My quick review...
I have yet to hear the whole Gnarls Barkley album, but after seeing them live it's time to give it a listen. The sound inside the GEC where I sat was a bit washy. It'd be great to hear them outside with the volume cranked.
The Chili Peppers played a good mix of their material, but no Under the Bridge... awww. Their stage light show was like nothing a have ever seen. I won't describe it because I don't think I can. Good video work and moving (yes, moving... part of the light/video show) projections screens provided a great view for those of us in the nose bleeds. After all the years, the dudes are still red hot.
I give both of these groups my stamp of approval for Bonnaroo 2007 and hope to see them there. If they're coming to a town near you I recommend checking them out.

I've seen the Chili Peppers at an outdoor festival and they are a great live band - lots of energy. It would not be one of my top choices, but I would be thrilled if they played Roo. As for Gnarls Barkley, I have only heard good things about their lives shows.
^^^I've had alot of fun at shows by myself. Of course it sucks afterwards, cause you don't have anybody to talk to about it.
The Chili Peppers definitely put on a good show. Saw em at V fest, this past summer and they were really good. Flea and Fruschante can still kick out the jams. I just wish I would've stayed there for longer, before going to see and abbreviated Lips set.
I was there as well - I wish the crowd would have been more into Gnarls. It felt like they were playing to an empty arena.
As far as RHCP goes, I really enjoyed it - their sound came out pretty well from where I was. I remember thinking, however, that I still don't think of them as a Bonnaroo band - just a little too "rehearsed," if that makes any sense. Shows how differently two people can see the same situation...

I agree with you concerning your Gnarls remarks. The crowd seemed to uptight to get into it. Bonnaroo would be a better venue for them for sure.
I disagree with you about the RHCP. I think you may be quick to assume that they're "just a little too rehearsed." With that statement, you aren't giving them much credit as musicians. Think about Bonnaroo performers of years past. While many of them are quite spontaneous during their shows, they're all rehearsed; some more than others. When the RHCP comes to a venue like Nashville to play for an audience they've got to make the music easy to digest for the crowd. Play some new stuff, play some old stuff, and a few little ditties in between. They played for about an hour and a half to an audience that was comprised mostly of casual fans (ie. the radio listening masses). See what I'm getting at? The masses aren't ready for 15 minute long jams; their musical attention span doesn't allow for it. Put the RHCP in front of a crowd like Bonnaroo's and I think your opinion might be different.

I see what you're getting at - I would want some assurance that they'd at least play a different show for Bonnaroo than they have on their tour. This tour they've played very similar setlists - they even open up with the exact same 5 songs every stop. To me that doesn't show the spontaneity that I hope to see in a lot of 'roo shows. But you're right, they may pull out a whole new bag of tricks if they played 'roo. It's all a hypothetical argument right now -
RHCP has to be one of my favorite bands ever. I have seen them twice and would love to see them headline this year at bonnaroo! I think they would make a great Friday night opener.
