I also saw Beck, but at Hammerstein in NYC. The show was amazing and I had one of the best spots in the house standing all the way up front...no tall ppl in my way..nothing but a perfect view of Beck and his wacky band. He played an hour and a half and went through the entire guntlet of albums.He opened with Black Tamborine , which had this awsome drum jam session at the end. I loved the acoustic set especailly. He did a couple songs off of Sea Changes and Mutations during that set, but he also did an acoustic version of Debra..which was awsome. The band was sitting at the table hitting plates and glasses with their fork and knives...its something you have to see with your eyes than being explained.He closed with E-Pro and Get Real Paid. He played about 7 songs total off of Guero..which I wanted more, but I can't complain..I finally got to see Beck for the first time.
Yeah we got black tamborine as the 2nd song. Loser was the opener. The whole glass and plate jam was probably one of the coolest things I've ever seen live. That was during Clap Hands, wasn't it(LIGuy)? I have a hard time remembering what was what, at shows, for various reasons that I won't get into at this juncture Beck......I love that guy(in a purely non-homosexual way, not that there's anything wrong with that). LIGuy, did you get the crazy one man metal band, as the opener? That guy cracked me up.
So last night I saw My Morning Jacket at our local jaunt in Lancaster, Pa. They were REALLY good. I didn't get to see them at B-roo, but I heard them from my campsite. I got to see them good this time. Chameleon Club is such a great place to see shows, cause you canget right up front everytime. I really liked MMJ's new songs. Don't have the Z yet, but I will soon enough. The opening act was Kathleen Edwards. She was very good as well. She's like a younger, hotter, more rockin, Canadian, Sheryl Crow. Good show for 15 beans.
Danbird, Clap Hands was indeed part of the acoustic set..he also did another song that involved the plates and glasses before. He did a short version of "Do You Realize?" by the Flamming Lips and his bands stomped and clapped in the background as Beck played the guitar to "No Body's Fault But My Own" There was the little jam he did in the middle of the acoustic set where he called his band on the cell to come over to "make a song" it was short but fun.
As far the opener, McRorie was the opener for my show. He was a big corn ball, but amusing at the same time..he did a few hip hop covers like Baby Got Back and that song by Grand Master Flash I believe..its the rap song used in T"he Wedding Singer" where the old lady raps. Anyways, he was ok. After the show me and my girlfriend went to the diner around the corner and on our way out she said look who's here..and it was McRorie sitting at the table. Maybe if I waited another 30 min Beck would have showed up.
Saw Nine Inch Nails w/ Queens on Sat. night. What a show!!! Never seen NIN before, so I was blown away, figuratively and literally. My ears have just gotten back to normal today. They have definately put themselves in my top 5 of live shows I've seen, second only to Radiohead and Phish, IMO. The lights were crazy, and so was everything else. My list, of bands that I must see before I die, is growing ever smaller. I guess that's a good thing.
I saw Dar Williams a week or so ago. Great show I love how she talks to the people and shares stuff about the song. her opening act was Girlyman, freaking awesome. I enjoyed the set so much I bought the CDs. Good times. I'd love to see both acts at Roo.

I got a chance to see String Cheese about a month ago. I really love those guys, but it was not a good night for them, their sound and acoustics where way off, or maybe it was just an attempt into some new trance/ambient music ?? But yes indeed it turned out to be a pretty good party. I saw Nickel Creek about a week ago. I must say their sound was clean and the acoustics were good, those cats can jam however not quite the party scene, nevertheless one really excellent show! Perhaps it’s was each band’s appreciation of the audience (String Cheese’s no involvement contrasted by Nickel Creek true concern for the audience) that peeked my likes or dislikes between String Cheese and Nickel Creek. Either way it was nice to get out and listen to some live music!
I saw Iron & Wine with Calexico, last Sat. It was a really good show. I would have liked to have a seat but we can't have everything all the time now, can we. Calexico did a set, then Iron & Wine, then Calexico came out and played some songs with them, towards the end. I couldn't believe how good Sam Beam's voice is live. It's perfect. Anyone going to see Robert Randolph and Soulive? That'll be my next one, methinks.
I just saw a couple of great shows. I saw Lucero in Louisville the day after I saw Coheed & Cambria in Cincy. Both mind blowing shows. However the event staff at Bogarts were complete jerks. Also even though it was about 2 months ago, I saw Nickel Creek at UK. If you like them you have to see them here. They always play at least 2 encores and the last one the unplug all their instruments and have everyone come up and sit on stage with them. I've got a whole list of other shows in the past 2 months but I'll spare everyone.
I just saw moe. in Syracuse NY last week. I had seen them twice before at Bonnaroo but this was my first full two set show. After moe.'s set at 'roo '04 and listening to some shows I kinda got tired of them and haven't really listened to them for a year but this show made me a believer again. On paper the set doesn't look all that good but the playing was unbelievable. The venue and the crowd were both awesome too. moe. is touring right now so you should check them out if they come near you.
I saw Yonder Mountain String Band last night in Austin! They were so tight and and focused; four of the best musicians in music today (especially Adam Ajiala). Austin local Billy Bright was on mandolin for most of the first set and the encore. Their new songs are really great. They opened with the (Bonnaroo Anthem) "Sideshow Blues" and for the next 3 hours they tore it up. Jeff was bad-mouthing Houston part of the night so that is always a plus!
Just saw Raq play in Syracuse on Saturday night. Didn't end up staying for the entire show but that was because my ride had to leave. These guys played at 'Roo in 2003 but I didn't catch them. Really good band, def. worth checking out if they come near you.
Anyone catching Umphrey's at the Nokiea Theater in NYC on Friday? I'll be there, can't wait to watch the boys rip it up in the city. This tour has been absolute fire so far.

