I just got to work from Nashville and had to tell someone!! I was just wowed by a performance from the Philip Glass Ensemble, which included Philip Glass himself! The man just turned seventy years old and still plays like a mad man. I've been a fan of his music ever since I heard the soundtrack for Koyanniquatsi years ago. If you're a fan (or not) and have a chance to see them perform, I highly suggest you buy tickets if they're coming close to you, now even! Imagine seven people on stage, four of them behind synths, three playing various wind instruments, and some of the most mind bending, hypnotic, repetitive (but wonderful) music you'll ever hear... it was quite inspiring. I can vouch, they don't use any kind of arrpegiator. I can't begin to imagine the pain in the player's hands at the end of a performance. Just wow. This evening will not be soon forgotten. If you've never heard of Philip Glass, check out the glass engine. ..
Edit: I should also mention the vocalist... can't believe I didn't in my ranting. She had a beautiful voice which was supported by the synth she sat behind. Anyone familiar with Glass's work will know that there are some wild vocal parts that help accentuate certain pieces of his catalog. She really nailed it.
