Pros and cons of tonight's Courtney Barnett/Bully show:
Pros:
Bully
Courtney Barnett
Cons:
Not being able to find Decaanter and his two significantly taller friends inside the venue and thus being robbed of an ideal hand holding opportunity during "Depreston"
Duuude I tried. I made it about fifteen feet further in than I usually do. I just had to wait for those guys to use the restroom, then I finagled my way in since I'm relatively little. I made it to your original spot. Also I'm like 90% I made eye contact with you after you were raising your hand, but at that part of the show, there was no fucking way I was going to make it to where you were. It was PACKED in there. We danced ourselves plenty of room though.
I'll hold your hand some day.
It's funny - I arrived right in front of the sound board as soon as you texted me and thought "Oh, shit". The only reason I kept going that far was because I thought you were actually closer up to the stage. But oh well. At least we had .01 seconds of eye contact.
Hip hop shows are usually hit or miss for me, but Freddie Gibbs last night was fire. Crowd was very small but very into it. DJ was on point and the Shadow of a Doubt tracks sound great live. It was a $22 show that was easily worth double.

Saw Modest Mouse last night at the BEAUTIFUL Alabama Theatre. Wonderful show with a kickass setlist. The Districts opened and were dope. So much energy. Met Isaac Brock after the show and he signed my Modest Mouse shirt. Pretty cool. We had a discussion about Zaxby's.

Alabama Theater is a great venue, I can only imagine how good MM would be there.
As no surprise to anyone, White Denim fucking brought it last night. Goddamn, they barely came up for air. Such an intense performance. Love those guys. The replacement drummer and guitarist fill in really nicely. Also the new guitarist looks like a biologically average Andre the Giant and was so happy to be here. Great night.

Saw Consider the Source last week. Incredible performers, as expected. Ended up getting about 2 hours worth. They came out for a second encore because the crowd just wouldnt leave So excited to see them later this year. Really hoping either Catskill Chill or Lunalight have them do the Radiohead set they were mentioning.
DFA1979 and EODM were really fun last night. Still not big into EODM but they put on a good show and the crowd dug it. DFA fuckin killed it tho, and the pit was wild.
Just got back from Kamasi and it was fucking great. I'm sure they'll wind up with some crappy afternoon spot at the roo, which is really sad considering the talent and energy the group brought tonight. If you didn't have plans to see them then I'd highly recommend changing your plans.

5:30 in This Tent on Friday. It's not a bad spot. Like you, I assumed worse. The issue lies in that he conflicts with FIDLAR and Shamir. Tough choices.
Yo...Floating Points was beyond words this weekend
live set?
Yup, tours with drummer, two six strings, a bassist (midi-keyboard operator), and him on organs, keys, all that other fun stuff.
Amazing. The crescendos of songs came crashing through at an exhilarating pace. The art was beautiful. Seamless blend in between songs. If he's coming around, definitely see him. The lady friend and I were up front and center and it was by far the best show I've seen this year.

Oh shit, they do a Radiohead set??? Wow, that has to be intense. I saw these guys one time locally a few years ago with a small crowd and they blew everyone away.
Just slipping it in for the record. Kevin Gates' people got into it with some of Boosie Badazz's people. Haha. Glad the 225 kept the guns in their waistbands.
Lauren Hill last night. Wow. Yes she was about 30 min late but still played for 2 hours and it was worth every minute she was late. Its going to be awhile before anything comes close to that show.

I'm going to go ahead and say that nothing will top last night's Lauryn Hill show. Unreal. The setlist was varied, all the solo stuff, some Fugees, definitely some stuff I didn't recognize because she had reimagined a lot of it and just let the band (who was tight) play it out, and great Marley covers and a life changing Nina Simone Feeling Good that was probably worth the price of the ticket right there. Her voice is just as good as ever. She is in a class all her own.
Go see her if you can or haven't yet and are even a casual fan.

The roo show was that good. I would be hesitant to go to one of her shows because of the price and the chance that you may not get a full show. But I know it's a risk that does pay off when she does show up.

The Roo show was my favorite of that year but the one last night blew that one out of the water. I think being inside a venue helped and her voice lit that place up. It didnt feel rushed like her Roo show did. Agreed it was a risk but well worth the gamble
Beats Antique was the bomb last night. They played with a multi-instrumentalist (clarinet, baritone sax, etc.) and toward the end the Preservation Hall Brass came out and played 2 or 3 songs with them. That shit ruled. Explosions in the Sky tonight baby!!!!

Saw Billy Joel last night here in San Diego and it was great!!! A little weird as in everyone was sitting for most of the show and I love to dance but it's ok as we got to dance for the last 20-30 mins so it all worked out!! My husband and I had watched the YouTube of him from roo last year and oh man!! That must have been a treat!!!!! But still glad I was able to see him last night as he got tickets last min from a neighbor who's friends couldn't go anymore! So much fun!!

alright, brief overview of my past shows. saw animal collective last weekend in atlanta, such an awesome show. the lights were awesome, their whole stage set-up was dope, and everyone there was pretty chill. they sounded great, just like i've always anticipated. alvin row sounded freaking ethereal live. so rad. i even got to bump into them after the show; such sweet guys. (i also asked noah lennox if he knew the song panda by desiigner. he does not. )
last night, i saw joywave, foals, and silversun pickups at the ryman. a steal for $30 tickets, really. joywave was a great surprise. really enjoyed their set, and knew more songs of theirs than i had anticipated. really fun. foals was great! i think the venue was a little off-putting, though. trying to crowdsurf in an old church wasn't exactly working out, so yannis would just run through the crowd and sing to people. pretty amusing. silversun pickups were decent. not a big fan of their music, and they would not stop playing. seriously. seemed like their set lasted forever. i waited a bit after the show to see if i could talk to any of foals. met them all. jimmy was hilarious, and yannis was so sweet. anyway, if any hangout people are reading this for some reason, don't be stupid. loltoolateyou'reathangout go to foals' set. you do not want to miss it.

I helped promote a college festival at Virginia Tech about two months ago, Consider the Source was our headliner....and the biggest group the fest has ever had. They were awesome...I was disappointed with the crowd for their set, but oh well. They started doing Radiohead sets regularly like two weeks after our festival. Would love to see how they pull that together.
My girlfriend is a big Grimes fan so we went to the Florence + Grimes show at the Austin360 Amphitheater last night. There were threats of thunderstorms and it was supposed to be rain but neither happened. Grimes was cool, she had an awesome production set up and she sounded good. She's very interesting. Very odd, but in a great way. Definitely need to catch her at a smaller intimate venue. Florence was amazing. Those pipes! She can sure sing. There were times when she sounded like a full choir even though it was just her and a few backup vocalists. The band was great too. Saw her at ACL Fest in 2012 but it was nice to see her doing a headlining set, she deserves it so much, really one of the most talented women in the music world. Catch both if you can!!
Head Wound City was perfect. Savages was perfect. Nick Zinner and Cody Votolato coming out during the encore to perform "Fuckers" with Savages was double perfect. What a great night.
