Benjamin Curtis Leaves Secret Machines Remaining members commence work on LP3 The Secret Machines announced this weekend that guitarist and founding member Benjamin Curtis has left the band.
From thesecretmachines.infopop.cc:
Brandon Curtis says:
The Secret Machines I am writing to make a couple of announcements. First of all I want to let everybody know that The Secret Machines have begun work on our third album. We expect to begin recording sometime in the beginning of May. Unfortunately, I also must share that after 7 and 1/2 years of playing music together Benjamin has decided to no longer be a part of the band. It is a sad day but also an exciting one as he prepares to focus full time on his new creative venture, School of Seven Bells. He has told me that he expects to be finished with a new record very soon as well as there being plans in the works to play some shows here in New York debuting the band. Of course Josh and I wish him all the best.
New York-based quintet School of Seven Bells, features Benjamin Curtin alongside another set of siblings: sisters Claudia and Alejandra Deheza, formerly of On!Air!Library!.
At the present time it is unclear whether the remaining Machines will seek a replacement, Brandon and Josh have begun work on the third Secret Machines album, the follow-up to last year's Ten Silver Drops
This is crappy since I just started to get into these guys
"We've all been raised on television to believe that one day we'd all be millionaires, movie gods, and rock stars. But we wont, and we're slowly learning that fact & we're very, very pissed off......."
It's sad but it doesn't sound like the split was bitter especially since they're outright promoting his new group. But I guess this means we can definitively eliminate the Secret Machines as a possibility for Roo this year.

I am really sad about this. At this point it is no longer the Secret Machines, until I hear the album and am proved wrong anyway. I really love this band and was hoping for a few more albums...all I can say is thank god I took that road trip out to PA to see them play the in the round tour. Turned out to be the final tour as a threesome, what a way to go out guys! Good luck on the new album , prove me wrong please.
I'm glad I got to check them out at Top Cats in Cincy. I figured they'd blow up pretty big and get popular after seeing them. Too bad they're falling apart.

Most people struggle with the albums (i have no clue why, I don't think they are willing to put the time into the album, these are not "instant gratification" albums) but EVERYONE who sees them live i blown away. Its always been this way.
I am still hoping the band will continue on without Ben...and still be the Secret Machines.
