I was out of town when they came through Atlanta with Black Bananas, which pissed me off because it was the only time they made it to town all 3 years that I lived there.
It's coming back to me. My head sounded like a seashell on Wednesday. God they are so on point though. I love the new record too. Not many bands come back making relevant music, let alone still making great music like their last three have been.
Haha for REAL. Jenna turned to me after Shearwater ended and said something like "I don't think I've ever seen so many earplugs at a show." It was hilariously foreboding.

I saw Dinosaur Jr. at the Variety Playhouse a couple years ago and didn't find it all the loud. I was little disappointed by the volume, but they were fantastic. That speaker/amp stack in your pic looks the same and the venue is the same. I guess they just stepped it up, huh?
Godspeed You! Black Emperor at Tipitina's last night. ooof. A+++++ would see again! I am still incapable of comprehending how much work went into the production of the visual effects they had going with those 4 reels that this guy was constantly feeding film strips into. I picked up the new vinyl for $20. Running on fumes at work today.
Blew it on seeing Dinosaur Jr. Wednesday night at Tipitina's. I'll catch em next tour. That opending band is some serious cuties, WOW.
Also saw Godspeed You! Black Emperor at Tipitina's last night!! G String Orchestra opened, excellent NOLA gypsy trainkid band. The quality of that show was f'n unreal. I met the promoter who booked that show at Pretty Lights at Bayfest Friday and he was telling me at Tips last night that to have GYBE booked you have to get an Analog Mixer for the SBD etc.
Also scored their new album. They are called "God's Pee" on the album.
Jay-Z's final show at Barclays was insanely fun. I thought the place was going to riot when Beyonce showed up.
Agreed. The new arena isn't anything special but the show was great. Hopefully someone copied the webcast so i can watch it again. The 8 tracks being released on itunes will just be a huge tease.
Buke and Gase were fucking amazing tonight. They played a crappy little hole in the wall Bar/Venue tonight but I'd bet real money the next time they come around they will be playing one of the larger venues in town. I highly recommend you check them out if they're coming to your town. They really are that good.
Last night, we went to Sleigh Bells at the Workplay Soundstage and The Hold Steady at Bottletree. Workplay holds about 600 and I would estimate there were around150-200 people there. I was very surprised. They even ran a buy one get one free ticket special for the event. As for the actual show, it was Sleigh Bells. If you have seen them before, you know the show. It was the first time I had seen them with the 2nd guitarist. I felt bad they were playing to such a small crowd in a big room.
The Hold Steady was awesome as usual. Bottletree holds about 300 and I would say there were close to 200 there. This was my first time seeing THS without a keyboardist. The sound was a little empty during some songs because of this, but it was still a great time. Craig came out after the show and talked with us for a little while. Super nice guy. All in all, a great night of music here in Birmingham.
Saw THE MELVINS w/ Tweakbird in Athens @ The 40Watt Saturday night......great show! Read for round two in Pensacola tonight
i was there. great show. i had never heard tweak bird before, they were awesome. melvins were great. after this show i walked down the street to ga theatre and saw killer mike and gza. the gza show was embarrassingly bad. mostly because of the lame ass crowd. you could tell gza wasn't feeling it at all and he half assed it and took shots at the crowd all night. i reached my tipping point when he started playing songs from 36 chambers and people still didn't know the lyrics and i left early. i guess all the uga kids were there for killer mike, because they were way more into his show.

I saw GY!BE Sunday night and Flying Lotus last night. Both were absolutely great. I can't forsee an end to my ears ringing. Who needs cilia in their cochleas anyways?

GZA definitely reacts to the energy in the room. I've seem him totally check out when the crowd sucks, and I've seen him kill it when the crowd is enthusiastic. I have mixed feelings about that. It must be hard to perform for a crowd that isn't giving you anything back, but he isn't going to get the crossed arm section engaged by needling them and acting like he doesn't want to be there.
I'll still see him at Moog, because a late night festival crowd will probably be into it.
