Saw Allman Bros w/Chris Robinson and NEM. Chris etc were totally uninspired -- like they would have rather been anyplace but that stage. But Allmans tore it up, rocked out for 3+ hours, and gave us a great show. (Plus the outdoor venue wasn't even at capacity of 5000, so it was a very intimate show.)

Caught SCI in the midwest recently, incredibly sick shows-including a very hot show in Milwaukee at the Eagles Ballroom...
Most Recent- Umphreys Mcgee the past 2 nights at Navy Pier, Skyline Stage. The other night rocked, we got right up front. They played "superfreak" in memory of Rick James and "Hot For Teacher." Last night sucked. We didnt get there until second set (missed the acoustic set), we couldnt get in with fake tickets, we got all of our beer taken by mean cops
but we still had fun! ;D ;D Everyone in the Chicago area must be at the Aragon for Keller/Bela/YMSB!!!! its gonna be a party! ;D ;D
*bump* Yeah, so I got tickets to see The Shins at the Electric Factory in Philly on April 27th, then 4 days later Mars Volta, at the same place. Then 4 days later I leave for Seattle/Vegas/LA. What a time that will be. Also I'm traveling to Norfolk,VA this weekend to see Queens of the Stone Age and The Eagles of Death Metal. Hopefully Dave Grohl shows up(fingers crossed).

Saw Cyro Baptista & Beat the Donkey and Particle last week. Big fun! Looking forward for a Particle repeat in June... Upcoming show possibilities include the Codetalkers, Derek Trucks, Jonny Lang, Ani Defranco, Victor Wooten and Trey... Life is good....
Just got back from Norfolk, last night. No Dave Grohl, not even the Eagles of Death Metal, we got Throw Rag instead. If anyone tells you, "dude you gotta check out this band Throw Rag. They f*cking rock," Don't believe them. Queens of the Stone Age did f*cking rock though. Great show for thier part, nice crowd there too. The Norva is a pretty sweet venue, and I give Norfolk props for it's downtown scene.
Got Galactic coming up in a few days and Gov't Mule on the 13th of next month.......Pretty excited about that. I work with some people that do security for the Tennessee Theatre, they are going to get "The Deepest End" CD/DVD aotographed for me! SWEET!
I just saw Widespread last night in Philly. It was my first time seeing them. Overall I'd have to say that I wasn't too very impressed. There were some really good jams that got the crowd movin'. First set was pretty dull, but the second set was vastly superior to the first. I wish they would have just skipped the first and gone right to the second. Maybe it wasn't a good night for them, I dunno. It's hard for me to tell, since this was my first time.
Saw Aesop Rock and Mr. Lif (the latter is performing at 'Roo w/ the Perceptionists) in Chicago about two weeks ago and the show blew me away. I've just recently gotten into Aesop Rock and he is an incredibly unique artist, who IMO is really stretching the boundary of what hip-hop music can/should be. The show was easily one of the two best hip-hop shows I've seen (along with a Lyrics Born show last year). Although I've enjoyed many (but not all) of the other dozen or so hip-hop shows I've seen, LB and AR are the only two that I would consider completely successful representations of the music I know and love on record. Both manage to get the some of the best elements of their recorded work across live, while adding new elements to the live performance that more than compensate for the aspects of recorded hip-hop that are impossible to translate to a live performance.
Mr. Lif was on stage with Aes all night and completely held his own, and I can't think of many other MC's that could pull that off. Although I would be slightly more excited if Aesop Rock were playing 'Roo (he may seem/be a bit too hard/cynical/abrasive for the 'Roo crowd), the Perceptionists with Lif are definitely at the top of my must see list.

I saw Muse and Razorlight last week at UNC-C. To be sponsered by mtvU, it was pretty good. I have seen Muse twice b4 but only for radio/festival shows that were only like 30 mins. It was good to see them in a headlining show. Too much was played off the newest disc. Needed more Origin. But it was still fun. Going to see the Shins next weekend in Asheville.
Just got back from the Shins, in Philly. Good show. They played thier songs really fast, tempo wise. Quite a few new songs, but mostly stuff from Chutes. It was a packed house at the Electric Factory. I got Mars Volta, same place, on Sun. ;D
I saw Hydra in Covington last week. Mickey Hart was in his high-energy usual form (and he didn't try to rap during Fire on the Mountain!). Particle (the rest of the guys in Hydra) continues to amaze me. Only 9 songs in a 2.5 hour set....

