what are your top 10 shows this year? im sure there will be some new years shows that will make the list. but im bored and its close enough to the end of the year.
1. my best show was umph/bisco at roo. what a show. and insane light/glowstick show. they just ripped it up.
2. GRAB-All Good this was an amazing show. i missed the first part of them at roo for dr john. but i think this one was better anyways. they were both great. right from the start it was on fire. a 20+ minute who are you got things off to a good start. and dont forget the naked guy that ran up on stage to try and hug trey. trey looked like hed never seen a naked guy before. it was great.
3. Radiohead - roo i argued that they didnt belong. i was wrong. what an amazing show. i hope tey are back soon.
4. Deep Bananna Blackout - gathering of the vibes it was my first time seeing them and they put on one hell of a show. fuzz is a freak. ive never seen such a mad man on guitar. and the martin sexton appearance was great. he asked fuzz if he could do the solo and fuzz went to give him the guitar but martin just jumped behind him and did the reach around solo. it was great.
5. John Butler Trio - Blind Pig, Ann Arbor aside from being in one of the greatest citys on earth it was a killer show. it was very crowded. its a small place. and it was really hot. like i might passput hot. but it was worth it for sure. if you havent checked out john butler you should.
6. Black Crowes - All Giood i saw them at roo and it didnt tickle my pickle at all. but it was a day time show. at all good it was just an amazing rock show from start to finish. and jimmy herring coming out was great. i almost didnt head down because i was so turned off by the roo show. but i am glad i did. i am a fan now and cant wait to see them again.
7. Ekoostik Hookah - fall hookahville both nights were great. the first night with oak hurst was incredible though. the mix of blue grass and rock was just amazing. the weather sucked as ernesto was blowing through making it very cold and very wet. but it was well worht enduring.
8. Grace Potter and The Nocturnals - roo- i went in olny having heard a couple of songs and was completly blown away. i was definitly not expecting to see one of the best shows at roo that morning but i did.
9. Phil and Friends - Roo a great show. even though we listened to the end of it from camp due to rain it was still a great show. i have listened tot hat show so many times since roo.
10. Particle - Harvest Jam my first time seeing them and they did not disappoint. it was so very very cold and windy but the fire near the stage and the grewat music kept it tolerable. it seemed like they played forever. the incredible music coupled with the fire throwers throwing fountains of sparks 100 feet in all directions was amazing too.
im sure im forgetting someithing that should be in there. some honorable mentions are Rat Dog - gathering of the vibes- too bad the fierce thunderstorms came down for the whole show and caused a slightly early end. Rhythm Devils - GOTV that was a great show. i am sorry i missed them when they were around here in toledo. especially since jen for deep babnnana was at that show. dark star orchestra - Grateful Fest. these guys always put on a killer show. ivan nevilles dumpstaphunk they kicked ass at roo. glad to see they are at 10klf this year. cant wait.

My #1 would easily be My Morning Jacket's latenight at the roo. As much was going on at that time, it kept me coming back. I was equally torn between the Hiphop, Umph/Bisco, and Jacket as far as which show I would see the most of that Friday night. Ended up seeing 90% of MMJ and couldn't have been happier. Their ability to move a crowd is phenomenal. AWESOME original material put over the edge by the string of covers into the second half of the show. A real pantspooper !
Wow this is hard. It takes me alot of brain power to remember all the shows the past year. It's even harder to rank them. I'll give it a shot though.
1. (Tie) Radiohead and MMJ at Bonnaroo. Both unbelievable. Both unforgettable. 2. Radiohead at the Tower in Philly. I got uber close. I was completely sober and it didn't matter. 3. Secret Machines at the Arts Fest in B-More. A free show in the rain with a rainbow to make for the best light show I've ever seen. One of those moments that words don't do justice. 4. Flaming Lips at the free SoCo show in Philly. Best Lips show I've seen. Wayne was on fire. SOOOO much fun. 5. Tool at the Tweeter in Camden. Tool + Lazers=Amazing 6. The Who at the Virgin Fest. The crowd was so pumped for em. They did not disappoint AT ALL. 7. Wolfmother at the Virgin Fest. Wow. Wasn't expecting this one. 8. The Strokes in NYC. First night of the tour, first time seeing them. They can bring it. 9. Tenacious D at the Tweeter in Camden, just last week. The D are truly an entertaining experience. Funny and very talented. 10. Beirut at the Khyber in Philly. The place was PACKED to the brim with way too cool indie kids. Awesome show though. Sweaty and well worth the 10 bucks.
1) Umphrey's McGee - 12/2/06 -Great setlist and playing. Flawless show. 2)Umphrey's McGee - 2/17/06 - All around great show and great setlist. 3)Yonder Mountain String Band -8/11/06 - Amazing venue(Penn's Peak) and a great show 4)Conspirator - 12/1/06 - Amazing latenight show, took me by surprise. Great guest sit ins. 5)moe. - 9/1-9/3 -Saw a lot of great moe. this year but I'll just pick all 6 sets at moe.down because the playing was just great all weekend. Can't choose one show. 6)Disco Biscuits-11/1 - First non festival Biscuits set and it was great. Opened with Highwire which just made my night. 7)Umphrey's McGee-12/1/06 -Kicked off a great weekend. A lot of solid jamming. 8)Ween - All Good - Finally got to see these guys after trying for 4 years. They put on a great show. 9)Umphrey's McGee-2/18 - Great setlist and great playing. 10)moe. - 6/7 - This show gets this spot just because of the nasty McBain they threw down 2nd set.
Well thats my top ten. I gotta agree with dudewheresmyroo about the Crowes at All Good. Wasn't expecting much but I really enjoyed that show. I think it was the atmosphere and location. Marvin's Mountaintop is such a nice place to see a show. That would have been next on my list.

1. Radiohead (Bonnaroo) - Not only the best show of the year, but the best I have ever seen. 2. CSNY (Milwaukee) - I had seen CSN & Neil before but never all together. Nearly 4 hours and the best, a roaring 'Keep on Rockin in the Free World' was saved for last. 3. Red Hot Chili Peppers (w/ Mars Volta support, Minneapolis) - I am very surprised that this show ended up being this good. 4. Blackalicious (Bonnaroo) - Very fun show, Gift of Gab is the best rapper on the planet. 5. Bob Dylan/Foo Fighters acoustic (Madison, Halloween) - A true American Icon that still plays to his best and remains vital with new material. Foos were a good opener. 6. Nine Inch Nails (Summerfest) - Kept the kinda lame new material to a minumum and left my neck sore for a week. 7. Govt Mule (w/ Donovan Frankenreiter support, Madison) - 2 blistering, mad passionate sets 8. Dresden Dolls (Bonnaroo) The most publicly appropriate electricty that two people can produce. 9. SIMS/Mac Lethal/POS/TurboNemesis (Baltimore) - A rotating carnivale of Midwest hiphop on a small stage in the Charm City 10. Cypress Hill (Bonnaroo) - A great set, even better crowd, and a boring Beck left blown out of the water on the bigger stage.
Honorable mentions for Death Cab, Bright Eyes, Tom Petty, My Morning Jacket, Cappadonna, Mathematics, Mason Jennings, & Dirge.

was that the BRMC show at the newport? what a show! hope they make it to Roo.
That was the 2nd Newport show. I believe the first one was in 05 but they were only about 4 months apart. Both were amazing, they are a very good live band, though I have been a huge fan of them for some years so I have a bit of a Bias. I can never stop "dancing" when i see them, I just get in a trance, end up with my eyes closed most of the time cause they sound so good.
