The video wouldn't load properly for me, but I've got no doubts he's talented. I would imagine this would only further improve their sound, and I too hope they make a stop at Bonnaroo.

Omar said a few months ago that they would begin recording a new album in January 07 and begin to tour again in March/April.
I think they're a very strong possibility for Bonnaroo this year. They apparently enjoy working with Superfly (roo 05, goose 06), and from what I've heard they really enjoyed Bonnaroos atmosphere. TMV+Prigden+New Tunes would make my Roo.

What's the deal with the revolving drummers in TMV? Is Omar so domineering that they can't keep anyone on drums for more than a couple of months?
TMV was by far my favorite act of 05. I hope they can get their nuts together enough to go on tour again.
yeah omar is one of the biggest control freaks in music today, but he can certainly bust shit at guitar. i love tmv and would kill ot have them there this year

Agreed completely. Rubin was a savior for them, its almost like he kept a leash on them. Don't get me wrong, one of my favorite things to do is put Cassandra Gemini on the internet jukebox at the bar I drink at. Oddly, it 1 track . Occasionally their song are ruined because they feel the need to extend them. Theres nothing wrong with having 3 songs stretch 40 minutes, but fill the rest of the album with 4-7 minute songs.
Admittedly, Id rather see Omar doing the producing. He's only going to get better. If either Tom Waits, TMV, The Flaming Lips, or Primus play at Bonnaroo Im set, the rest is all icing on the cake.

I love Omar's musical vision, but he does seem like a control freak. I think alot of his attitude comes from spending so much time being controlled by Jim Ward's apparent veto power in ATDI. Omar has said in interviews that no matter what he wrote, Ward would insist on playing it the same old "proven" way in an effort to blandly pander to their established, secure fanbase. Sadly, the rest of the band just agreed. It's amazing that he and Cedric didn't leave sooner than they did. Watch some of their old interview clips and you'll see how much Jim steers the conversation...and how disgusted Omar and Cedric look. I liked ATDI, but they were very one-dimensional and starting to fizzle-out. What Omar has done with The Mars Volta is so much better than anything ATDI ever attempted, it's no wonder that his head has gotten a little big. I'm not a big fan of the whole perfectionist, "my way or the highway" mindset that some musicians get into but, If anyone has earned it....It's Omar. I probably wouldn't want to hang-out with him but, I love his music. Personaly, I dig his approach to writing and recording lengthy "epic" songs. TMV records are meant to be taken as a whole, not as individual songs...just one long piece of music. It's not very accessible or even user-friendly(at times), but it works incredibly well for me.It just adds to the unique experience that is The Mars Volta!

Well said, through and through. I agree completely.
I was very relieved to hear Omar/Cedric say that most of the material used for Amputechture had been stuff that was shelved reaching back as far as their ATDI days and that theyd be recording a new record with brand new material for '07. I enjoy Amp, but not like I did FTM and Deloused. It seems thrown together in alot of parts (See: the catastrophy that ruins Tetragrammaton about 4:30 in). Their motivation was great, get the material off the board completely, start new. I agree with the idea (lets call it fact) that TMV albums should be taken as a whole. That works easily if the album flows like FTM as a beautiful and emotional piece of music. In parts Amputechture shows what everybody acusses TMV for being, pretentious noodlers. Ill argue people to the death when they day that about FTM and Deloused, because there is no BS. It all works, and works beautifully. Amputechture makes me cringe in spots, but it still has tons of music in it that still reminds me why I love that band.
I love likening them to Zep when they hit the scene. People always say Im crazy for that, but it fits. Omar and Cedric were like Page when Zep started. "Wow its that dude from the Yardbirds. Is his guitar supposed to be making those f*cked up noises? Sounds badass". Not to mention the weird time signatures and explosive sound.
Thats enough for now. I seriously love this band long time. Hopefully Omar and Cedric dont find a Yoko. Aww, I cant bash on Yoko, I love John, John loved Yoko, Yoko hated Paul, I hate Paul, it kinda works. Lets say Courtney Love. Lets hope she doesnt get her meat hooks into Omar.
