I read on jambase.com that RObert Randolph, Stephen Marley and damian Marley will be palying a free shwo tomorrow night at Emory. Does anybody know more about this? Im going to call Emory when I get out of school today to see if it's legit and will let yall know when I know.
This year's reggae-themed Dooley's Week will jumpstart with seasoned television star Jamie Kennedy on Monday and feature the sounds of Damien and Stephen Marley and Robert Randolph and the Family Band on Wednesday, Student Programming Council members announced Thursday.
The Spring Band Party and Dooley's Week concert will be combined on March 28 in a five-hour long concert on McDonough Field.
"We figured it was better to get one really good show," SPC President Greg Cohen said. "By having the Spring Band Party occur during Dooley's Week, we blend all of our resources. This way we bring two awesome bands on one day as opposed to bringing one day of great music and one day of less-known music."
Because SPC's budget is set to increase next year, Cohen said a combined band party-concert would probably be a one-time occurrence.
Sons of the famed Bob Marley, the Marley brothers will perform many of his works at the March 28 concert, Cohen said. Damien Marley is also known for his hit album "Welcome to Jamrock." He also won a Grammy for Best Reggae Album in 2001 for his earlier work. Stephen Marley's debut album "Traffic Jam" is set for release on March 20.
Robert Randolph and the Family Band continue concert's the reggae theme. They are best known for steel guitar work and have been playing the New York City circuit since 2000.
The concert will start around 6:30 on Wednesday and run until 11 p.m. Students must bring their student ID for admittance and may bring one guest. Food and beverages will be available.
College senior Badri Modi, who co-chairs the Dooley's Week programs along with College senior Heather Greenfield, said he was excited that the Spring Band Party would be a part of Dooley's Week this year.
"It just makes Dooley's Week that much more awesome, more memorable," he said. "I'm really excited about the bands we have - it unifies the theme so well."
Monday night's show with Jamie Kennedy probably won't follow the reggae theme but should still get Dooley's Week started on the right note, said SPC member Margo Aaron.
The stand-up comedian began appearing in movies and television shows more than 10 years ago and currently hosts his own, top-rated show "The Jamie Kennedy Experiment."
He's appeared in such films as Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back and Enemy of the State.
"We wanted to be able to come up with someone that the Emory community would recognize," she said. "He's really excited to do a college."
Kennedy's routine will kick off Dooley's Week on March 26.
Other events that week include a screening of Cool Runnings on McDonough Field on Tuesday and a speech from noted television personality Jerry Springer on Thursday.
The week will wrap up on Friday with the annual Dooley's Ball.

i jsut got back and the show killed. igot in for free on some student's guest pass. damian and stephen opened and played buffalo soldier, welcome to jamrock, could this be love and a few other songs. robert randolph opened with voodoo chile and he played the intro to gin and juice and it was so awesome. great show. i woulda payed forty for that if i had to
But I can take consolation that Robert Randolph is playing at Centennial before the National Championship game. Which I hope that I will be watching my Gators go for Two in a Row. This should be a very enjoyable weekend.
