Sadly, there was no Mirror in the Bathroom as The English beat did not actually play. I guess it was a joke. Savages, on the other hand, were no joke.
Were they not playing on one of the other levels? I was just joking around anyway.
I suppose they could have, but it didn't seem like anything else was happening. Speaking of the Center Stage complex, they have a ton of noteworthy shows coming up, including Mount Kimbie Friday. Savages were a last night minute add and I wouldn't have thought they would play at the Vinyl if they ever came to town. That venue is never on my radar. I figured it was lost to the dubstep crowd.
Saw the Colourist and The Naked and Famous on Tuesday night in Philadelphia. I had found out about The Colourist when their song "Little Games" was the free single on iTunes and ended up buying their EP. I was pleasantly surprised when I looked back at my The Naked and Famous ticket and saw that they were the openers. They definitely did not disappoint. The Naked and Famous really hit it out of the park from start to finish. I was really impressed at the production value of their show as it was moved to a different venue last minute. The vocals were great, the band rocked out, the lights were awesome, it was really well put together. Definitely exceeded my expectations. I believe they are doing some shows with Imagine Dragons as they finish up their Night Visions tour. That makes for an amazing night of music.
10/19/14-Phantogram

4/17/15-Hippo Campus, Night Riots, The Mowglis
5/1/15-Penn State Movin' On Music Festival-New Politics, Passion Pit, Big Gigantic, Big Sean
6/11/15-6/14/15-Bonnaroo!
6/21/15 - Paul McCartney
6/27/15-Halsey, Imagine Dragons
Wick-it and Supervision sucked. HeRobust and Griz were good.
And the show was ok I guess. I've seen him twice this year doing the DJ set and honestly the live band set sounded exactly the same.
abrakapokus said that Pretty Lights really hit his stride for the show on the back half of his set, and it became something much more different than his past DJ sets.
Saw Buddy Guy Saturday night. Looked great, sounds as good as ever but surprisingly he was telling the audience up front to shut the fuck up so he could tell his story. Not quite what I expected from a 77 year old

Deltron 3030 last night was easily one of the coolest shows I've seen in a while. The 16 piece orchestra absolutely KILLED IT, such a unique show. Also, the blonde haired woman playing first chair trombone was getting after it the entire show! I think she had a better handle on the lyrics than Del.
If you're seeing this show do not miss Kid Koalas opening set. Dude is a scratch master! 3 turntables, pedals, delays - all the goods.
Went and saw Augustines and Frightened Rabbit last week. DAMN good show. My third time seeing Augustines, and they delivered as always, but it was my first time getting to see Frightened Rabbit. They sure know how to bring their albums to life!! Glad I finally got to see them.
Saw Brian Wilson and Jeff Beck awhile ago. It was real solid and a joy to see Mr Wilson in the flesh. Beck was ok for the first few songs, but when he brought out Brian and the gang, it was fantastic. Highly recommend.

Neutral Milk Hotel was fantastic last night! They played every song off of Aeroplane with the exception of Communist Daughter. Their set was over an hour long and ended with an encore of Ghost > Untitled > Two-Headed Boy Part II and a beautiful version of Engine. The mood was ecstatic as you would expect.
What impressed me the most was the live instrumentation. So many horns, accordions, and musical saws! It was impressive that they got the album sound perfectly.
Saw Franz Ferdinand last night, and holy shit it was amazing! They've been at the top of my wish list of bands to see, for quite a few years, and I am so glad they lived up to my expectations.
I have a concrete top three shows, but I am having a very hard time not knocking one of those out in place of Franz. Their energy is unbelievable, and their twists on some of their songs were simply amazing. it was the last show of their tour, and they left it all out there, for almost 2 hours straight.
I saw Neko Case in Nashville on Wednesday...she always puts on a great show, even when she's sick. The between song banter w/her and Kelly Hogan was especially hysterical this time. At one point, Kelly was introducing the band and mentioned the guy who plays foot tambourine. Neko had been changing guitars and stopped to say, "Wait: did you just say pooty-tangery? What is that, like a boutique or something?" That snowballed into more equally cheeky commentary which was nearly as entertaining as the music. If you've ever seen Neko, you know she's normally chatty. This show was no different. I'm pretty sure Neko's spirit animal is the honey badger, 'cause she really doesn't give a sh!t about being a rock star - she just shows up sans ego and treats the audience like friends.
Tomorrow I'm seeing J. Roddy Walston & the Business (which will be a loud, sweaty good time!) and hopefully Salvador Dalí Parton as the opening act.
Saw Neutral Milk Hotel with The Circulatory System and Robert Schneider (The Apples In Stereo) at the 40 Watt last night. It was one of the greatest shows I have ever been to. The crowd was equally as amazing. This show was the third of their three night stand at the 40 Watt and was the show they did not sell online, so it was only Athens natives at this show. It was so surreal seeing those bands perform and seeing so, so, so many Athens artists and musicians in the crowd (noone from R.E.M. that I saw). I'll never forget this show as long as I live. \
Tonight I am seeing Andy Rourke (The Smiths) do a DJ set at this venue a couple of blocks from my house.

Saw Umphrey's McGee at Stage AE in Pittsburgh on Friday. Just an amazing collection of musicians and talent up there. Also the London Souls opened for them and I was really impressed. Three people, a garage blues rock sound, the guitarist was shredding it all set.
Phish wrapped up an amazing weekend with an epic show in Hartford last night. Seeing that arena packed made me really miss having an NHL team (not that the Whalers ever packed the house)
Next up? Gary Clark Jr. at the Royale in Boston

I usually try to give a bit of time before making such bold predictions... but I'm going to say it anyway:
Television last night was *the* show of the year for me. And I didn't think anything would top my previous #1. I can't even begin to think of where this would rank in my best shows of all time list, but this is new top 10 material for sure.
The setlist was basically a rearranged version of Marquee Moon, with three or four other songs and a sh*tload of crazy jamming mixed in to bring it up to a 2-hour set (12 songs over 2 hours... yep, sounds about right ). I was a little apprehensive at first since Richard Lloyd is no longer in the band, and the dueling guitars are such an integral part of Television - but they've got a new guy called Jimmy Rip, and boy oh boy, can Jimmy ever rip. Seriously, do not sleep on this if they're coming to your city (I see they have a few US dates coming up).
This was somehow their first (but I pray not only) tour of Australia, which helps explain why I was about 20-30 years younger than the average attendee. Tom Verlaine even called Sydney a "nice little town"... smartass!

Man Man f*ckin destroyed last night as always. Can't wait for round 2 tonight especially since they're joined by King Khan & the Shrines + Melt Bananna

You got to see OBN III's if your schedule will allow. They tore it down opening for Thee Oh Sees last night. Dude is Iggy Pop Jr.
Possibly. That's the only Thursday night show I'm really interested in seeing at FFF. My plan was to to do non-festival stuff in Austin on Thursday night, but they aren't scheduled to play until like 1:00am. I might be feeling it by then.

1:00am with OBN III's would be killer. Definitely do it.
