Bonobo live show was amazing last night. Songs sounded much better live. Make sure you catch it if you can.
I thought the Coachella set was awesome but got ganged up on as people think that style is boring. Maybe to some, but it sounds pretty sweet. I ended up going out at about 12:30 to see Manic Focus. I saw him when it was a DJ thing, but this was like a 6 piece with him at DJ, Marvel Years on Drums, Khris Royal on Sax, Russ Liquid on trumpet, Borahm Lee on keys and guitar/bass. Nice way to start Jazz Fest, but we were out late. Trey Band, Nas and moe. today, so shit is off to the races.
I ended up going with my daughter who had gotten a free ticket from Damoss at work. When I ran into his ass and introduced them she was like damn, that's the dude that gave me the free ticket. Small ass world.
Fuck Yes! They were so good, definitely outdid the Black Angels. And I loved every single second of The Black Angels set.
This is exactly my take on it. The Black Angels were great. I would actually venture that the new songs all sounded better live than they did on the record. In particular, Life Song was their main set closer and was pretty boss. That being said, I probably didn't get into it as much because I was still wrapping my head around what just happened with APTBS. If you go see them, try to get toward the front. I was close enough to where the stage took up my whole field of vision and those lights were a lot, and I was completely sober. Deeper is not my favorite song of theirs, but the live version was crazy. I mentioned on Facebook how they had signs up warning about the use of "heavy strobe". They definitely meant that track. When that song hits, the lights went to just the big strobe center stage. The stage was super bright then completely dark. For a bit, it was like the music, the band and the strobe were at three different tempos, and I about lost my shit.
For those interested in another viewpoint, Radius Claus didn't make it for APTBS, but he was pretty impressed with Black Angels. Specifically, he repeatedly mentioned how great their light show was.

APTBS made my jaw drop at points, one of the best shows I've seen in a while.
And I totally agree about new Black Angels stuff sounding better live.
side note: Dad Dog let this serve as notice you need to make that show happen when they come your way.
Quack yes. Seen them twice already (lost a dope spot at the Postal Service to see the first time). So much energy, so much strobe, so much feedback. Glad to know you enjoyed.
Edit: I was still able to see Postal Service, don't want people thinking I skipped that entirely, just lost my closer spot leaning against a tree.

The lights are a separate entity and you might be able to catch them at another show/event once this tours over.
Yeah. I have had to listen to Rothric talk them up more than once. Radius was unaware of this and was confused at the beginning because he thought they would just have a standard light show.
Edit: Oh yeah. There were a couple of songs that APTBS played that I did not recognize, and every video/setlist of their recent shows has a couple songs listed as unknown or has a placeholder title. This means I feel confident saying they're playing new songs.
I know they've gotten mixed reviews on here, but saw RHCP in Miami last night. They played a pretty tight, solid show. Plus, it was nice to see them play different songs each night on their Florida run. Their light show was pretty amazing with about 200-300 LED lamps that hung over the floor and were sequenced to each song. Honestly was happy I wasn't on the floor for once.
STS9 Axe the Cables at the Joy Theater was the best show I've seen in a couple of years. It was spectacular, and the only thing missing (as per JF thread) was Baraka to make it all time Top 5 for me. It's going to be tough to top this year. Also, the moe. show #2 on Friday was also pretty incredible. Everyone I went with was floored at how good it was. Tribe on Saturday was also good, but it was more or less just a typical set.
Anyone who has seen The xx on this recent tour, or at all, that can clue me in to all the different instruments Jamie has in his set up? Believe it or not, I actually need to write a paper about it.
Saw Tycho on Monday. Stellar show. Floor to ceiling projections, great show for someone who just wants to close their eyes and dance. Opener Beacon was also fantastic. Like a spacier, male Sylvan Esso.

I don't think he had really had much, but I caught two Pioneer CDJs, his live drum setup (which I think was mostly two toms?), a drum machine, and a cymbal? I think there was other percussion but I can't recall what it was.
Slowdive was very good last night. Great visuals, great sound, even for the new songs! Perhaps oddly, the only song that wasn't quite on par was "Sugar for the Pill".
Japanese Breakfast was also very good - they have a new album coming out this summer apparently, so they played more than a few new songs. The highlight was the final one where Michelle Zauner sang about "a woman being in love with a robot" and used really heavy Auto-Tune on the choruses.