Saw Trey here in Richmond Tuesday night from the second row - ;D
The band was really having fun; but they anything but tight - still trying to find their way. It was interesting - at times, I felt like I was stuck in "Space" at a Dead show, at other times I felt like I had been transported back to a buddy's garage band jam in the late 70's. Drummer was impecable; actually they are all great musicians.
Hoping to catch the Govt Mule, MMW, Robert Randolph and the Family Band, Xavier Rudd show in Hunter Ny on 6/04. Unfurtunately I'm moving that weekend. Hopefully somebody else around here can make it and bring us back the good word.
So all of the people going to see Mars Volta at Bonnaroo, better be prepared to get your @sses kicked.....through your ears. Just saw em in Philly, and thier new songs are just out-friggin-standing live. They played alot off of De-loused, but I think they played nearly every song from the new one. I'll take the new songs anyday. 2 and a half hours straight, a couple songs were over 30 mins. You guys are really lucky that they're playing late night and for 3+ hours. The lights were pretty amazing as well. Very hypnotic, all around. I can't hear a d@mn thing. Oh and I think I might have seen Dave Grohl there. It was him or his twin. I walked right by him, and thought, that couldn't have been. Then I heard 2 girls in front of me asking each other if they saw him. (shrugs shoulders)
I just caught The New Pornographers last night at our local crappy club in Lancaster. Very very solid. AC Newman is a soon-to-be-realized genius of catchy pop tunes that make you bounce back and forth. They played some songs off thier new album. Can't wait till that one drops. I really think there are some big things in store for this group in the next few years. Good stuff all around.
Caught moe. up at the State Theater a couple weekends ago....sick, SICK show!!!! Can't wait to see them again (this was my show in place of bonnaroo this year).
Last weekend saw Tom Petty and the Black Crowes in Mansfield. The Crowes were excellent (as always) but Petty just didn't hit me the right way. Everyone else thought it was great but I felt like I could've just been at home listening to his greatest hits CD and gotten the same feeling. Oh well...the 6 hours tailgate beforehand was amazing
I had a good weekend. Went and saw Kings of Leon at the E. Factory in Philly on Sat. night. Secret Machines were supposed to open up for em, but I guess there was a family tragedy in the band and they weren't there. So we got Pepper's Ghost instead. Lucky us They were terrible. KOL was really solid. Then I caught Coldplay last night in Camden. They sounded great, and their light show is pretty niffty. But they only played like a little over an hour and a half. I thought that was pretty lame. For that reason alone(along with many others), they'll never be as good as Radiohead. All in all it was a good time though. Can't complain. Last weekend got my floor seat for the NIN and QOTSA tour. November can't come soon enough.

Recently went to the Bele Chere festival in Asheville, NC. Great time! Got to see the Dirty Dozen Brass Band, Blueground Undergrass and the Drive By Truckers (all for free!). They close off the whole downtown area and throw a great street party...
I caught Coldplay last night in Camden. They sounded great, and their light show is pretty niffty. But they only played like a little over an hour and a half. I thought that was pretty lame. For that reason alone(along with many others), they'll never be as good as Radiohead. All in all it was a good time though. Can't complain. Last weekend got my floor seat for the NIN and QOTSA tour. November can't come soon enough.
Who opened for Coldplay? I have tickets to see them at MSG in Sept and they have Rilo Kiley opening up for them. I actually want to see how they sound. Any band that plays Roo is probably worth checking out. As far the length of the set, I caught Radiohead during their last tour and the just played a litter under two hours. I think thats the standard for most larger indie bands from what I have seen.
Yeah, I thought it was gonna be Rilo Kiley as well, but we got Black Mountain. They weren't bad, but I wasn't really paying attention. As for the length of the Coldplay shows, it was definately alot shorter than when I saw Radiohead. They played for a solid 2 hours. Pearl Jam was the same way. Coldplay was like a little over an hour and then a 3 song encore. They also didn't play much from the first album. I think Yellow was it . It was a good show, but I wouldn't drop 40 bucks to see em again. IMHO
I'm supposed to be volunteering for Oxfam (ya know, Make Trade Fair) at the Coldplay show up at Alpine Valley. The Black Moutain album is great and I'm really looking forward to at least hearing them from a distance. That said, I'm sure we'll be in a corner somewhere and kept pretty busy, so I question how much of them (or Coldplay) I'll really be able to focus on.
Just caught Beck last night, in Camden, NJ. What a frickin adventure that was. We got seriously douched with rain yeasterday, like 4-5 inches. And just trying to get into a parking lot was a chore. I had to go down 3 different streets, before I found one to take me to the waterfront that wasn't covered by 3 feet of standing water. Kinda scary. Just glad my car didn't stall out. But the show was amazing. God, does Beck know how to put on a party or what? He played songs off of every album, even One Foot in the Grave. I think he played all but 2 or 3 songs off of Guero, which are all AMAZING live. Oh I was in the Pit too, forgot to mention that. What else is there to say? Beck IS the man. I'll go see him anytime. He doesn't dissapoint. The Vegoose show will be a sight to behold.
In the last 3 weeks I've seen Perpetual Groove and My Morning Jacket. Groove was incredible, it was Brock's birthday so they played till 2 am it was incredible! Jacket was just as good, didn't play as long but still a great show.
Then heading up to Coventry for a weekend of good vibes and good music
