Reel Big Fish on Weds was a fun, but Aaron didn't seem to want to be there. Probably won't see them again unless they share the bill with another headliner again. Their opener, The Pilfers, on the other hand, are amazing. A reggae/hardcore sound. They currently have no online presence, but that should change within a few months. Dan P was also a good time, acoustic singer-songwriter who writes a song 10 minutes before every show he does.
Roomrunner (like a more poppy METZ) and Ex-Cult (Black Flag meets Sonics) proved awesome openers for Ty Segall last night, and Ty was spot on. It was a little bit hard to enjoy the show, however, with this guy continuing to push me to the side of the stage because he felt entitle to be at the front despite not waiting there for the openers. He knocked into everybody at the front, lifted his girlfriend onstage so she could sit, kicking me in process, and possibly mistaking my ass for hers before that. I guess I'll have to stand in the back in the future or grow a pair of balls and tell whoever pulls that next to cut the shit.
(1) Damon Albarn (2) Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds (3) King Khan & His Shrines (4) Ty Segall (5) Ms Lauryn Hill (6) Darkside (7) Kanye (8) Janelle Monae (9) Goat (10) Meshuggah.
the residents were incredible last nite in austin! it was my first time seeing them, and i was pleasantly surprised with the entire show. great venue as well...scottish rite theater...some old masons building

Spirit Family Reunion last night at a bar/restaurant. Such a quality sound. They've played Mountain Jam and were at Newport Folk Fest last year. If they played Roo I don't know if they'd be an early Thursday set or a cafe (probably cafe) but they are definitely a fun band to watch.
The Widespread Panic Dominican Republic run was f'n awesome! 4 nights of facemelting on the beach.
Saw ZPZ when I got back, front row center in Pensacola. Very average for a Dweezil show but it had some great highlights, namely Moggio, The Evil Prince, Strictly Genteel, Packard Goose, Let's Make The Water Turn Black....

Sold-out Lumineers show in Pittsburgh last night was much better than I expected. Rowdy, engaging, energetic, big sing-along. The band seemed overwhelmed by and appreciative of the crowd's response to all of their songs last night, not just the hits. I liked their covers too: The Band's The Weight and Dylan's Subterranean Homesick Blues.

I saw Jeff Mangum for the second time last night. I somehow was able to score front row seats, and even got to watch the encore up against the stage. My girlfriend also got his water bottle form the show (super creepy). His haird/beard combo is just out of control at this point
I saw Jeff Mangum last night and the two guys next to me also asked for his water bottle and tried to give the security guy 2 dollars for "his services" but yeah when did he become Forrest Gump?

I saw The xx tonight and was completely blown away. They exceeded my highest expectations. Every song sounded better live than the album, and their light show was the best I've ever seen in a smaller venue. I don't want to imply that it was one of my favorite shows ever necessarily, but it was pretty much a flawless show. The show sold out like a month in advance (I heard tickets were going for $120 on Stub Hub), so it was packed. Definitely check them out if you get the chance. One of my main reasons for going tonight was so I could eliminate a potential future conflict at Roo (that way I can see a band I haven't seen that is playing at the same time as The xx), but now I really want to see them again, so I'm hoping there's nothing I'm dying to see at the same time as them. They definitely need to be at night too, no exceptions. I will say though, that I'm not sure if it will be more/less enjoyable in a festival setting as opposed to a club.

I saw Ty Segall last night. My body is absolutely destroyed, my ears are still slightly ringing, and I've taken two naps today. It was easily the best show of 2013 for me so far.
Saw Punch Brothers last night - I knew they loved Radiohead and expected Kid A, but not 2+2=5. It was a very energetic, great show. Anais Mitchell was nice but it put me to sleep.

