closed with Do You Realize. They covered Zep's "The Song Remains the Same." I was sad that they didn't do Waiting for a Superman. They did do Mountainslide, though. I'd prefer the former over the latter. They shot out a thousand quacking glowsticks and Wayne wanted everybody to throw them at him during Vein of Stars.
i have to agree with e.k.....spearhead was absolutley beautiful.....the played sweet little lies, yell fire, hello bonjour as well a ton of others. Flips were impressive as always...it was fun to look around at all the people who had no idea what was going on....lol it was truly amazing

My only criticism about the show is that the set wasn't that much different from Bonnaroo--minus a UFO and plus an awesome Zeppelin cover. He even used some of the same rants and jokes between songs. Nevertheless, it was a great time, and really cool knowing it was a year to the day since I saw Michael Franti & Spearhead at Bonnaroo (and 365 days including leap year since I saw FLips at Bonnaroo).