Last saterday night I watched BLACK REBEL MOTORCYCLE CLUB rip up the stage for a 2.5 hour show, very happy about this one. Great stuff. Would love to see a late night set at the roo with these guys. They just stink of sex, drugs and rock n roll.
Saw Umphrey's play the Nokia Theater in NYC on Friday. Absolutely blazing show. These guys are on fire right now. I enjoyed it so much that my buddy and I took off for NJ the next day and caught them again last night. I didn't think they could possibly play another show as good as the NYC one but they killed it again. My 8th time seeing them and they get better every single time I see them. I couldn't have written better setlists myself than the ones they played the past two nights. The second night was at the Starland Ballroom in Sayerville NJ which turned out to be a great venue. The Disco Biscuits are doing a 3 night run there next weekend if anyone in the area is interested in checking them out before 'roo.

Im looking forward to seeing some Bisco shows in april which is my b-day month, probably the Burlington VT run... Might also catch ratdog and i think particle w/ pnuma trio as well in boston during april...
I'm interested to hear how Particle sounds now since they got rid of their guitarist. I've never really gotten into them but I always enjoy the parts of their shows that I catch.
I was at the Black Rebel Motorcycle Show last weekend in Columbus, and I'll agree with melikecheese that they were pretty fantastic. The crowd was terrible, but they were totally chill and played their asses off -- don't miss them if you've got the chance!
I'm going to the Ragga Muffin Festival in SF on Sat. Michael Franti & Spearhead, Matisyahu, The Wailers, and many others are playing it should be a good time with some chill people. One Love
Going to see Perpetual Groove on the 3rd here in Knoxville, they are my favorite current band. I am partial to original music, they have plenty of that, but you have to hear their cover of Talking Heads "This Must Be The Place" It is incredible. They opened with it for their New Years Eve show.
That sounds awesome samhall. I'm heading up to Potsdam NY on Friday so see Medeski, Martin and Wood. I've seen them a couple other times but Friday is a rare acoustic show by them. Should be an awesome time at a small intimate venue.

I saw an amazing Galactic show at the Fillmore in Denver this past weekend. Rebirth Brass Band opened and they are amazing, see them if you haven't. Galactic brought out Leo Nocentelli of the Meters, Bo Dollis and the Wild Magnolias, and an amazing jazz singer, but i cannot recall her name. Amazing early mardi gras show. Best Galactic show ive ever seen.
I picked up a ticket to see Jason Molina (Magnolia Electric Co, Songs:Ohia) this coming Monday at Schuba's here in Chicago. He has had a Monday residency the whole month of February and this will be the last night.

Last night I saw THE BLACK KEYS play at the Newport in columbus, OH. They are playing 3 shows in Ohio this month. Good show! They had a lot of energy. They played 2 new songs and mentioned they were working on a new album. Dan introduced Patrick on the drums about 3 times.
I must say this has been a great week for me. I saw Sigur Ros last Friday (mind-blowing). N. Mississippi Allstars on Wednesday (amazingly rocking especially the electric washboard), and I just got back from NIN tonight (life-changing). Short of Bonnaroo I don't think I've ever seen so much kick arse music in the same week.

Yea puregrrr I saw the Sigur Ros show which was just a beautiful event. I saw Coldplay for the second time on thursday.....it was good but It was better seeing them outside this past summer. And I also saw NIN last night. Unfortunantly the cops got me for underage drinking so I missed about half of the show but I got back in for the second half and it was probaly the most amazing show I have ever seen.