Hope this helps. Saw it on /r/synthesizers the other day.
I'm in one of those moments where I realize how grateful I am that I live in New York for the last few years.
I've just completed a 4-night-in-a-row concert marathon. I'm about to say farewell to my twenties soon (in ten days, to be specific), and before then, I wanted to go crazy and attend as many concerts as I can. For this purpose, few weeks ago, I planned a 4-night-marathon for next week. And initially, I had no intention to do anything like that for the past week, although there were some concerts I wanted to go. However, my plans changed suddenly last Tuesday.
Last week, I came across that Pitchfork documentary about the evolution of French electronic music, and at the last part of it, few up-and-coming musicians/DJs were introduced, namely Superpoze, Jacque, and Fakear. I checked them, liked Superpoze & Jacque, immediately looked up if they had any upcoming shows in NYC. Superpoze had a show in Mercury Lounge last Tuesday, just for $10, and of course I bought a ticket right away. Apparently it was his first show in NYC, and he was very excited. It was a live show, and he played for ~70 minutes. It was a good show, and especially few songs sounded great.
The same Tuesday, before the concert, as I was bored, I was looking if there were any tickets to sold-out Tycho show on Thursday (yesterday). AXS sometimes randomly releases tickets a day or two before the concert date, and knowing this, I tried, and luckily found a ticket. After debating with myself for a minute or two, I went ahead and purchased it. With the excitement of that moment, I immediately got ticket for tonight's Penguin Cafe & Rival Consoles show.
I saw the end of Tycho set last December at Day for Night, liked what I saw, and after watching their Coachella stream, I was expecting a good show. And they delivered with an almost two hour, really loud (even though I had ear plugs) show. Their visuals were also spectacular, in harmony with whatever song they were playing at that moment.
Tonight's show was Penguin Cafe with Rival Consoles as the opener. I was not sure if I wanted to see PC live, but after Rival Consoles was added to the show, I jumped on it. PC released their album today, and they played it in full. But, to be honest, I liked Rival Consoles more. Although there were a couple of technical problems, he played an amazing set. The funny part is probably most of the people were there for PC, and venue was 3/4 seated with the rest (including myself) standing behind tables. I danced throughout the set, but I believe it was not the optimum venue for him. I'd definitely like to see him again playing a longer set.
And finally, last Wednesday, which was one of the best I've seen this year. Great Ryan Adams. At the fantastic Beacon Theatre. I've seen him a few years ago at Gov Ball, but I remember I didn't appreciate it that much probably because I was super tired. But Prisoner is one of my favorites this year, and I decided that I should see him live one more time. The tickets were a little on the expensive side, so even though I came across some official tickets at Ticketmaster after it sold out, I didn't buy it. I checked Stubhub all week, and on Wednesday around 5 pm, I found a ticket for $30, couldn't hold myself, and went for it. I'm glad I did it, because the show was amazing. The venue is great itself with the acoustics and such, but more importantly, those Prisoner songs sounded exactly as I imagined they would. He delivered a two hour set with 23 songs (no encores). Best show of this week for sure.
I'm excited about next week - I'll be seeing Slowdive, Forest Swords, Father John Misty, and Colin Stetson. If I have any energy left, I might go to Ben UFO show late Friday night. Not sure yet.
TL;DR: I love music and I love live music. That's all.

Happy slightly early 30th Fred! I celebrated the 20th anniversary of my first concert this past week with a free Kentucky Derby Festival show by Kurtis Blow/Sugarhill Gang in Louisville. Last night I went to see my 7th Pixies show (since 2004, previous one was in 2015) and this coming Wednesday will be headed to Indianapolis to see Soundgarden for the first time. All have been really good so far and only thing that concerns me is weather forecast for Wednesday since it is outdoors and possibility of a thunderstorm that evening. I'm sure the show will be cool though especially since they were one of the 3 groups that really made me a music lover back in '94 and the last of those 3 I haven't seen live before.

Thank you very much! I've seen Pixies once before last year two years ago at Boston Calling, and it was a very good show. Hope it doesn't rain much and you can enjoy the show.

1 box I can't make out - I don't believe it's a pedal - sound modifier of some kind
Black channel box controls output for samplers, and maybe something else Other control box is for XLR mains
Looks like he has that mixer hooked up to a sound board output outside of the pic. I am surprised he is using that mixer during those shows. Cool pic and project
Saw Sturgill this past Saturday at The Wharf in Orange Beach. Not a huge crowd but enthusiastic. The crowd was one part music nerd, one part fratty Panic fan, one part the same crowd who will be at the Eric Church show later this summer. Everybody enjoyed themselves.
This was my first time seeing Sturgill. Just a four piece band this go round but with a big sound. Lots of short little jams and reworking of certain songs. It was a hell of a good time, and a rocking show.
Margo Price opened and she was great, I'm going to have to give her studio stuff a listen.

I really want to see him when he comes near me, but the tickets are pretty expensive and not too many of my friends enjoy him as much as I do. Seeing these good reviews is making the FOMO worse though lol.

Was at that one as well. Guy can play the hell out of the guitar. Much better set than at Sloss a couple of years ago, although that set is what turned me into a fan. I love his songwriting and a lot of it hits home for me personally. Can't wait to see him again at Sloss this year.
Seen Justin Towns Earle solo in January, much different experience compared to last night having The Sadies backing. Played all my favorite hits, and it seemed like the crowd was digging the new stuff for his upcoming album.
Paying for the late night at work today. Totally worth it.
Phoenix last night in the Ryman was a damn good show. I have to echo what I read from Shaky Knees thread that their production was top notch. The LED floor was a cool touch. The new stuff played well with Rolemodel seeming to be the best I heard. Their hits still scorched the dance floor, sunskrupt( sunset and bankrupt mash up) was well done.
Seen Phoenix three times before and I have to say this is the most impressed I have left their show.