Yo La Tengo this week. Two sets, the first being all sit down acoustic. The second set rocked the quack out!!! Top notch show.
Also two Lotus shows last week that totally blew my mind!
Yo La setlist:
Acoustic: Ohm Double Dare Is That Enough I'm On My Way The Point of It Cornelia and Jane I'll Be Around Move to California (Times New Viking cover) Big Day Coming
Electric: Stupid Things The Story Of Jazz Let's Save Tony Orlando's House Paddle Forward Beanbag Chair Before We Run Ohm Nothing To Hide Tom Courtenay Pass the Hatchet, I Think I'm Goodkind
Encore: Sugarcube Drugq!!! Train (The Cramps cover) (with Times New Viking)!!! God's Children (The Kinks cover) By The Time It Gets Dark
We're all a mess of paradoxes. Believing in things we know can't be true. We walk around carrying feelings too complicated and contradictory to express. But when it all becomes too big, and words aren't enough to help get it all out, there's always music.
Bosnian Rainbows and Marriages last night in Asheville.
Both bands were great, Marriages might be the best opener for a concert I've seen since Death From Above 1979 back in 05. Great tones and mix, it really was a spectacular show... if you're into darker, slower, heavier post rock-ish type stuff, definitely give these guys (and gorgeous gal) a shot.
Bosnian Rainbows was as good as I expected, and the positive reviews I've been reading were accurate. I think the set was just a little longer than an hour... the energy level was sky high, the vibe in the crowd was great (much, much cooler crowd than any time I've seen Omar and Co. in the past), the mix was really good like Marriages, and it really felt like an intimate ordeal. Terri was a little less wild acting here than I had seen her in youtube clips, but that's fine by me; her singing was spot on and her timing was much better than in some of the clips. At one point during the show, she took someone's iPhone that was near me and started taking video from the stage... that will be interesting to see if it ends up on Youtube. Omar was having a ball up there, wasn't still for hardly any time at all. He also had some really killer solos here and there. Deantoni Parks was his usual solid self, pulling double duty on keys and a small kit. The other hombre I don't know did a good job carrying the synth melody.
After the show, Omar and Terri came up to the front of the stage and I got to meet them both and exchange a few words. Omar seemed really humble and happy to be doing this thing, and Terri was very gracious as well. That was a great, great moment... nothing like that would have happened at a Volta show, too many dipwads in the crowd that would probably bring a stack of vinyl to the show in hopes of having it signed, or something stupid.
Plus, Asheville is still the shit. Downtown Inn is still the drizzling shits in service. And I have every intention of going back as many times as I can.

Saw band of skulls last September. Awesome show, they were really into it, and there was basically no crowd. I can't believe this band is as little known as they are, everyone seems to know their music, but when you mention the band they have no idea who you'retalking about.
Caught Imagine Dragons at Roseland Ballroom Saturday night.
Atlas Genius opened and even though I like "Trojans", nothing from their set really captured my attention.
Imagine Dragons put on a good show, they were extremely inspired by their recent rise in fame and certainly played with the energy to match it. I don't really love them musically, so I was happy to enjoy the live version of some of their songs. Obviously their singles brought about the loudest sing a longs, but all in all, I was thoroughly impressed with the crowd.
Unknown Mortal Orchestra and Foxygen played here last week and it was a pretty good show, (especially Foxygen). Read more and see the pictures here: link

I haven't been around much but wanted to drop in to tell you guys about Moon Hooch
I saw them open for lotus last week and they blew my mind 2 dudes on saxophone and a drummer. One of the saxophonists switches to some other unidentified brass instruments. They play jamtronica music, but with no electronics. Tons of energy. Mind= BLOWN Best new band I've discovered in quite some time

Edit: I just realized they are opening for They Might be Giants in nola on March 8th. Unfortunately that conflicts with Primus & FlyLo @ Buku fest. oh well...next time.

Lotus was great, but tbh in my opinion it was anti climactic seeing them immediately after moon hooch. That's how good moon hooch was
Had a an absolute blast at Sister Sparrow and the Dirty Birds Saturday night at Bowery Ballroom, NYC.
Yo Mama's Big Fat Booty Band opened and started the night properly, bringing the funk. Sister Sparrow and her boys followed with a two hour set of non stop funk, blues, and soul, keeping the crowd dancing the entire night. Arleigh (sister sparrow) has a mesmerizing stage presence and what once was a little crush has now evolved into full blown love. Even when shes not singing, you cant take your eyes off her. They ended the show with a an awesome cover of Roadhouse Blues. And it was just a phenomenal show all around.
I saw Chelsea Light Moving last night in Charlottesville. It was at The Southern (an odd choice of venues for that band as it's mostly used for Americana/Folk shows) but it was absolutely perfect. The fact that it was a Monday night and the "great blizzard fear of 2013" kept most people in. Cville was a ghost town.
What they missed was one of the best punk shows that I've seen,at least in the past 10 years. Life changing? No. Life affirming? 100%. It was good to see all them smiling and joking and having fun. Something I haven't seen from any of them do (in various other bands) in a long long time.

