Do they have someone that fills in for Left Eye or is it just the two of them now?
Just the two of them. They had a live band + DJ and a bunch of dancers. When they were in the stage they were good but had random moments during the show where the DJ would just start playing songs and everyone would leave the stage which was weird. He started playing Souja Boy and Swag Surf in the middle of the show.
I would have cut that little break for their costume change. After that the show picked up.
Lol I didn't realize that was during the POD show, the local news left that part out and I just figured it was a normal night at Zydeco, that place is kind of a shithole

I know there was some concern about these initial shows back having everyone holding their phones up the entire time because they've been starved of Instagram content for so long, but I fortunately haven't had that be the case at all. In fact, Lucy Dacus the other night was one of the most respectful crowds I've ever been in. Absolute silence during songs like "Thumbs", without any unnecessary cheering during quiet moments. Hard to see that happening at larger venues, though.
Also caught Sylvan Esso recently, who I didn't properly get into until this past year. A bit heavy on the new stuff, but a fun show nonetheless.
October is where shows really kick back into full gear for me. PJ, Wilco/Faye Webster, Soccer Mommy, Bat for Lashes to name a few.

St Vincent at the hollywood bowl was fantastic. I didn't care for the latest album as much, but it's really great when performed live and her new band and backup singers were lovely. hearing new arrangements of songs is always a treat during each persona and phase Annie goes through but backup singers for Cheerleader made the song much better.
Spoon was as fun as ever as the opener and even though I've never heard of Mereba before, she was also great as the first opener.
this was also my first non-festival show back since February of 2020 so it was nice to be back at a proper venue again.

Wow its so nice to have concerts again! I really blocked the idea of going to shows out of my mind for the past year and a half to the point where I was unsure if I even cared any more. I don't think I'll be as adamant as going to every single show possible like I was in the past but I'm really savoring the shows I've been attending.
Arooj Aftab last night was fantastic, a very low-key set but she sounded great and her backing band was excellent. At one of my favorite venues too, Holocene.
First show back was Tame Impala a few weeks ago. 16th time seeing them (so a very appropriate welcome back to live shows), but first time seeing the floating ring. Slow Rush tunes sounded great but the real treat was Runway Houses City Clouds and, as always, Apocolypse Dreams.

Dr. Dog. Man oh man. If you have the chance to go to one of the Last Tour shows, I recommend it. They sound amazing, the energy is on point. And you might get lucky and end up meeting an Inforooer you have never met before because you start commiserating with your neighbor about canceled shows and festivals and realize you were both packed for Bonnaroo and find out that you are both on the board. Nice to have met you jongilbert! Had a great time whooping it up at the show with you!
We're all a mess of paradoxes. Believing in things we know can't be true. We walk around carrying feelings too complicated and contradictory to express. But when it all becomes too big, and words aren't enough to help get it all out, there's always music.

Got to attend the Rolling Stones tour opener in St. Louis last night. Last saw them in 2015 but they are still every bit as good as they always have been in 15 years I have attending. Amazing they can still keep up the energy and perform the way they do!
Charli was amazing tonight. So was Tkay Maidza, gotta thank Jake Jortles for recommending her last year.
god i am so excited for her nyc show. bit of a bummer her only non hifn songs are vroom vroom and good ones though. Would have loved to see something like Official tossed into the encore

Yeah I hope she plays more than 13 songs on Friday, but if not, it's at least a terrific setlist! It'll be my first Charli show where I hopefully will love all the tracks!
Back-to-back shows at the Hollywood Bowl this weekend - James Blake with the orchestra was very nice if slightly underwhelming. Think I preferred his 2019 show at the Fox Pomona. Herbie Hancock the next night was pretty good! And Esperanza Spalding was something else. The crowds for both shows were impressively quiet as well.
not me but my niece, who is a freshman in college and my actual and musical godchild saw Tame last night in Atlanta. she had such a great time and loved the show. i'm so proud of her for driving to atlanta on a school night for a show.
not sure who the opener was but she said she hated them. she texted me she'd rather be standing in silence.
she was in the cheap seats but will definitely pay the extra for floors next time. it's so fun to see her starting to learn the joys of live music.

Think I've already said that but if you ever had even a passing interest in Rush and never got to see them (or wish you could see them again like me), go catch this Primus tour. This is your chance. Also Primus is killing it during their own set, great mix of deep cuts and the classics.

Opener is Sudan archives lol
probably just a case of her being inexperienced with live shows and hating waiting through an opener for the band she came to see. cause i'm listening to sudan archives now and this is tight.

In all fairness, SA probably isn’t the best artist to see if you’re not going to shows a ton. She can be rather challenging to people that like her.

I was there too! For my partner and I it was our first time seeing the Stones, and his first concert in two years. What a way to reenter into the live music scene! He was so moved that he bought his first ever concert t-shirt (he NEVER buys tour merch).
We also went with my parents. My dad was at their first show in St. Louis at Kiel Auditorium in 1966. He (jokingly, i think) said that he was ending his concert going career with this show, so he could say his first and his last concert was the Rolling Stones.

yeah i'm over here grooving to it but i have a good 22 years of general music fandom over my niece.
as a way to stay in touch we are sharing our most listened to monthly spotify playlists. next month mine will be littered with sudan archives songs lol.

One of my buddies did the production on the EP that’s incredible. I listen to that a lot. She’s also one of my most anticipated at Big Ears in March but hoping I can catch her again before that.

One of my first shows freshman year of college was Tame on the Innerspeaker tour, this story makes me so happy. I love that the kids are so into him.

Same for me! Chairlift at FYF 2012 was kind of a trainwreck - they couldn't get the timing right on their newest songs, so Caroline kept stopping to glare and yell at the band. Saw them again shortly before they broke up, and they were much better.
Got into the surprise Spoon show last night, which made me feel a lot better about not making it to their show at the Bowl with St. Vincent. Made me realize that, as awesome as it's been to see live music again, nothing beats a straight-up rock show in a loud, sweaty room. New songs sound like standard Spoon fare, which probably isn't a bad thing at this point in their career.
this is purely a subjective thing, not a knock against spoon at all, but they are that very unique band that i absolutely loved for a concentrated period of time then lost all interest in them.
i can't really explain it, i know spoon is a good band, i just don't enjoy listening to them anymore.
