Saw them on 11/1 in Ithaca, NY. Really great show. Killer confrontation>great abyss>confrontation. Also caught there latenight set at All Good this summer. Theres a good chance I'll be at both Starland shows.
On October 25, 2002 at the Trump Marina Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City, the Disco Biscuits invited their fans to “spin the setlist wheel.” Akin to the Elvis Costello “Spectacular Spinning Songbook,” the Biscuits allowed fans to spin the wheel, often in mid-jam, to determine the next song of the night. The wheel will return on Thursday, February 15th, at the Starland Ballroom, where the band pledges, “We are going to put all kinds of things up there … brand new compositions, tracks for the new album, new covers, Sammy songs, super rare old-school Biscuits’ bust outs, and a smattering of your favorite classics.” The group adds, “Don’t miss this special night, for once it is over, the new songs go back in the vault. Taping for this show will not be permitted, so you have to be there to hear it.” The Spinning Wheel night will be the first of three for the Biscuits at the Sayreville, NJ venue over that weekend.
sounds like a good time. wish it was closer. and i like the wheel.
Dam, that would kick ass, but that would violate my plan to work nonstop, and do nothing during the winter, so I can travel and go to fests all summer.
But Damn! a wheel of tunes, I can't believe I haven't seen someone do that before.
ya i am in that same boat. gotta work 16 hours a day, and more if there is snow to plow, just so i can take april through september off for fests. but id go to this if i wouldnt lose my job. i could take the cash hit but not the losing my job. i wish it was within 4 or 5 hous of me. but 11 or 12 is just too far. and id have to give up seeing umphreys 4 times in march with adrian belew. ending on st patty's day in south bend. im not quite prepared to give that up for this. but im sure its gonna be an amamzing show. i certainly hope a tape surfaces somewhere. maybe they will sell the soundboards. but i doubt it with the new stuff thats gonna be on there.
I'm with you dude. I'm not willing to give up 4 or 5 nights of Umphrey's in April. Otherwise I would be at these shows. They are about 4 hours from me but finding a place to stay and transportation to and from the venue is too much of a hassle and too much money to do alone. I couldn't find anybody to go with so I'm gonna hit Keller the next week with a couple of my buddies. The whole wheel thing sounds awesome though, especially if they are spinning it mid jam.
i was at the NYE show in camden and it was amazing dude. the biscuits set was just sick (burned a copy and listen to it in my car all the time), and then you went right outside the room where the stage was and whats normally the foyer, shpongle/prometheus/etc are still going for the new few hours...as are myself and a good portion of the rest of the crowd NYE show gets a huge thumbs up.
then i went to the "spin the wheel" starland ballroom show. my feelings on this show were very mixed. on the one hand (sorry but its necessary) F--K STARLAND BALLROOM! would you believe that myself along with as little as 50 people and as many as probably 200-250 missed the entire first set? wanna know why? the will-call line was the most mismanaged door entry system i've ever seen (people with tickets already got in at a mediocre clip). people were screaming at the security guards, started pushing to try and break through security. it was godawful, and i will never return to starland for that reason alone.
NOW then, once inside (it took a little while to get over missing the entire first set) it was a great show. i forget the exact set list but it was funny, because each time the wheel landed on a space, they'd take off the name of the song and replace it with another name. would you believe the wheel kept landing on the exact same space like 75% of the spins? so one song would come off, another go on, and come right back off next spin. otherwise, really good show.
next biscuits shows i'm going to: langerado (tix for the late night @ Revolutions too) 3/9 & 3/10 and snoe.down (3/23 & 3/24).
Maybe I'll throw myself to the dogs, but my back's not to the wall Maybe I'll lay some bricks for the man, but the days just aren't that long So if I settle back and chill will I see far enough to feel the angel's dream? I thought it was the Story of the World!