HOly sweet Jesus Mother of Gods GO SEE THE EELS!!!! If they are coming to your town GO GO GO! Just got back and they were abso-quacking-lutely amazeballs! Man what a show! AND I ran into MOLLY FUKING HARVEY(!!!) the one time co-lead singer of this band called The Residents (don't know if I ever told y'all about them...) that I worship!
The show was SO quacking awesome! SP/ACE get these guys please PLEASE! We couldn't figure out if there was suppose to be any opening acts. Nothing was listed on the EELS official site, and nothing on the tickets. We get there and the Marque said
"Mr. Puddles Pity Party The Eels Nicole Adkins"
Standing in line at the merch table this GIANT clown dressed in white (like this dude was easily 6.7+) was meandering around the lobby getting his picture taken with various kids and a group of 4 Afro-american midgets (I did NOT Hallucinate this, it actually quacking happened). And then this chick in a plaid school girl skirt and monkey mask came bounding out with a 22oz bottle of Heineken and proceeded to knock over a bunch of shiz on and around the merch table. THIS WAS A SOLID 10 MINUTES BEFORE ANYONE STARTED PLAYING!
Nicole Adkins was great. Just her and her electric guitar. She has an amazing voice and the songs along with her stage presence kept us captivated.
Then she finished and the giant clown was hanging out around the stage-right back stage entrance so I concluded "He must be Mr. Puddles and his Pity Party is coming up next. Awesome! How cool is that that he was wondering around the lobby setting the vibe. I bet his show is going to be pretty cool."
The pity party for puddles was just a ruse. The joke dawned on me and I got it. If your not familiar with EELS lyrics they can be some of the most depressing lyrics ever. Just brutal and beautifully expressed. Some of them are in fact perfect.
The EELS were on FIRE tonight! E played guitar, tambourine and maracas. He had a lead guitarist, rhythm guitarist, bassist and drummer backing him. The vast majority of the material they played was from the new album but they did some older classics as well.
The highlight of the evening was after the encore. The house lights went up, the house music came on and it appeared the roadies began tearing down the stage. About 3/4 of the audience had filed out when THEY CAME BACK ON STAGE, house lights still up, all props torn down, and ripped through 2 more songs just for the delight of us leftovers!
quacking FUKCING MAGICAL!
Also I'm kinda drunk so I hope this makes sense 2morrow!
AWOLNATION rocked my socks off last night! First time gettin' to see them in a club and they were great. The opener though almost stole the show. I highly recommend checkin' out Mother Mother!
Went at saw Boy at Schuba's last night. They put on a short show but were really great. Basically, they played the album and a couple of covers. They kept talking about coming back this summer so fingers crossed for a P4K show. If you're looking for a melodic an chill night see them. We really enjoyed the show.
So honored to finally get to see Eric Clapton. He told Rolling Stone in an interview that he is retiring in 2 years. So this may have been Nashville's last chance. God, what a guitar player.

Seen Luke Bryan with Thompson Square and Fl/Ga Line last night at John Paul Jones Arena...it was a good show, if you like country. I am pretty indifferent to it, but my girlfriend is a big fan. I found all the dancing that Luke did was a little weird, but all the women really got into it. Thompson Square was my favorite part of the whole night. When they played "If I didn't have you" they set up like a scene in a play. They played "I won't back down" by Tom Petty and "Carry On" by FUN, and pulled it off for the most part.
I was surprised to see the crowd it brought in. Sold out concert, and I didn't see a empty seat. I pretty sure for a concert JPJ holds at least 13K.
